Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train Chapter 1156 - 445: Volcano_2
Previously on Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train...
The eastern coast of Sea Rock Island appeared as if it were engulfed in a colossal divine cauldron. Enormous domes of steam, each spanning a hundred meters in diameter, erupted violently from the ocean's surface. The dramatic interaction of superheated steam with the frigid air conjured a formidable canopy of thunderstorm clouds. High above, arcs of purple-red lightning seared and fractured through the dense, murky clouds, as a storm heavy with volcanic ash commenced its grim descent, shrouding the sky.
The sea churned with apocalyptic fury, resembling the final moments of the world. Colossal waves would intermittently surge, revealing ominous, shadowy figures lurking in the abyssal depths. The air, thick with the sharp tang of salt and the scent of the sea, hung heavy. Within the confines of the submarine base, a relentless trembling and shaking became pervasive. Lights flickered unsteadily, while pipes designed to condense cold began to burst under the violent vibrations, unleashing a torrent of briny seawater mixed with rust-laden debris to inundate the corridors.
All personnel from both the Infinity and the Hawk Sea Group, assembled within the main hall, displayed drastically altered expressions, as though confronted by an overwhelming and formidable adversary.
"How could this possibly happen? Has the Galan Volcano already initiated its eruption?!"
"Weren't we still expecting over ten hours?"
"What a preposterous notion, that was merely the stability threshold of the device; it bears no relation to the volcanic eruption itself!"
"Quickly!" Chen Sixuan, now fully clad in her gear, led the contingent from the truck into the hall, issuing urgent instructions to the Hawk Sea Group: "We must immediately seal all passages on the upper levels to prevent any Abnormal Bodies from infiltrating through the overflow channels!"
"If we seal everything, how will we make our escape?" Azir of the Hawk Sea Group inquired, his voice tinged with bewilderment and grave concern, stating, "Our entire fleet is stationed at the outer port!"
"Azir!"
Ryan swiftly intervened, commanding, "Follow orders. At this precise moment, we are in the same precarious situation as Infinity. Our sole priority is surviving through tonight; nothing else holds significance."
Azir opened his mouth, then, clenching his jaw, immediately turned to join Chen Sixuan in their ascent to the upper floors.
"Let us offer our assistance as well." Qian Deli, observing the erratic flickering of the lights overhead, adopted a grim expression and signaled to Shu Qin, Lv Chang, and Luo Yang to accompany him.
"Absolutely not!!"
Fragments of debris and dust rained down from the ceiling. Within the control room, emergency red alert lights flashed incessantly. As KIKI observed the readings on the screen, her countenance shifted dramatically.
"The geothermal well has exceeded the safety threshold. We must devise a method to halt it."
"Where is Lin Xian?" Monica inquired.
"Let's go first!" KIKI declared decisively, rising to her feet: "Ryuji, let's proceed together."
At this critical juncture, with no other viable alternatives presenting themselves, KIKI was compelled to summon Ryuji, intending for him to physically intervene and prevent the upper-level equipment from succumbing to the encroaching lava.
Boom!
Just then, a colossal explosion reverberated from beneath the ground. KIKI's gaze snapped upwards, her brow immediately furrowing, and she stated:
"Trouble. Viola must have encountered an assault."
A surge of intensely hot steam erupted from the distant passage of the geothermal well. Instantly, everyone within the hall activated the protective systems integrated into their Power Armor.
"Careful!"
"Get out of the way!!"
Witnessing the unfolding chaos, KIKI advanced and raised a hand, projecting a Telekinesis Barrier that enveloped and shielded the entire control room. The dense white steam rapidly permeated the space, completely obscuring visibility for all present.
Beep beep beep beep.
Concurrently, numerous individuals' Power Armor began emitting high-temperature warnings. The overwhelming heat coated the floor and walls with a sheen of boiling droplets. A tremendous seismic wave emanated from the depths of the earth, threatening to tear the entire submarine base asunder. Corridors commenced to collapse and fracture, metal walls groaned and shrieked in protest, and lights shattered in rapid succession.
As the members of the Hawk Sea Group huddled in the lower levels of the base, gripped by panic, the violent tremors abruptly ceased. The entirety of the base was now a desolate tableau of crumbling ruins and utter devastation.
Precisely as KIKI, Ryan, Monica, and the others within the control room exhaled in a collective sigh of relief, the thunderous sounds of violent explosions from above intensified to a deafening roar.
"This must be the initial eruption, though it's not even the most severe phase yet. However, it appears our time is rapidly running out." Monica brushed a hand through the dust obscuring her vision, her gaze fixed on the remnants of the geothermal device displayed on the screen. She noted the layer of lava was perilously close to the entrance of the base passage. Given its proximity to Infinity's docking location, she remarked, "In the subsequent wave, the lava from the geothermal well could potentially flow directly into the base."
"What are we to do now!"
At this dire pronouncement, a sense of panic seized some members of the Hawk Sea Group.
"If we remain here, are we simply awaiting our demise?"
"Indeed, we would stand a better chance aboard the ships; perhaps we could find a means of escape."
Amidst the growing panic, some male and female team members began to engage in hushed discussions.
Beneath Vanessa’s gleaming Power Armor, her brow was furrowed, her expression etched with worry. The submarine base hidden below the Island presented itself as a secure sanctuary. However, the proximity of the geothermal well cast a dark shadow over their safety. Their initial assessment suggested that once the energy release plan was finalized, the guiding device would stabilize, offering a temporary reprieve from the looming threat of a volcanic eruption.
But this hopeful outlook had dissolved, revealing their chosen path to be the most perilous. Now, they found themselves ensnared, and a full-scale eruption from the geothermal well meant annihilation for everyone present.
"What is our next move?" Vanessa inquired, her gaze fixed on Ryan.
Ryan responded by shaking his head, his primary concern to soothe the rising panic among them. Addressing Vanessa, he stated, "The prison above is currently under assault, likely by an invasion of Abnormal Bodies. Our immediate priority is to unite, offer mutual support, and confront the most critical threats before anything else.—"
Vonnesa, comprehending the urgency, readily agreed and moved with Ryan to implement the plan.
At this precise moment, a palpable heaviness descended upon the air, the pressure becoming almost unbearable. Chen Sixuan, Qian Deli, and Monica’s teams swiftly ascended to the higher levels from Infinity’s position. Concurrently, KIKI spearheaded a group into the geothermal well’s access tunnel.
Emerging from the tunnel, they were immediately engulfed by a sky radiating intense heat and assaulted by the acrid stench of sulfur, a combination that sent throbbing pains through their heads.
