After clearing bug nests and returning to orbit, the captain and crew seek a break at a busy trade station. Upon arrival, they are granted preferential docking due to the captain's reputation. The captain contemplates bringing her dog, Freyja, to the station.

I stepped out of my ship with my girls and Freyja accompanying me, my girls clearly watching Freyja carefully like it was a bomb that was about to go off.

We followed the corridor that led into the station where a security outpost was stationed.

Instead of having an actual person manning the checkpoint, there was only a scanner which we just had to walk through that did a scan of us to check if we had any contraband items or we were wanted people.

I was a little hesitant about going through the scanner at first since I had a former Pirate Lord, an escaped Psionic experiment, a runaway Psionic Noble and an eldritch entity in my group but... Renata assured me that it would be fine so I trusted her.

Sure enough, we stepped through the scanner with the machine not making a sound, not even when Freyja walked through it so we just kept walking.

"Isn’t that thing susceptible to getting hacked?" I asked, looking back at the scanner.

Amber grinned, "It certainly is. That’s why smugglers and pirates like stations that have these as their main security measures~ They could just hack it and sneak inside the station."

"Sounds like a very big security problem that should be dealt with instead of just being left alone?" I pointed out.

"Ehehe~ There’s the issue of the station administrators being bribed to keep this security ’measure’ alive as well. And besides, this also saves them the cost of hiring people to do it too."

Tsk... Should have thought that might be the reason... There’s always corruption everywhere you go...

I shrugged, "Alright, let’s do what we need to do first... We resupply the ship first before we see what this station has to offer."

Lea perked up, "I already did that, Mistress. There seems to be a rather popular bar located within this station that is on the middle levels. They say that they serve really good drinks."

I raised an eyebrow at her, "A bar? Hmm... I guess we can go and check it out... We can go there after we do our things. Meet you girls there?"

All of them nodded as we split up.

For me, I would be headed to the Mercenary Guild to check for any jobs that we could take. The bug nest clearing job is great and all but I certainly don’t want to be stuck just doing that for the next few months.

That’s why I was thinking we could do some odd jobs in between before we go back to dealing with the bug nests again.

Who knows? We might come across some better paying jobs in the meantime.

Not that we really need more money since we could actually afford a D Class or even an entry E Class ship with the money we earned so far...

We don’t really need that big of a ship with my current crew so I probably won’t be changing ships anytime soon.

Honestly... We’re basically just doing it more for fun at this point than for the money. Not that I would complain about having more money of course.

That’s why even though I could just check for Guild hustles through the GalaNet, I decided to visit the building itself since there would be Mercs gathering there who might have news about good jobs.

The girls split up into their usual groups while I proceeded alone, more because I had Freyja with me which basically assured my girls that I would be completely fine even if I suddenly got into a fire fight.

Then again... Renata was also with me anyway so there was no need to worry.

I took the elevator down to the floor that the Guild was located on and stepped into the surprisingly bustling streets of the station.

This place seemed to be designed to look like a city with columns coming down from the sky that lead to different levels of the station. The buildings around were also designed with a certain, specific aesthetic where neon signs and holographic advertisements scrolled through the air.

If you were to ignore the fact that the ’sky’ was made out of metal, you could almost see yourself walking through the streets of what might be a cyberpunkish city.

Heck, most of the people around here seemed to be sporting a lot of Cybernetic mods as well, making me stand out for not having any Cyware.

That is... Already ignoring the fact that I had a dog beside me of course.

I stepped out of the lift and the people closest to me flinched back quite dramatically when they saw Freyja beside me.

They then snapped their attention to me, their eyes wide with fear as though trying to check if I actually had control over my dog.

I didn’t really owe them anything so I just checked my map and started walking through the streets to head in the direction of the Guild building.

Most people made way for me when they saw me, clearly trying to avoid Freyja more than me as they pressed themselves against the wall while I walked past.

Hmm... If this is what happens when I bring Freyja out for a walk... I might actually do this more often~

Although the fact that I heard some people whispering behind me was a downside...

"Crazy bitch..."

"Is that a fucking dog?"

"Who the fuck is that crazy bitch?!"

Tsk... Speak for yourselves. Freyja is so cute and you guys are just too stupid to see the cuteness.

Hmm... Looking at the map... I could go the long way around the main street or go through the alleyway in between these megabuilding complexes as a shortcut...

Well, obviously I was going to take the shortcut.

I turned down a narrow street and ignored the rubbish piled up along the walls to start making my way down the narrow path.

The road here was quite empty and I continued my walk, only to come across a small area behind one of the buildings that looked like it was meant to house a lift lobby that would lead up into the upper floors of the megabuilding itself.

There was a low wall that separated the lift lobby with the path which came up to my chest in height, which allowed me to peek over the wall if I wanted to.

I was intending to just walk past when I heard pained grunts coming from the side so I stopped and turned.

There, a group of thugs seemed to be kicking some guy that was curled up on the ground, trying his best to defend himself from the thugs by hugging himself.

Hmm... Guess it’s those kinds of cities huh? Well, this is none of my business so--

"Hey?! What are you looking at, bitch?!" One of them shouted when they turned to see me standing there.

He turned fully to face me, picking up a metal pole to start walking towards me menacingly, his other friends now pausing in their torment of the other guy to look in my direction as well.

"I’m talking to you, bitch! You wanna be nosy huh? You’re asking for a fucking beating!"

Really? I literally just happened to pass by and only looked over because I heard some groaning sounds coming from there... It’s not like I intentionally wanted to do anything... I was even prepared to just leave without saying anything, you know?

Also... I realised why he was so brazen... The low wall was hiding Freyja from view...

His friends watched as he continued advancing towards me while pointing the metal pole at me, "Don’t you dare run bitch! I’ll show you a good time for being a nosy bitch!"

He then grabbed the wall and vaulted over it, landing on my side of the path with a cocky grin on his face.

A soft growl came from my side and he paused, his gaze lowering down to see Freyja standing beside me, my cute doggo baring his fangs at the thug and crouched low in preparation to pounce.

The guy’s face instantly changed to one of absolute fear and I could even see his pants darkening as he quite literally pissed himself.

He stood there, completely frozen and afraid to move, turning himself into a statue.

His friends must have realised something was wrong as they also started walking towards me, a few of them even pulling out pistols discreetly.

They did the same thing where they leapt over the wall, still showing cocky looks on their faces before freezing up upon seeing Freyja growling at them.

I tilted my head at the first guy, "Sorry, I was a little distracted just now and wasn’t really listening. Did you say something?"

He shook his head quickly, though it was more like sporadic twitches of his head since it looked like he was too afraid to move as if any sudden movements might set Freyja off.

Honestly, I was doing my best not to laugh at them with how ridiculous they looked.

I pretended to look at my nails, "Hmm... Drop your weapons and your Credits. Then fuck off."

There was no hesitation as their weapons quickly clattered to the ground which was followed by them digging out their Credit Chips to toss them out as well before they ran off.

I waited until they ran before I collected their weapons to store them inside Renata while going over to the beat up guy to drop some of the Credit Chips with him.

He looked up at me, "Wh... Who are..."

I waved him off, "Don’t bother asking."

Without waiting for a response, I strolled off, continuing my way towards the Guild.

At least now I know that this was the type of city where things like this were considered normal...
