Apocalypse: King of Zombies Chapter 1606: The Enemy’s Enemy Was Still an Enemy
Previously on Apocalypse: King of Zombies...
Abyron stared at Ethan, just as dumbfounded as everyone else.
"What are you standing around for?" Ethan called. "Finish them off!"
"Right!"
Abyron snapped out of it and thrust his energy spear at the remaining Stage SSS fighters.
"You hold him here! I’m going to kill that underhanded bastard!" one of the Tier 46 fighters shouted before breaking away and charging Ethan.
The others stared after him in disbelief.
"Holy shit! We could barely hold him off before we lost one, and now you’re leaving too?"
But the Tier 46 fighter was already gone, so they had no choice but to keep fighting.
They were all going to die anyway. If he could take out that obnoxious bastard first, at least some good would come of it.
The Tier 46 fighter closed in on Ethan, sending bloodthirsty vines surging toward him.
"Even if I die today, I’m taking you with me!"
"Keep dreaming."
Ethan hit him with Silencing Gaze, then immediately teleported away.
"Feathers! Get over here!"
Golden Eagle had been mauling the remaining lower-Tier Stage SSS fighters. At Ethan’s call, it beat its wings and shot toward him.
The Tier 46 fighter’s face darkened. He tried to stop Ethan from escaping, only to discover that he couldn’t activate any of his skills.
By the time he regained control of his mental energy, Golden Eagle was already blocking his path.
The Tier 46 fighter stomped his foot in frustration. He’d been so close.
What he didn’t realize was that he hadn’t been close at all. Ethan simply didn’t want to fight him. Even if they had fought, the man might not have been able to do anything to Ethan in the short term.
"All you can do is call for backup?" the Tier 46 fighter shouted, still refusing to give up. "What kind of man are you? Fight me yourself if you’ve got the guts!"
Such a pathetic taunt was never going to work on Ethan.
"You’re Tier 46, and you’re challenging a Tier 42 to a fair fight? You really have no shame."
He pointed at the man.
"Feathers, kill him. You’ll get an extra serving tonight!"
"You got it!"
Golden Eagle lunged at the Tier 46 fighter in excitement.
The battlefield was now firmly under control.
The three Tier 47 Patriarchs could only defend themselves against the Beast Sovereign. Their defeat was just a matter of time.
Abyron had gone from fighting six opponents to four, and the pressure on him disappeared. He immediately went on the offensive, driving them back again and again.
Golden Eagle had no trouble dealing with a single Tier 46 fighter. Before long, the man was covered in wounds.
The four remaining lower-Tier Stage SSS fighters were soon finished off by Dire Bear and Frostfox.
The two Outland Beasts then joined Abyron against his four opponents. Already struggling to hold on, the four Stage SSS fighters quickly fell one after another.
Ethan finally relaxed.
Barring any surprises, the battle would be over soon.
Unfortunately, the worst possible thing always seemed to happen right when no one wanted it to.
Just as everyone finished off the other Stage SSS fighters and prepared to help the Beast Sovereign kill the three remaining Tier 47 Patriarchs, a group of figures appeared in the distance, flying toward them at incredible speed.
An excited voice reached them first.
"Ha! I knew I sensed Stage SSS Outland Beasts fighting! And there’s more than one!"
By the time the voice faded, the newcomers had already reached the battlefield.
They were tall Void Realm creatures with dark purple skin and lightning-shaped marks on their foreheads.
There were only twelve of them, but every one stood suspended in the air.
All twelve were Stage SSS.
"Oh? There’s even an Outland Beast at the peak of Tier 47!" The man leading them laughed excitedly. "This world really is a treasure trove. We’ve barely arrived, and we’ve already found an Outland Beast of this Tier. I wonder if its crystal core could help me break through to the next Stage."
"Probably not," the woman beside him said, shaking her head. "It’s not as though we haven’t tried before. A Stage SSS crystal core can’t help us reach a higher Stage. We’ll probably need to find some other opportunity."
"True."
"But it doesn’t matter. If we capture all these Outland Beasts, the Voltari will still gain a massive boost in strength. If we’d known this world had so many resources, we should’ve come the last time the dimensional rift opened."
"Have you forgotten that we were in the middle of a war back then?" the woman asked helplessly.
"Oh. Right."
The two continued their conversation as though no one else were there.
Everyone stared at the Void Realm newcomers in shock. Even the fighting came to a halt.
Ethan’s expression turned grim. He discreetly signaled behind his back, ordering the Fallen Star Guard to retreat into New Atlas.
The Beast Sovereign also broke off its fight and returned to Ethan’s side, watching the unexpected arrivals with a grave expression.
"Ethan, we may be in trouble this time."
"Yeah." Ethan nodded, his face dark.
Twelve Stage SSS fighters.
Two at the peak of Tier 47, four more at Tier 47, and six at Tier 46.
And they all belonged to the same species.
Did the Voltari rule an entire world?
With a force like that, plus the three Thalorin Stage SSS fighters who were still alive, the situation had turned completely against them.
The three Tier 47 Thalorin Patriarchs brightened at the newcomers’ arrival.
They had thought they were doomed. Instead, they had been handed a chance to survive.
"Thank you for saving us, my lords."
The marked woman gave the Voltari fighters a seductive bow.
Crack!
A massive bolt of purple lightning crashed down from the sky and struck her.
She spat out a mouthful of blood and plummeted to the ground. Her entire body was scorched black as she stared in confusion at the Voltari woman who had attacked her.
"Try flaunting yourself in front of my husband again, and I’ll kill you," the woman said coldly.
"My dear, isn’t that a little excessive?" the Voltari leader asked helplessly.
"What? Feeling sorry for her?"
"I—what are you talking about?"
He felt completely wronged. He’d only taken a couple of extra looks at the large curves barely contained by those markings. Did she really have to react like this?
"You. Kill that slut," the woman ordered.
"Yes."
Several Stage SSS fighters behind the couple nodded and moved toward the marked woman.
"Wait!"
The teal-haired man hurried forward.
"Madam, if Dahlia offended you, then I apologize on her behalf. There’s no bad blood or conflict of interest between us. Surely there’s no need to kill her. In fact, we could work together and wipe out these humans."
"Are you telling me what to do?" The woman turned a cold stare on him. "Who do you think you are? You’re not even worthy of working with the Voltari."
