After massaging his forehead for some time, Wen Chang began to feel relief. He lifted his head and caught the curious stares of the Phantom Team members, all eyes fixed on him intently.
"What happened to me?" he rasped out.
His rough voice caught attention, so Wen Kai offered him a bottle of water, saying, "Brother, drink some water first."
With a nod, Wen Chang downed half the bottle and soon felt significantly better.
"Brother, parasites had infected you, leaving you unconscious for over a week. My Sister-in-law's help is what saved you."
Upon hearing that, Wen Chang looked toward Jiao Lizhi and said, "Thank you, Comrade Jiao."
Jiao Lizhi gave a nod and a warm smile.
"Let me examine him first," Gao Bohai stated.
The Wen brothers stepped aside, giving him space to assess their brother's state. After twenty minutes, Gao Bohai declared, "Everything looks normal now. He's completely out of danger."
Thanks to the energy transfer technique, he could now better employ his energy to evaluate others' conditions. Blending it with his medical expertise, he managed to monitor vital signs without any equipment.
Meanwhile, Jiang Ziyi’s voice rang out inside Jiao Lizhi’s mind.
Hearing those words, Jiao Lizhi questioned, "Brother Wen, do you notice any changes in your body?"
Her question made Wen Chang aware that something was indeed off with his body. His vision had sharpened tremendously, and his hearing surpassed its previous sharpness.
Closing his eyes briefly to probe his body, he reopened them and announced, "I have broken through two levels."
"What?!" Xiao Qi exclaimed in shock.
"I should be at Level Five now. How could this happen?" Wen Chang muttered, filled with disbelief.
"With so much energy transferred into you, plus the parasites you absorbed, breaking through one or two levels is perfectly normal," Du Beiye answered nonchalantly.
"Not only you, but the members’ energy pools should have grown as well," Jiao Lizhi chimed in.
The instant she uttered those words, stunned silence gripped everyone.
Focused solely on the rescues, they hadn't noticed before. But a close inspection now showed their energy pools had ballooned enormously, pushing them toward their breaking points.
Their mental strength had visibly strengthened too, setting them up for breakthroughs very soon.
Qin Luzi stood to gain the most at this moment. Earlier, the incessant blinking dots on his maps had tormented him endlessly.
His mental strength, now tripled in power, let him switch his map on and off freely. At last, he could enjoy proper sleep!
This dawning realization nearly brought tears to his eyes right there. To spare himself embarrassment, he ducked his head quickly and drew in deep breaths repeatedly to steady his emotions.
Shortly afterward, Xie Zhou and the others stirred awake one by one. Jiao Lizhi passed around pond water and porridge for them.
As they ate, Jiva—Jiang Ziyi’s system—scanned their bodies thoroughly. Only once confirmed parasite-free did Feng Yun dispel the spatial barrier enclosing the building.
With the barrier lifted, guards hurried off to alert Wei Yunli and Ye Wuze.
By their arrival, the Phantom Team had emerged from the building, with Xie Zhou, Wen Chang, plus doctors, medical personnel, and guards trailing behind.
Seeing their Commander hale and hearty, the tension finally eased from everyone.
Wei Yunli and Ye Wuze approached, scrutinizing Xie Zhou head to foot. Noticing their worry, he smiled and assured, "I’m fine now."
"You still can smile? Do you know how stressed I have been these past days?" Wei Yunli shot him a fierce glare.
Xie Zhou grinned wider and replied, "Sister Wei, I’m sorry for troubling you. This time, I was careless. I promise to be more careful next time."
"Is there still next time?" Wei Yunli demanded, eyes narrowing.
Realizing his slip, Xie Zhou backpedaled fast, "No, no more next time!"
Eyes still narrowed, Wei Yunli warned, "You’d better keep your promise, or I will resign from my post!"
"Yes, Ma’am!"
With the crisis resolved at last, Ye Wuze spotted a change and inquired, "Ah Zhou, did you have a breakthrough?"
Xie Zhou nodded, leaning in to murmur, "Thanks to Comrade Jiao’s timely help, we turned this disaster into fortune. She provided a way to convert the parasites into energy for our bodies to absorb."
Ye Wuze reeled at the revelation. Glancing at the group, he saw even the feeblest among them had hit at least Level Three as a mutant.
The parasites only infected mutants at Level Two or higher. Having absorbed them, their breakthroughs made perfect sense.
After a brief hush, Wei Yunli abruptly questioned, "Is this considered a major power boost for our base?"
Her words made Xie Zhou and Ye Wuze turn to her. Upon reflection, she was spot on.
Over 200 survivors emerged from this ordeal. Though few against Green Lake Base's full populace, their average strength hit Level 4, with some soaring to Level 5 or even 6.
Each level gap meant vast power disparities. A single Level 4 mutant could dominate 50 Level 2 mutants effortlessly. Thus, this surge in strength held immense importance.
