Chapter 003: Not Much Time Left to Live!
Instantly, the whole crowd on site stood stunned!
All believed Julia Stewart and Julie Stewart came for the engagement feast!
However, the reality appeared far different!
From the current scene, Lady Stewart and Miss Stewart seemed drawn straight to this mountain youth!
Yet how could that even happen?
Stewarts on one end, mountain boy on the other.
No link between these sides at all, was there?
Lionel Yeager never imagined these two gorgeous women trailing right behind him!
“Beauty, you feeling better?”
Lionel questioned Julie.
Julie gave a soft smile, replying, “Mr. Yeager has made my health improve greatly.”
Vic Lewis stepped up, puzzled, and asked, “Lady Stewart, you know this boy?”
Julie nodded faintly, stating, “This gentleman saved me and counts as my friend.”
Anna Lewis approached too, giving a forced laugh, “Lady Stewart, sure you’re not confused? He just arrived from the mountains…”
Before Julie responded, Julia’s brows knit together.
“From the mountains? And that stops him from being our friend?”
She had spotted Lionel’s friction with the Lewises before, so no kindness toward them.
Anna rushed to clarify, “Miss Stewart, that’s not my point. With your status and Lady Stewart’s, how to befriend such lowly sorts?”
Julia’s face iced over, “Miss Lewis, who the Stewart family befriends is our business alone.”
At those words, Anna’s mouth hung open with no comeback.
Alma Lewis spoke sourly, “We’re only cautioning against shady folks. What’s that attitude?”
“Hmm?”
Julia turned her head gradually, glaring icily at Alma.
Vic Lewis jumped in fright and barked at Alma, “Quiet down!”
Alma looked wronged and protested, “Grandfather, I said nothing wrong!”
“Shut your mouth!”
Vic Lewis exploded in anger, landing a direct slap on Alma’s cheek.
Alma crumpled to the floor from the blow, crying out loudly.
Vic Lewis wiped sweat from his brow, smiling apologetically, “Miss Stewart, the young ones lack sense, please overlook it!”
No choice left.
Though the Lewis family held wealth, they paled against the Stewarts.
Offending the Stewarts meant no standing left for Lewises in River City.
“Miss Stewart, I’ve long admired you. I’m Dion Weil of the Weil Family!”
Right then, Dion Weil came forward with a bold grin, stretching out his hand toward Julia Stewart.
Julia Stewart was the fantasy of every rich young master in River City, Dion included.
“Are we that familiar?”
Julia’s gaze stayed frosty, showing zero interest in shaking.
Dion Weil grinned awkwardly while pulling back his hand, “Miss Stewart, I’ve sought a chance to meet you…”
Julia paid Dion Weil no mind, turning instead to Lionel with a warm smile, “Mr. Yeager, my aunt and I need a favor from you, if that’s fine?”
Julia’s smile left every man there speechless.
Hearts pounded wildly, breaths grew ragged, stirring memories of first crushes!
Lionel smiled back and nodded, “Naturally.”
“Perfect!”
Julia beamed happily, “Mr. Yeager, let’s step out to discuss!”
“Sure.”
Lionel nodded, ready to depart alongside Julia Stewart and Julie Stewart.
Yet prior to going, Lionel glanced plainly at Vic Lewis and warned, “Vic Lewis, remember this: prepare a coffin quickly, your days are numbered.”
“You brat, you…”
Anna started to snap, halted by Vic Lewis’s stern look.
He noted Julia and Julie fully supporting Lionel, unwilling to anger the Stewarts over him.
Still, Vic Lewis’s expression turned grim.
No one stays calm hearing that.
He figured Lionel Yeager just aimed to intimidate.
After all, his health felt solid, good for another decade at least.
What confused him most was the mountain newcomer’s ties to the Stewart family.
Dion Weil, meanwhile, burned with grudge, etching Lionel Yeager and Julia Stewart deep in memory.
Exiting the Lewis Family Villa.
Lionel inquired, “Could I ask you two lovely ladies, what assistance do you require from me?”
He held a favorable view of both of them.
They had brought him to the city earlier today and recently aided in humbling the Lewis family’s haughtiness.
Thus, he was ready to lend a hand.
Moreover, having newly arrived in River City, he lacked any acquaintances.
Hence, should he require aid in the future, he could turn to them.
Julia stated, “Mr.
Yeager, I’m requesting you to rescue my grandfather.”
Lionel responded with an “Oh,” chuckling, “You’ve come to the perfect person.
No illness exists that I cannot heal.”
“Mr.
Yeager, without knowing my grandfather’s condition, you claim certainty in curing it?”
Julia’s brow furrowed mildly, deeming Lionel overly conceited.
This fellow boldly uttered such grand claims without examining the patient.
Was seeking his help truly prudent for her and her aunt?
Lionel smiled broadly at the pair, “Rest assured.
Provided the patient still breathes, I can revive them.”
Though Julia grew more dubious of Lionel’s dependability, they had no alternative except to proceed.
Julie remarked, “Mr.
Yeager, let’s head to the hospital now.”
“Sure.”
Lionel agreed with a nod, trailing the women into the vehicle en route directly to River City Central Hospital.
…
River City Central Hospital.
Within an ICU room.
Joan Holman, head of River City’s Four Great Divine Doctors, attended to an elderly man on the bed.
Right then, tension etched every face present.
Particularly Dean Laird Tennat, pacing in agitation.
He had little recourse, as the bedridden patient was Sir Stewart, esteemed patriarch of River City’s elite Stewart family.
Sir Haward Stewart, once a provincial high official, commanded immense respect.
Should calamity befall Sir Stewart, the dean’s position would end abruptly.
Time dragged onward steadily.
Thirty minutes elapsed in a flash.
Joan Holman exhaled deeply, extracting silver needles from Sir Stewart’s acupoints.
“Doctor Holman, what’s Mr.
Stewart’s status?” Dean Tenant pressed eagerly.
All gazes brimmed with hope fixed on Joan Holman.
Doctor Holman shook his head with a sigh, “Had I perfected the final three needles of the ‘Returning Yang Nine Needles’, I might have saved Sir Stewart, but alas, I lack such skill…”
“Doctor Holman, seek another method please!”
“Doctor Holman, save my father, and whatever you desire, the Stewart family offers gladly!”
Stewart’s firstborn Kenneth and second son Justin begged desperately.
Joan Holman wore a pained expression, “I respect Sir Stewart deeply, and with any means, I’d heal him.
Regrettably, my expertise falls short.
I must inform you all: Sir Stewart likely won’t last until midnight.
Prepare for the inevitable…”
No chance remains!
With Doctor Holman’s verdict, none in River City could heal him!
Kenneth and Justin collapsed in despair!
Dean Tenant alongside the physicians heaved heavy sighs!
Yet precisely then!
A voice echoed from beyond the door.
“Who claims this elder won’t endure beyond midnight tonight?”
