Lin Yin burst into Su Fei's lavish wedding disheveled and accusing her adopted sister of orchestrating her humiliation with hooligans and poison. Guests whispered scandals about the swapped daughters, while Su Fei feigned innocence and Zheng Chao scorned Lin Yin. Her biological parents, Su Zhen and Chu Yun, rejected her pleas, slapped and kicked her, as she declared herself the true Lin heir amid mounting injuries and disdain.

Chapter 2: Life Isn’t Worth It

“Yes, I took the poison myself. I believed you meant well for me. The daily supplements you provided contain a slow poison. I’ve consumed them for seven or eight years. You might as well just kill me!”

She figured the pain would have faded, yet in this instant, agony and despair crashed over her like a fierce tempest.

Lin Yin was aware of the plots against her and the humiliations she endured, aware of the poisoning and injuries inflicted, yet her own parents remained utterly heartless. Amid the onlookers, their stares burned with a desire to slaughter her a thousand times over.

Memories of her mother in the slums flooded Lin Yin’s mind. Though mentally unstable with scarce lucid moments, her mother had shielded her tenderly. She scrimped to buy Lin Yin a schoolbag like others had and mended her worn shirt until patches vanished. Sadly, she passed too soon. The young Lin Yin savored scant years of motherly affection before growing wild like untamed grass. Those cherished recollections brought a fleeting warmth.

“Mom, I’ll see you shortly.”

Lin Yin’s cold demeanor eased, a gentle smile blooming on her face. True joy like this hadn’t touched her in ages.

“She’s lying!”

“She’s laughing too! What a jinx! See what she’s done to Su Fei’s wedding?!”

“Lin Yin, you deceitful trash!”

Lin Yin’s eyes snapped open, blazing with fury in their stunning depths. After years of servile obedience in the Su Family, this marked her first defiant glare at her birth parents. Step by step, she advanced. Su Zhen backed into a corner under her pressure. Chu Yun clutched his sleeve in panic, nearly ripping his costly suit.

“Do you even recognize me as your real daughter? I endured years in the slums. Did you ever search for me? When Su Fei got ill at six, you learned she wasn’t yours by blood. Did you ever come looking?”

“We fetched you and raised you all these years. We’ve done right by you!” Su Zhen barked sharply.

“All I craved was a sliver of warmth. Just a bit. Why treat me with such brutality?”

“I demanded nothing. Just a touch of affection.”

“Do you see me as family? Or merely a maid, a slave...”

“The day you came for me, joy overwhelmed me. I lay awake all night thrilled. Finally, someone to cherish me.”

“But why dangle hope before me? Why seek me out all of a sudden?”

“My existence isn’t worth it. Truly not. It soils your sight.”

Gasping faintly for air, her words echoed through the hall, silencing the entire assembly. The nearby cleaning lady felt pity for this wretched girl and cast scornful looks at the Su Family.

Emotion had drained from Lin Yin’s tone entirely. She stated facts calmly, no pleading or groveling, yet this resolve pierced hearts deeper.

“Finished with your tantrum? You already drove Grandpa to his grave. Now you aim to kill Dad too?” Su Fei struck with the perfect retort at last.

Lin Yin’s lips quirked faintly. At it again. She excelled at this performance.

“Ah Yin, please, I implore you. Stop targeting Dad deliberately. Aim your anger at me. If you resent me, say it outright. Don’t shame the whole family at an event like this.” Su Fei’s voice carried the soft grace of a wealthy heiress, lending weight to her plea. Sympathy shifted toward the kind, tolerant Su Fei.

“Exactly! Last time, this Lin Yin enraged Old Master Su! She’s ungrateful!” A shout rose from the crowd.

None of it signified anymore. Everything faded into irrelevance. Who gave them the right to condemn? Lin Yin resolved to stir no further chaos.

Lin Yin tilted her head with a smile. “Anything else?”

“Please, just be kinder to Mom and Dad. Hate me all you want—even if you steal Brother Chao, I won’t complain. Honestly, I beg you.” Su Fei’s plea grew more earnest, cementing Lin Yin’s villainous image once more.

Lin Yin smiled as she heard her out, then spun toward the hotel exit. She yearned never to face the Su Family again. Born into them by blood, yet beyond that tie, she shared no bond.

She’d survived the slums once. Filthy and lowly. Even as their true daughter, she stayed trampled in the dirt, unable to rise.

Even such lofty folk could spawn monsters.

“Where do you think you’re going?!” Zheng Chao, still fuming from her pursuit, moved to block her escape and sever ties publicly.

Years spent in the slums had taught her that survival required ruthlessness. Lin Yin whipped around, yanked the heel from her arm, and drove it deep into Zheng Chao’s thigh. A shrill scream erupted from Zheng Chao, sharp as a panicked chick’s cry.

Lin Yin eyed the heel’s owner. “Your shoe’s not dirty now. I cleaned it with a noble’s blood.”

“Security, grab this madwoman!” Chu Yun jabbed a finger at Lin Yin, bellowing for the guards.

“I’m a lunatic, just like my slum mother. Hahaha...” Lin Yin roared with laughter. “Even as a lunatic, she’s a thousand times superior to you!”

“You’re utterly insane!” The Zheng family shrieked too. “In-law, are you going to stand there while your deranged daughter slays my only son?!”
