Xie Zhou inclined his head toward the middle-aged man and inquired, "Doctor Fu, what is the current situation?"
"We are still awaiting the test results, but based on the symptoms manifesting in the patients, we are 70% certain that this parasite is transmitted via bodily fluids," Fu Huike explained.
"Doctor Fu, is there any way to prevent further contamination?" Wen Chang prompted.
"Because this parasite requires a 10-day incubation period before becoming infectious, we can utilize quarantine measures to halt its spread. However, surgical removal is not an option, as the parasite embeds itself into the flesh upon the slightest contact."
Xie Zhou paused in thought before asking, "Doctor Fu, do you possess any viable solutions?"
Fu Huike exhaled a weary sigh and shook his head. "The parasite actively consumes the host's nutrients and vitality. Without an intervention, the patients will likely perish within 20 days following the incubation phase."
Upon hearing this grim forecast, Xie Zhou remained quiet for a moment before stating, "I understand. I will reach out to Professor Mo to see if he can provide any assistance."
At the mention of Mo Junjie, Fu Huike’s eyes brightened. "If we can secure Professor Mo's expertise, that would be ideal."
Xie Zhou cast a glance toward the mutants held in the isolation rooms and remarked, "Doctor Fu, I must impose upon you and your team to handle matters for the time being."
Fu Huike offered a faint smile. "It is no burden. Preserving life is the fundamental duty of a physician."
After departing the health center, Xie Zhou returned to his private office and initiated a call. It rang for several moments before someone answered.
"Commander Xie, what is the reason for your call?"
Sensing the irritation in Mo Junjie’s tone, Xie Zhou remarked smoothly, "Professor Mo, my apologies for the late interruption, but there is an urgent matter that requires your intervention."
Over at the Sanchou Base, Mo Junjie had only just closed his eyes when the phone interrupted him. He massaged his face before asking, "What is it?"
"We have discovered a parasite within the mutants' bodies, which is driving them out of control. It has a 10-day incubation period and spreads through contact with body fluids."
"Our medical staff attempted surgical extraction, but the parasite migrates into the body upon contact. To safeguard our personnel, we have resorted to quarantine and require your assistance in developing a cure or vaccine."
Mo Junjie’s interest was piqued by the explanation. After brief deliberation, he responded, "I will have my captain facilitate my transport to the Green Lake Base tomorrow. In the meantime, ensure all blood samples and vital statistics are thoroughly documented."
Relieved that the request was accepted, Xie Zhou exhaled. "I will have the medical team prepare the necessary samples and data immediately."
"If that concludes our business, I am hanging up now," Mo Junjie stated.
"Rest well, Professor Mo."
Once the line went dead, Mo Junjie leaned back into bed, though sleep felt elusive. Given his desire to avoid the Mo family, investigating this strange parasite seemed like a prudent distraction.
Simultaneously, Jiao Lizhi and Jin Xuyan remained within her personal space.
Jin Xuyan was busy training the chimeras while Jiao Lizhi assisted Feng Yuxuan with cooking in the yard. Jiang Ziyi was sequestered in the System’s laboratory, focused on crafting the RV-078 solution.
Thanks to the ample resources recovered during the Matkuna assault on the Lin’an City Base, they no longer feared a depletion of materials, particularly after securing a full specimen of a Matkuna General.
Since the passage of time functioned differently within the space, they worked tirelessly until the alarm on Jiao Lizhi’s watch signaled them. Checking the time, she whispered, "It is already three in the morning."
Turning to Feng Yuxuan, she added, "Brother Feng, please store the finished meals in the warehouse when you have finished. Thank you for your hard work."
Feng Yuxuan provided a curt nod. "Understood."
Once back inside the house, Jiao Lizhi showered and donned clean attire. She proceeded to rouse her fiancé before they stepped back out of the space together.
They materialized in a room within an abandoned house. Finding the space relatively sanitary, they resolved to remain there until their return to Lin’an City. Since it was still dark outside, Jin Xuyan pulled her close, and they drifted back into a light sleep.
At six in the morning, the continuous ringing of Jin Xuyan’s satellite phone shattered the silence. Jolted awake and feeling temperamental, he grabbed the device and checked the caller ID before answering.
"I finally managed to get some decent sleep after a month of combat. You had better have something significant to report, or do not blame me for being harsh," he growled, his voice raspy.
Xun Che chuckled on the other end. "I trust I haven’t interrupted any private moments between you and your lady."
"Skip the pleasantries. What do you want?"
Undeterred by the hostility, Xun Che replied, "Old Wen informed me just now that the Mo family has conceded to your demands. The Phantom Team will receive 60% of all crystal cores, leaving 30% for the Lin’an City Base."
Jin Xuyan raised a brow. "I never anticipated them becoming so generous."
"It was not easy to reach this agreement, but it was certainly worth the effort."
"Is that the only reason you called?" Jin Xuyan questioned.
After a brief silence, Xun Che continued, "I received a report from the Green Lake Base regarding those parasites found in the mutants. We necessitate the help of your members once again."
"You’re looking for Mo Junjie’s expertise on this?"
"Not just him—we would also like to borrow Du Beiye from your ranks."
Jin Xuyan pondered it for a moment. "My team will head over once we wrap up our current affairs here."
Xun Che audibly sighed with relief. "My thanks, Old Jin."
"Think nothing of it."
