The Red Cliff Base faces imminent destruction as a massive horde of zombie cockroaches and rats breaches the final line of defense. After establishing a desperate radio connection with Fu Shenhan, the comms are severed by a catastrophic explosion. With the base overrun and escape via helicopter rendered impossible, Shang Xixi and Wen Hanyu make a frantic dash to the training area to gather supplies and an armored vehicle. Despite Wen Hanyu’s pleas to be abandoned, the pair struggles to find a way to survive the encroaching tide of monsters.

Even at his current level, Wen Hanyu’s space measured merely 300 square meters in area and rose 10 meters in height. Moreover, he could only gather items within a 10-meter radius.

Maybe because of the surging adrenaline, he avoided the usual dizziness after scooping up so many items all at once. Right after storing the final barrel of gasoline in his space, an engine's rumble reached him from outside.

He dashed out and spotted an armored truck parked there. Shang Xixi had swung open the passenger door and was beckoning him urgently. “Hanyu, hop in!”

As soon as he settled into the seat and shut the door, Shang Xixi floored the accelerator, speeding toward the back gate. He hurriedly buckled his seatbelt and inquired, “Xixi, where to now?”

“Our sole escape route is the back gate. After that, we’ll figure it out on the fly,” Shang Xixi replied, her eyes narrowing as she gripped the steering wheel firmly.

In the next instant, the armored truck plowed through the swarm of zombie cockroaches and zombie rats surging from every side.

Crack! Crash! Crash!

This armored truck was built heavy and fortified with top-tier materials. It could shrug off high-caliber rifle fire and even missile strikes.

Among all the armored vehicles in the lot, she picked this one for its superior defenses, plus the supplies loaded in the rear. The back seats offered a spot to rest, sparing them the hunt for shelter.

The truck barreled over zombie cockroaches and zombie rats with barely any jolts. Yet what terrified Wen Hanyu was his girlfriend lacking even a basic driving license, much less one for a truck.

At that moment, he couldn’t tell which posed the greater threat: her driving or the zombie beasts outside.

While he gaped in horror at the road teeming with zombie animals, Shang Xixi refused to blink. Her mind stayed razor-sharp, every muscle rigid with focus.

No zombie animals obstructed the back gate because a sheer cliff loomed there, dropping 50 meters to a river below.

In a regular vehicle, she wouldn’t have chanced it. But this truck’s wheels conquered any terrain.

Before the end times, she’d watched news footage of military drills where a soldier scaled a sheer cliff in one of these trucks effortlessly.

If they could ascend, she could descend. Nothing was beyond reach with enough courage!

Fueled by that resolve, as the cliff came into view, she braked to reduce speed and charged straight toward it.

Wen Hanyu’s eyes bulged; he clutched his seatbelt desperately. He held his breath, afraid a single yell might distract her and send them plummeting.

Crash! Crack! Crack!

Tumbling stones blended with the engine’s roar and the tires’ screeching skid in their ears.

Shang Xixi appeared composed, but fear gripped her too. Cold sweat soaked her clothes, her face ashen.

After ten endless minutes, the armored truck hit the cliff base. The river had dried in summer and now lay blanketed in thick winter ice.

The truck’s tires weren’t ideal for ice, but they gripped far better than any standard car’s.

Ckittt!

Shang Xixi hit the brakes hard right after reaching the bottom. The truck skidded several meters before halting completely.

Silence filled the cab, broken only by their ragged breaths and thundering heartbeats.

After what felt like ages, Shang Xixi whispered shakily, “W-we made it. We’re alive.”

Wen Hanyu glanced over at his trembling girlfriend. He released his seatbelt and pulled her into an embrace. “Xixi, you’re incredible. We’re safe now.” They clung together briefly before he added, “Let’s get out of here fast.”

With her in no shape to drive, they swapped seats, and he took the wheel. They trailed the river toward the main road.

Huddled in her seat, Shang Xixi glimpsed a gigantic bug unleashing a laser-like beam that obliterated the whole base, visible in the side mirror.

Even from a distance, explosions boomed. Black smoke billowed skyward, eclipsing the sun. Ash mingled with snow, leaving the zone a barren wasteland.

Meanwhile, at the Lin’an City Base, Wen Hanli pored over a map following Fu Shenghan’s message. His face stayed serene, though his hands shook.

The recent contact was probably his little brother, who’d been studying overseas pre-apocalypse.

He’d figured oceanic separation made contact impossible. Yet months later, Fu Shenghan’s group pulled it off.

Right then, he pushed aside thoughts of his brother’s fate. Fu Shenghan had relayed his final words and the blast that severed the link.

Knowing his brother lived, he’d spare no effort to rescue him.

Once he charted likely escape paths, he grabbed his satellite phone and dialed. It rang briefly before connecting.

“Wen Hanli, what’s up with the call now?”

“Captain Jin, I need you and your team’s help.”

Sensing his grave tone, Jin Xuyan probed, “What’s going on?”

“Help me retrieve my brother. He’s in the Thirteen Colonies; his base is under siege by zombie cockroaches and zombie rats.”
