What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 939: Psionic Progenitor

I narrowed my eyes at the pirate in front of me, trying to focus on his mind while ignoring the look of fear on his face.
Amber and Mara were watching from nearby, watching my progress while also making sure the pirate doesn’t have any ideas.
He was obviously wishing to be anywhere else but here and maybe even wished that he might have been one of those guys who got blown up instead of being one of the survivors instead.
I focused my thoughts on him just like what Mara said and imagined myself peering into his head.
The guy let out a scream and... His head exploded.
His blood and brain matter exploded all across the walls of the pirate ship and we were only saved from being splattered by the blood because Amber had erected a telekinetic wall ahead of time expecting something like this to happen.
I groaned as Renata slid forward to start eating the corpse like it was no big deal, which probably wasn’t since this was the third pirate that had their head exploded so far and I’m down to the last three.
"What am I doing wrong?" I asked, letting out a sigh.
Mara tapped her cheek. "You are still using too much force, Captain. Unfortunately, organic bodies are quite fragile and the mind is even more so. If you put too much of your power into their heads, they will go pop like that."
She gestured at the blood stains on the walls vaguely.
Yeah... Thanks Mara... I kind of figured that out after the first one... The thing is I don’t even know how much is too much now... I’m literally just putting in minute amounts of my Psionic energy into them which is comparable to a small water droplet dripping onto a puddle and when that happens... Their head explodes...
If that was still too much... I can see why they felt that it was impossible for Psionics to mind control people...
"I’m really just putting in as small of my Psionic energy as possible at this point, you know? If this also makes them explode, I don’t know what else I can do at this point..."
Amber shrugged, "I think at this point, it’s just that you’re too strong, Tera. If that tiny bit of your Psionic energy would make their heads explode like that, I wonder what happens if you don’t hold back? Hey... Maybe that’s the answer? Because you’re holding yourself back so much, that’s why it’s happening? So why don’t we try doing the opposite next?!"
I blinked at her, "You do realise we only have three more pirates left to test this on right?"
She waved her hand dismissively, "Ah, we can always just get more after this! The galaxy is filled with scum like them anyway! It would be a simple thing of just flying around and letting them come to us! IT would be easy!"
She’s talking as if we can just go around and pick them up like rocks by the roadside or something...
Well... Then again... She’s kind of right since they really were everywhere and we could easily find more pirates if we really wanted to look for them.
I nodded at them to bring in the next one and I decided to just try Amber’s idea this time.
The door slid open and a terrified looking pirate was escorted in by Amber, the guy having no choice in the matter of coming here since she had moved in via telekinesis.
He was made to kneel in front of me and he was looking up at me with wide eyes that were filled with fear, the pirate being unable to speak at all while being held still by Amber’s telekinesis.
As I planned, I didn’t try to hold back and directed my Psionic will into his head, aiming to try and get inside to read his thoughts.
The guy froze up and stopped struggling completely and I actually heard something akin to a voice resonating inside my head for a moment.
"I’m going to die... I’m going to die... I’m--"
The voice then suddenly cuts off and the pirate’s eyes rolled to the back of his head.
Amber frowned and released her control over him, prompting the pirate to fall backwards onto the ground with a loud thump.
I would have thought he had fainted if it wasn’t for the fact that blood and some other weird liquid started pouring out from his ears, eyes, mouth and nose.
Amber let out a laugh, "Ahahaha! You liquified his brain, Tera! Ahahahaha!!"
Great...
"I did manage to read his mind for a moment there though. Before his brain liquified apparently."
Mara snapped her attention to me, "You did? What was he saying?"
"He was just repeating that he was going to die over and over again."
Mara nodded, "It seems you did hear his thoughts, Captain. Which is a step forward from not being able to hear anything at all."
I raised an eyebrow even as Renata extended herself out from me to start swallowing up the corpse like a vacuum cleaner.
"Is that really an improvement though?"
"You’re not exploding their heads now at least. I actually think Amber might be onto something here. Instead of limiting your power, it might be better to let you use all your power but maybe in a more controlled way."
"More controlled way? Like how?"
"Honestly, I’m not sure, Captain. I’ve never really heard of a case like yours before. This is all new territory for us."
I let out a sigh, "Which means I would just need to keep practicing, is that it?"
Mara nodded, "Most likely. In the early days where the first Psionics had awakened, they also needed to experiment and practice their powers to figure out what type of Psio... Nic... They... Ah...."
Both Amber and I turned to look at Mara who had obviously figured out something in the last few seconds.
She was staring off into space and her eyes were slowly widening like she had just seen something mind blowing.
She then slowly moved her gaze down towards me, "Tera... You’re... A progenitor..."
I raised an eyebrow, "What is that supposed to mean?"
Amber seemed to share my confusion as well since she was also looking up at Mara and giving her the same exact look I was giving her.
Mara shook her head, "All this while we have been assuming you are the same kind of Psionic as all the other Psionics that have been discovered so far... Psionics weren’t like this."
I blinked at her, "What do you mean?"
"For the current ’modern’ Psionic, the skills that we see all the Psionics being able to use... Telekinesis, the shields, the flight ability... Those were actually not always the standard abilities that all Psionics were capable of."
Amber gasped as she seemed to have come to the same conclusion as Mara.
"Ohhh! Oh shit... I get it now. Ahahaha! Tera has just been so similar that I didn’t even notice! Oh wow... If that’s the case, we’ve been doing things the wrong way, haven’t we?"
I looked at the two girls and frowned, "What’s going on?"
Mara turned to me, completely ignoring the corpse that was being sucked up by Renata that was still sliding towards me on the ground.
"Back then, Psionics awakened very specific Psionic abilities. Some could only move things with their mind, some could only read minds, some could only enhance their strength Psionically, those types of things. When the UTG started experimenting on them, they started messing with their genes and also breeding them to make sure that the abilities that they deemed ’useful’ would be dominant and the abilities that they regarded as ’useless’ would be phased out."
Amber chuckled, "Right~ And then it’s made worse after the Psionics gained that Noble title and they started their own competition of becoming the strongest Psionic family so they also did their own breeding and stuff until the Nobles finalised on a specific template of Psionics that all of them collectively agreed on was the bare minimum standard for Psionics. Then they started to use that as the base to make different specialisations of Psionics."
I blinked at them, "Ok... So... What does that have to do with me?"
"You’re a naturally awakened Psionice, Captain..." Mara answered me, her gaze serious. "And what’s more... You’re a pure human who had never been subjected to any genetic modifications before your birth... Which means by all means, you should have been the same as the older Psionics who were only able to use a specific Psionic ability and nothing else..."
Amber gestured towards me, "Yet... It seems like you don’t have that limit at all, Tera. So... Everything that we know about Psionics could probably be something that absolutely does not apply to you... And anything you do that is the same as us is basically pure coincidence."
...
Ok... That’s... Err... I don’t know how to deal with that fact...
