Lu Ming instructed his men to release Fu Chen and, after glancing at the document himself, passed it over to him.
He explained, “The answers you're seeking are all in there. Indeed, after the downfall of the Fu and Zhou families, the eight great families snatched up plenty of their resources. Yet, the Fu family wasn't immediately crushed by those eight families right at the start.”
Fu Chen flipped through the pages one after another, muttering under his breath, “This isn't right, it can't be! The Fu family was completely innocent!”
Once Fu Chen had gone through everything, Lu Ming went on. “That car crash where the couple and Wei Ji’s parents plunged off the cliff was truly orchestrated by the Wei Chuan pair. I'll escalate this to the authorities so you get the justice you deserve. But for the wrongs you've committed, I'll turn you over to the police.”
Lu Ming's subordinates cleared out all the people on site. Just before they hauled Wei Ji off, he clutched at Lin Yin and pleaded desperately, “Can I spend a little more time with you?”
Lin Yin glanced toward Lu Ming, receiving a nod in return.
She guided Wei Ji along the outdoor path. Quite some time later, he inquired, “You've known all along that I'm Bean Bao, haven't you?”
A subtle smile from Lin Yin as she nodded made Wei Ji's eyes brim with tears. He complained, “Why keep it from me? Had you spoken up, I never would've let Huo Ge whisk you away to Country D. I wouldn't have allowed you to nearly lose your life, using it to fan the flames between the Mu and Lu families.”
Lin Yin replied with a smile, “I didn't want those slum memories haunting you. It's fine that way. After all, we're merely acting our parts. We're no true foes. Huo Ge never actually killed me.”
A bitter smile crossed Wei Ji's face. “Exactly. You've always been so clever. A petty scheme like that could never fool you.”
Lin Yin tilted her head down at Wei Ji and questioned, “So Fu Ce was actually you? No wonder his silhouette seemed so recognizable. That makeup artist Shen Lin handled your disguise, didn't she? You're incredibly skilled at faking a disability!”
Wei Ji gave a nod.
“Shen Lin's talents are remarkable,” Lin Yin remarked. “And Fu Bei?”
“Fu Bei is the daughter of my father—no, my uncle. He fathered her with a woman from Country D,” Wei Ji explained.
Curiosity sparked in Wei Ji as he asked, “How did you uncover who I really am?”
With a smile, Lin Yin answered, “Huo Ge let it slip. As a Huo family offspring, his memories were tampered with by your uncle and others from childhood. I had Second Brother hypnotize Huo Ge to restore his true recollections. Based on Huo Ge's words, I believed you were genuinely Fu Chen's son.”
Lin Yin hesitated briefly. “But doubts crept in when I learned Fu Chen intended for you to strap a bomb to yourself. What father would sacrifice his own child for vengeance? He fabricated Huo Ge's identity, so yours might be fabricated too. I just never imagined you'd belong to the Wei family.”
Tears welled in Wei Ji's eyes. Finally, after a prolonged silence, he whispered, “Sister, forgive me!”
The word ‘Sister’ made Lin Yin's eyes sting with emotion.
Every path reaches its conclusion. Even so, Lin Yin's heart ached deeply as Lu Ming's men led Wei Ji away.
Yet, the moment Wei Ji stepped forward, Feng Yu plunged a blade into his heart.
“Why?” Lin Yin demanded, her voice laced with shock.
Feng Yu finally spoke up. “Wei Ji intentionally placed my sister in that school to target the Yue and Wei families. He exploited our bond with you to make you suspicious of the Wei and Yue families, spurring you to take them down!”
In a frenzied scream, Feng Yu cried, “Wei Ji murdered my sister!”
Shock filled Lin Yin's gaze as she stared at the remorseful Wei Ji. She'd suspected he'd manipulate her against the Yue family and Wei Chuan, but Feng Rong's fate was an unforeseen twist.
Lin Yin averted her eyes while Lu Ming ordered his men to rush the wounded Wei Ji to safety.
Once more, the capital's elite families underwent a dramatic upheaval.
Due to his roles in trafficking, human trafficking, and deliberate murder, Huo Ge received the death sentence.
Wei Ji, barely clinging to life, drew a five-year prison term for offenses against society.
The Wei Corporation vanished entirely from the capital's scene amid the organ trade scandal.
For their plotted killing over a decade past, Wei Chuan and Ning Sheng faced life sentences.
The Fu family, freshly prominent in the capital, faded into obscurity as well.
Mu Ning earned three years behind bars for abducting Sun Yun.
With all matters resolved, the world felt remarkably more serene.
“Yinyin, when will you introduce me to your family as your boyfriend?” Lu Ming murmured tenderly, wrapping his arms around Lin Yin from behind.
The Mu family, who had sneaked in to surprise Lin Yin on her birthday, froze upon hearing this—Mu Ran most of all. He leaped to his feet, berating Lu Ming as utterly shameless.
What began as a splendid birthday bash erupted into complete mayhem.
At long last, Lu Ming wed Lin Yin upon her reaching 25 years of age.
