What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 819: Lifting The Lid

"So tell me! Tell me!! Oh my gosh! I’ve never imagined that I would ever meet a real first generation Psionic! What is it like? How are you different?!" Rosalia demanded, leaning in closer with every word she fired off at me.
My hand went to her shoulders, easing her away gently so her... assets... stopped rubbing up against me.
"Ahem... First off... Please settle down... I’m not all that extraordinary, alright?"
"No way!! How many years has it been since the last natural Psionic awakening?! Years? Decades? Centuries?!"
I doubted it had been quite that long, but I chose to play along with her excitement anyway.
"I get where you’re coming from, sure? But what I’m saying is, I’m just myself, nothing too out of the ordinary."
"I completely disagree," Amber laughed softly from where she stood behind me. "You’re the most unique being in the entire universe to us~"
Quiet, Amber... I care for all of you just as much...
Yet, that wasn’t helping matters at all, you know?
Rosalia kept attempting to close the distance while I kept her at bay with outstretched arms, "So, what type of Psionic are you exactly, Tera?!"
An eyebrow arched from me toward her, "What do you mean by type? Are there... various types of Psionics?"
"Absolutely! Oh wait, it makes sense you wouldn’t know, coming from the Outer Colonies. There are mental Psionics and reality Psionics. So, which are you?"
What? Such a distinction even exists?
I twisted around to face Amber and Mara, hoping they’d fill me in.
Amber appeared just as puzzled as me, but Mara stepped up to clarify, true to form.
"It’s more of an informal way to categorize Psionics, Captain... People use it casually rather than as some strict official label. As I’ve mentioned before, various Psionics excel in different areas. Some shine at influencing minds but struggle with stuff like telekinesis, and others are the reverse."
Yeah, like how Mara outdoes both me and Amber in telepathy, while Amber conjures flames and I... uh... well...
Come to think of it... What category do I fit into?
After all... I handle telepathy too... Sure, I’m not great at it, but that’s probably from lack of practice... And I don’t see myself matching Mara’s prowess anytime soon...
As for telekinesis... I’m not particularly skilled there either? Amber definitely surpasses me in that.
So... What Psionic type am I, really?
Swiveling back, I shrugged at her, "I’m not entirely sure which type I’d classify as... Guess I’m more of a versatile all-rounder?"
She nodded eagerly, "Hmm hmm~ Fascinating, fascinating~ Then perhaps you could demonstrate a bit of what you’re capable of?"
My brow furrowed, "Is that really needed?"
"Definitely! We’re crafting an Exo-Knight tailored just for you! Being a Psionic, we’ll integrate brainwave-based pilot controls over the standard ones! Oh wait!! Hold on a second!!"
In a flash, she bolted from the room, abandoning us with Friederike, who’d been occupied tapping on her personal terminal all along.
Seemed like she was jotting down my words into some kind of digital notes.
I pondered if we’d be left waiting long, but she returned swiftly, the bunny futa lugging a rectangular gadget on a tripod.
She assembled it quickly, positioning one side toward me, then retreated behind it and motioned for me to proceed.
"All set! I’m good to go! Proceed!"
I eyed the gadget skeptically, "Is this like some kind of camera?"
"Ah! Don’t fret, miss Tera! It’s solely for capturing your Psionic signatures! That’ll help us calibrate the Exo-Knight perfectly for you! Completely standard procedure!"
Glancing back at my companions, I saw them giving approving nods.
With my team’s okay...
I shrugged and summoned my halberd once more, shifting it from cube mode to full weapon configuration.
Unsure of the exact data they sought, I stuck to fundamentals: mentally lifting the halberd to whirl around me, then disassembling it into pieces and tossing them about.
Judging by their intense gazes at me and their terminals, I figured I was on track, so I kept at it without overthinking.
The halberd segments reformed into the complete weapon before I reverted it to cube shape, though I kept it hovering nearby as I gradually rose from the floor.
At a loss for more tricks, I lingered airborne a bit longer before descending and shooting Rosalia and Friederike an inquiring look.
They remained fixated on their screens for a solid minute before apparently noticing I’d stopped.
Rosalia fixed me with a sharp stare, "Umm... Are you... performing anything, miss Tera?"
I cocked my head, "What are you getting at?"
"I mean... Our sensors... They’re showing no Psionic energy emanating from you... Despite you obviously employing Psionic powers just moments ago... Actually... It’s detecting Psionic energy from... um... the pair behind you?"
Ah.... Oops...
Let me clarify... I’ve been holding back my Psionic energy to prevent any leaks, as Amber and Mara advised... And I suspect Renata’s drawing on the tiny bits escaping, so the device likely couldn’t register mine because of that...
They must’ve assumed a device malfunction and cranked up the sensitivity to catch the Psionic aura that ought to surround me.
In the process... They ended up sensing the Psionic energy from Amber and Mara.
Clearing my throat, "Ah... My apologies, that’s on me. Allow me to correct it..."
Focusing briefly, I lifted the mental restraint I’d imposed to suppress my Psionic output, permitting it to surge forth unchecked.
Instantly, a heavy burden lifted from me, as if I’d shed an invisible load I’d borne unknowingly until now.
My energy visibly poured out, enveloping my form like a cozy shroud, and I’m certain the moan from Renata wasn’t imagined.
Just from unleashing it, I floated upward for several seconds before settling back down.
And... That’s when everything went haywire.
The monitoring device sparked at its edge before erupting into fire and shattering into debris, the wreckage hurled across the room while clinging to the tripod.
Room screens began glitching, then all switched to crimson error displays at once, just as electric arcs erupted from everywhere, one zapping the floor close by.
Overhead lights blinked erratically, blacking out completely for a second before reigniting, only to stutter off anew.
Simultaneously, my outfit rippled across my skin, reverting to liquid state and sliding down to bare my upper chest momentarily before rushing back to conceal it.
This all flashed by in an instant, and luckily, with everyone preoccupied by the sparking chaos, no one caught that brief reveal.
Did Renata just climax or what?
Clearly, this was turning disastrous, so I hastily reined in my Psionic energy, locking it inside once more.
Normalcy resumed as lights stabilized, though sporadic sparks continued popping around.
Um... What on earth caused that?
Rosalia and Friederike gawked around in stunned silence, while oddly, my crew simply nodded as if this was par for the course with me.
Anyway, priority one... I should probably say sorry for--
"That was incredible, miss Tera!! Could you repeat it?! Pretty please, do it again!!" Rosalia exclaimed.
Friederike exhaled, "We ought to shift this to the Testing Dome... But indeed, we’d appreciate another go, miss Tera. Is that possible?"
Huh? Seems they’re thrilled rather than terrified now...
I suppose I’ll never quite get the science folks...
