Jiang Ziyi conversed with his system Jiva about the futility of relying solely on a cure to stop the apocalypse, affirming his determination to succeed. A group of mutants led by the old man Pei Gan arrived at the city center border, where Jiang Ziyi eradicated the remaining zombies, demolished the area with an explosion, and incinerated the corpses using black flames. Recognizing Jiang Ziyi as Subject Zero, Pei Gan confronted him, but Jiang Ziyi swiftly killed an interfering mutant and demanded the return of stolen items, igniting a fierce battle where he overpowered Pei Gan with enhanced speed, punches, laser shots, and a melting dagger strike.

Intense pain surged through his chest, causing Pei Gan to gaze at Jiang Ziyi in terror as he whispered, "Who are you?"

Jiang Ziyi’s eyes grew even colder upon hearing that. He rotated the dagger slowly and declared, "A corpse doesn’t require excessive knowledge."

With those words spoken, the dagger plunged straight into Pei Gan’s heart. This time around, as the blade’s point contacted the organ, it unleashed a scorching heat that liquefied the heart within mere seconds.

He perished instantly, without any chance to react.

Seizing Pei Gan’s head firmly, Jiang Ziyi decapitated him with a quick twist.

In the midst of the mutants’ terrified stares, he smashed the skull and extracted a thumbnail-sized crystal core. Transparent at first glance, it revealed itself as a multicolored gem upon closer inspection.

He examined the crystal core briefly before instructing, "Jiva, merge this crystal core into the main system."

Immediately after, the crystal core vanished from his grasp, replaced by a robotic voice resounding in his thoughts.

Having reclaimed his possession, Jiang Ziyi saw no reason to linger with the mutants. He faced them and announced, "If you want to survive, remove the tracking chip yourselves."

The mutants realized that defiance meant certain death. Yet extracting the tracker signified treason against the Organization, forcing them into a life as fugitives.

After exchanging uneasy looks, one mutant drew his dagger and sliced into his own neck. Enduring the agony with clenched teeth, he extracted the device.

Witnessing this act of betrayal, the others hesitated but soon followed. From the 500 individuals, just 176 managed to remove their trackers without perishing. The others succumbed right there.

Jiang Ziyi chuckled lightly, observing the scene with evident delight.

The mutants, unnerved by his eerie laughter, braced for slaughter. To their surprise, the masked figure vanished abruptly after his mirth, abandoning them.

Simultaneously, dizziness overwhelmed Jiao Lizhi and Du Beiye, sending them crumpling to the ground, immobilized for several minutes.

Luckily, their squad mates were nearby. As soon as the symptoms appeared, the team encircled and shielded the pair at the formation’s center.

Once they recovered, the voices of their Systems reached them.

Perplexed, Du Beiye queried, "Krayan, what does this signify?"

"And the soul link?" he pressed further.

Jiao Lizhi creased her brow and inquired, "Gaia, what’s this about the main system? Aren’t you and Krayan the main system?"

"Jiva? The Great Commander’s missing system? When did the main system come online? Who hosts it now?" Her shock was palpable.

This time, Gaia offered no details, merely stating,

Upon hearing that, Jiao Lizhi pieced it together. "Jiang Ziyi, what on earth are you up to?" she murmured under her breath.

As they puzzled over the events, the clash with the zombie swarm raged on. Owing to the Phantom Team’s tactic of eliminating the leading high-rank zombies, the assault concluded after 15 grueling days.

On the 16th day following the Lin’an City Base’s reinforcements reaching Sanchou Base, the final zombie fell.

The extended fight left Sanchou Base’s defenses teetering on collapse. Injuries among the mutants mounted heavily. Positively, they harvested numerous level 3, level 4, and even level 5 crystal cores.

While underlings gathered the crystal cores, the commanders convened in the top building’s presidential suite.

Without a proper conference setup, all lounged on sofas.

Apart from Jin Xuyan and Jiao Lizhi, who casually munched on scallion pancakes, the others eyed one another warily. The atmosphere crackled with tension.

Soon, the door swung open, admitting Wen Hanli. Jiao Lizhi greeted him with a warm smile and a nod.

He acknowledged her courteously, settled into a seat, and began, "Apologies for the delay. I’m Wen Hanli, Vice Commander of the Lin’an City Base. With all present, let’s commence the discussion."

His words prompted the secretary to hand out folders. Each person flipped open the contents and scanned the papers.

After some time, Mo Junlong set his folder down on the table and challenged, "Vice Commander Wen, your forces arrived midway through the fight. Why should we accept your terms?"

Wen Hanli grinned in response. "True, my base joined late. But so did yours."

Pausing briefly, he added, "It’s clear the Phantom Team bore the heaviest burden in safeguarding Sanchou Base. As members of my base, it’s reasonable for us to claim 80% of the crystal cores."

"Regardless, we suffered heavy casualties. At minimum, we deserve 40%," Mo Junzi countered.
