I watched as my girls climbed into their own Exo-Knights, before I climbed into mine, settling myself into the seat.

The machine started up and I let my consciousness shift into the machine’s, finding myself standing in the hangar bay.

I let the docking arms detach themselves from me before stepping out, flexing my arms to make sure everything was working before turning to check on my girls.

All of them were also in the midst of detaching their machines from the docking bays and stepping out to join me.

Screens popped out at the side of my peripheral vision, each of them showing my girls in their own cockpits.

"Status report?" I called out to them.

All of them gave me the green status so I nodded at them and moved towards the hangar bay doors as it slid open.

The Iridescence was already heading down towards the planet’s surface under the control of Renata. Nerissa was also on board with all the dogs already packed into their cages once more which will be unloaded into the base where she would then direct to attack the bugs.

Honestly, the reason why I was even joining this fight was because I didn’t feel good sending a hundred dogs out to fight these bugs by themselves.

They can tell me how strong and dangerous they are but to me... They will just be dogs and there’s a hundred of them against what could be millions of these bugs. I’m not letting them fight alone.

Drow of Dawn will remain in orbit while we follow The Iridescence down to the planet’s surface where the ship will remain docked on the platform in case we had to evacuate Nerissa out of the planet.

I checked that the girls were ready one last time before jumping out of the hangar, diving after my ship that was still descending towards the planet’s surface.

My girls followed close behind me, all of them diving with me in an arrow formation while I angled myself to follow after my ship.

We burned through the atmosphere and my shield materialised to take the brunt of the heat before we broke through and the ground came rushing up at us.

The Iridescent fired up the engines and turned away to bring itself to a landing on top of the landing pad while we angled ourselves towards the sea of bugs.

Lasers and kinetic shells were still being fired at the waves of bugs that did not seem to end even after all the non stop gunfire that had been blasting away at them.

The bad thing about fighting here instead of space was that we were burning through more energy than we would to keep ourselves airborne.

Still, we should be able to last quite a while before needing to land to let the energy recharge so we got to make this count at least.

"Let’s go! Clear them out girls!" I ordered.

My girls fanned out to the sides while I spread my wings, stopping myself in the air and letting the laser turrets detach from them to start shooting a rain of lasers at the bugs below.

I watched as a literal rain of death came blasting down on a crowd of those bugs, the projectiles burning through their carapaces and leaving them as smouldering husks on the ground.

I pulled out my autocannon and started firing down at the sea of bugs as well, joining the ships and soldiers that were already trying to clear out the mass of bugs that were still trying to swarm the fort.

My girls had also joined in the assault by now, with Amber firing into the crowd and tearing them open with her autocannons; Lea blasting through columns of them with precision shots from her sniper; Ries bombarding them with her rockets, chainguns and artillery shells; Mara supporting us and disrupting the bugs with her drones; and Yumiko slicing the bugs up with energy blades shot out from slicing her swords.

Right then, I heard a distant boom coming from far into the distance and turned to see green balls of fire arching over towards us, numbering six in total.

Wait... Those things could also be used as artillery bombardments?!

Right as I was thinking about how we could deal with that, Lea raised up her sniper rifle and pulled the trigger five times in quick succession.

The five balls of green fire exploded into embers like green fireworks, lighting up the sky in a sickly green colour.

I didn’t know we could do that. That’s cool.

I then watched as the ships in orbit tracked the paths of the green fireballs to locate those bulbous bugs before they fired their cannons down towards the surface, blasting them into pieces.

With our help, the tsunami of bugs were effectively stopped in their tracks and we were even managing to start pushing them back.

But before any of us could start rejoicing, guns and energy cells had to be reloaded and that gave the bugs the reprieve they needed to advance more, reclaiming the ground they lost and even advancing several metres forward.

I couldn’t help but feel a little frustrated at this and I could tell why the initial colonisation attempts ended in failure and why they never tried to reclaim this planet before today.

But right as I was thinking about trying to secretly use my Psionic powers, a shout came from the centre of the fort and the soldiers that were firing from the top of the front gates stopped shooting entirely.

I almost thought that something bad happened to them like they were attacked, only to hear the collective barks of a hundred dogs before the stomping sounds of them charging through the gates could be heard.

It was honestly a rather surreal sight to see a pack of dogs running out of a heavily fortified military base and charging straight towards a bunch of alien bug creatures.

I felt my heart jump out of my chest as I couldn’t help but have the image of the dogs getting torn apart by those bug aliens fill my mind.

I was going to dive down and start slicing through the bugs in their stead but...

The dogs mowed through the bugs, not even slowing down their advance as they simply charged forward and rammed through them like they were simply charging through things that were made of cardboard.

And I quite literally mean that they were charging right through them as they smashed through their bodies to leave a gaping hole in the bug they had just jumped through with barely any resistance.

Not only that, they were also slashing their claws left and right, cutting them down before any of them could even react.

The dogs fanned themselves out and each of them were taking down even more of those bug aliens than any of the ships above them could gun down in a second.

I just watched as an entire swath of the bug aliens were completely decimated and the dogs were pushing the entire tide back themselves.

It’s like watching a pot of paint spill over and spread out over the floor as the dogs quickly turned the bugs they came across into minced meat.

The soldiers in the fort also slowly stopped firing as the dogs charged into their lines of fire without fear, letting the dogs do their work instead.

The only thing they needed help with was gunning down the flying type bugs that were still swarming from above. But now that all of us could focus fire on the flying types, none of them had any chance of breaking through our defenses and we completely pushed them back.

I chose to fly above the dogs to act as their cover, shooting any of the flying type bugs that tried to swoop down on them and even helping them shoot several of the bugs that were within the crowd to ease their burden.

Even if I’m shown how efficient they were in cutting down all these bugs, I still can’t help but feel the need to help them since they were still cute and fluffy dogs to me.

The others in the defensive line completely avoided the dogs and simply concentrated their fire in the small areas that were not within the dogs’ coverage.

I think that the bugs finally realised that they stood absolutely no change at this point as there was a collective ticking sound coming from all of them as they turned around as one and started running back into their burrows.

The dogs did not stop and continued chasing after them, turning the bugs they caught up with into minced meat as they trailed after them.

I was worried that they would even chase the bugs into the burrows as well but a sharp whistle came from the fort and I realised it was Nerissa blowing the whistle to get the dogs attention.

They skidded to a stop at the edge of the burrows but instead of returning back to the fort, they all turned back and ran over to me.

They gathered themselves in a crowd and looked up at me, their tails wagging happily and panting at me while their fur was soaked with the blood from the bugs.

Erm... I’m in the Exo-Knight... How did you guys even know it’s me?
