Upon hearing his fiancée remark, Jin Xuyan cast a glance toward the bags and offered a slight nod. "I will make sure to request more from them later."
"Thank you, Brother Yan! You truly are the best," Jiao Lizhi cheered happily.
Even though Mo Junlong insisted that there was no need to tally the crystal cores, Wen Hanli persisted, ordering his men to conduct a precise count. It took over an hour for the group of more than 10,000 individuals to finish the task.
Along with simply totaling the number of crystal cores, they sorted them by grade. Once completed, they documented the figures and presented the final audit report to Wen Hanli.
"Since everyone here witnessed the procedure, there should be no room for skepticism regarding the findings," he declared, unfurling the document.
"The aggregate is 17,868,790 crystal cores. Specifically, we have 9,030,068 level one, 6,880,523 level two, 1,897,538 level three, 58,792 level four, and 1,869 level five crystal cores."
Just as he finished, Jin Xuyan interjected, "My team shall be claiming the entirety of the level five stocks."
At this, Mo Lingzhen immediately retorted, "An agreement to distribute the loot was in place. What right do you possess to seize every single level five core for yourself?"
Jin Xuyan sneered coldly at her remark. "Those level five specimens were eliminated solely by my squad. By sharing anything at all, I am already showing profound generosity. If I chose to claim everything, who among you could possibly stop me?"
Wen Hanli shot a subtle glance his way, noting the clear animosity directed toward Mo Lingzhen. Ordinarily, a figure like Jin Xuyan would never deign to acknowledge a person of her stature. He wondered briefly what she had done to provoke such a powerful, monstrous entity.
Seeing the woman hovering on the brink of disaster, he intervened swiftly. "Comrade Mo Lingzhen, Captain Jin is correct in his assessment. His team was the one that shielded your base and dispatched the vast majority of the threats. Those resources are rightfully his portion."
Unlike Mo Lingzhen, both Mo Junlong and Mo Junzi were acutely aware of the shifting energy surrounding Jin Xuyan. The crushing pressure they felt under his gaze was stifling, yet they were unable to even discern his level, indicating he had surpassed them by a vast margin.
In their current position, inviting additional foes was unwise. Before Mo Lingzhen could offer another rebuttal, Mo Junlong silenced her.
"Captain Jin, we are in agreement. Please, help yourself to the level five crystal cores."
With a raised eyebrow, Jin Xuyan retorted, "Do not attempt to sound as though this is a gift. They were mine from the start."
Mo Junlong offered a diplomatic smile and remained silent.
Following this brief tension, Wen Hanli instructed his staff to divide the remaining haul into three equal shares. By the time the process concluded, the sun was already settling into the afternoon.
Jiao Lizhi tucked the cores away into her space, then gave her fiancé a poke in the ribs. Feeling her signal, Jin Xuyan spoke up, "Vice Commander Wen, kindly have 100 large polystyrene cooling bags prepared for me."
"Captain Jin, our supplies include plenty of those bags. We can certainly prepare them for you," offered Mo Junzi.
Expecting a refusal, they were surprised when Jin Xuyan agreed instantly. "We are departing tomorrow. Please ensure they are ready as quickly as possible. Thank you."
Having finished his request, he took his fiancée’s hand and promptly exited the presidential suite. It was nearing 4:00 PM when they finally stepped outside the building.
Pulling out his satellite phone, Jin Xuyan broadcast a single message to his team.
"Plans have changed. We leave tomorrow."
The members were not entirely surprised upon receiving the notification. Since they finally had a moment of respite, they had already cleaned out a three-story residence to serve as their temporary living quarters.
Simultaneously, back at the Mountain Base, Pei Yijun finally received word of Pei Gan’s demise from a mole positioned near his father.
"Are you completely certain this information is accurate?" he demanded.
"Boss, it has been confirmed by Pei Xun himself, and I personally witnessed the remains."
Upon hearing this, Pei Yijun’s hand curled into a tight fist. He had never imagined the source of his long-standing nightmares would vanish so abruptly.
"Was the identity of the killer uncovered?" he pressed further.
"According to the final visual logs retrieved from Pei Gan’s integrated chip, he was struck down by a masked intruder. We possess nothing regarding the individual's identity, though we did observe the use of an eerie black flame."
The profile of Jin Xuyan immediately dominated Pei Yijun’s thoughts. "Keep a low profile for the time being. Update me immediately the moment you uncover any further details."
"Understood."
After ending the transmission, Pei Yijun made one more inquiry, waiting until the receiver on the other side finally picked up.
"Brother Pei, are there any further instructions?" asked Li Yang.
"Li Yang, I need you to investigate the recent movements of Jin Xuyan."
"Ah, I have been hearing reports about his team from our sources near Green Lake. Over the last few weeks, they have been occupied with defending the Sanchou Base against a massive tide of zombies."
"The latest intelligence suggests they successfully defended the location despite facing more than 18 million foes. I have no idea where such a number originated; it is equivalent to the population of several major cities combined."
Pei Yijun fell silent, absorbing the weight of Li Yang’s words. After a long pause, he asked, "Are you implying he never left Sanchou to head toward Luyang City?"
Li Yang shook his head decisively. "It would be physically impossible for him to leave Sanchou, even if he desired to. The city was completely overrun."
"Furthermore, there were over a thousand level five zombies embedded within that horde. No matter how formidable he and his squad might be, escaping unscathed would have been impossible."
Gazing out the window, Pei Yijun muttered, "I understand. Bring your team back as soon as you are able. I have a lingering sense of foreboding that something terrible is about to unfold."
