Their briefing wrapped up in just five minutes. Right after, the team leaders guided their groups to assume defensive positions, allowing the Mutants of the Mo family and the Phantom Team some time to recuperate.
After ten minutes passed, the Phantom Team members assembled inside a deserted building close to the base's central area.
Qin Luzi unfolded the map of Sanchou City and marked a few spots with a red pen. 'Captain, these spots show the greatest chance of encountering high-level zombies.'
Jin Xuyan and the others examined the map briefly before Cheng Rui inquired, 'Brother Qin, what makes you believe these locations could harbor high-level zombies?'
'Have you observed that most zombies assaulting the base are only level 1 or level 2?'
Upon hearing that, all nodded in agreement.
'If I'm correct, those zombies serve merely as fodder to drain our resources. Within these zones, the majority of zombies reach level 4, including a handful at level 5. These areas boast the strongest fortifications compared to elsewhere.'
Jiao Lizhi pondered briefly and whispered, 'If even the level 5 zombies are being directed, then what power level does the zombie commanding this entire horde possess?'
Qin Luzi shook his head in response. 'I monitored my map throughout the ordeal.'
'Within an 80-kilometer range, the strongest zombie tops out at level 5. With numerous level 5 zombies present, they'd have turned on one another ages ago. It's unthinkable they'd unite to orchestrate the horde.'
No sooner had he spoken than Jiang Ziyi's voice resounded inside Jiao Lizhi's thoughts.
Jiao Lizhi jolted at his abrupt interjection.
Following a brief pause, Jiao Lizhi posed a question.
On this occasion, Jiang Ziyi let out a light laugh and responded.
As she conversed with him mentally, the team had wrapped up their strategy talk.
'All of you, restore your stamina to the fullest. We depart in 30 minutes,' Jin Xuyan announced.
'Got it.'
Jiao Lizhi retrieved a pouch of Sthanam crystals and passed them around to the group. Once the members replenished their energy, she slipped away to a quiet backstreet.
With a mere thought, she summoned Jiang Ziyi from her space. He stood before her, still nibbling on his apple.
Aware he was now outside her space, he remarked, 'Fengyan, next time you yank me out, could you warn me beforehand?'
Brushing off his comment, Jiao Lizhi grabbed his backpack and offered him a satellite phone. 'Use this to reach me if you require aid.'
Jiang Ziyi took the device and extended a hand to ruffle her hair. 'No need to fret. If I choose not to perish, nobody can take my life.'
Jiao Lizhi swatted away his meddlesome hand and rolled her eyes. 'As if I'm concerned about you.' With that, she spun around and abandoned him in the alley.
Gazing at her retreating figure, the grin faded from Jiang Ziyi's face. He brushed his left wrist, prompting a blue interface to materialize ahead.
He pressed a series of controls, and shortly, a message displayed on the blue screen.
As the timer reached zero, a well-known voice rang in his head.
At those words, Jiang Ziyi's gaze warmed, and he answered with a grin.
'Establish the connection to Gaia and Krayan.'
After a complete minute, Jiva's voice returned.
'Engage the Great Commander's core system.'
'
In response, Jiang Ziyi nodded and stated, '50% will suffice nicely.' He glanced once more toward Du Beiye and Jiao Lizhi's location before adding, 'Initiate the space portal.'
Simultaneously, Jiao Lizhi caught Gaia’s voice sounding in her mind.
A puzzled mark formed in her thoughts as she queried, 'Gaia, what's happening?'
She lingered in wait, yet received no reply from her system. Though suspicions lingered, lacking answers, she shoved the issue aside temporarily.
Amid her bewilderment, Jiang Ziyi had vanished from Sanchou Base, materializing at Luyang City's outskirts.
In contrast to Sanchou City, Luyang City resembled a forsaken phantom settlement. Survivors were nowhere in sight, and even zombies failed to appear on the streets.
Perched atop a skyscraper, Jiang Ziyi donned his glasses and lightly tapped the frame.
Instantly, a compact map projected before him. It brimmed with clustered red markers that could overwhelm anyone with a fear of dense patterns.
He smirked and muttered, 'A rodent remains a rodent forever, doomed to skulk beneath the earth eternally.'
Once his statement ended, he vaulted off the roof, and promptly, a robotic tone reverberated in his mind.
Differing from Krayan or Gaia, which await commands to engage functions, Jiva operated as a self-sufficient system.
