Vampire's Slice Of Life Chapter 2 New Life (1)

“Wait, mother, isn’t that name basically just a version of yours?”
“I chose it so that I could feel a deeper connection to him.”
“Come on, Mom, stop making excuses and just admit that you have terrible taste in names.” The young woman, who appeared to be in her twenties, teased while sticking out her tongue. Her mother responded by playfully twisting her ear.
Meanwhile, the subject of their conversation couldn't comprehend a single word. He could only speculate that these two women were members of his family. Because of her striking resemblance to his mother, he wasn't sure who the other lady was; to be safe, he simply assumed she was a relative. Was she an aunt or perhaps a sister? Who could say? There was no point in taking risks.
Time slipped by.
Lith began to gradually grasp the language they spoke and could eventually utter a few words himself. He discovered that his name, Lith, was indeed derived from his mother’s name, Lilith. He also learned that the girl with his mother that day was actually his sister, Lucy, rather than an aunt. Like any typical infant, his first word was “mama” to please his mother, and a few months later, he began to crawl.
“Come to mama, my sweet baby,” Lilith urged, squatting down with her arms wide open. She never imagined her child would be this precious. He rarely cried, only doing so when he was hungry or when he felt lonely in his cradle at night. Seeing how much he hated being apart from her, she gave in and let him sleep with her every night while he nursed.
What deepened her affection even more was the incredible speed at which he learned to talk and crawl. He was only three months old! Despite his age, he was already attempting to stand! It wouldn't be long before he was walking. Her heart melted as she watched him struggle to use the bed for support, trying his best to reach her.
Lith, however, felt nothing but frustration. Three months had passed, and while it was humiliating to soil himself, he forced himself to stay calm. He had to accept it; he was a baby now.
His greatest source of irritation was his lack of mobility. He desperately wanted to move! In his previous life, he had been trapped in a stationary seat on a long airplane journey before he died. Now, he found himself immobile once again. He longed to walk, jump, roll, and above all, travel to far-off places!
“No, Lith, come to your big sister!” Lucy called out from the opposite direction.
Lith faced a difficult choice, but he ultimately picked his mother. Milk was the priority! Cough, cough—what I mean is, my mother would be more upset if I didn't choose her. Right? This definitely wasn't a tactic to butter her up or get closer to her chest. Not at all. Lucy, on the other hand, looked a bit dejected.
As Lith tried to stand, he nearly tumbled over. He was confused by the lack of pain, but when he looked up, he saw his mother holding him. I see, she was ready to catch me. Wait... WHAT? HOW WAS SHE THAT FAST? A wave of panic hit Lith. Realizing that such a reaction wasn't normal for an infant, he quickly started sniffing and tearing up like a regular baby.
Seeing her child on the verge of tears made Lilith feel incredibly distressed, and she vowed then and there to protect him forever. No matter the cost!
Lucy was also about to rush over, but her mother had been too quick. Watching Lith in that state, she made the same silent vow as her mother.
Time continued to pass.
By the age of six months, Lith was already walking. Following the previous incident, his mother and sister worked in perfect harmony to guard him. Lucy would trail behind Lith to catch him if he stumbled, while Lilith would squat with open arms, waiting for him to arrive. He could now understand almost everything they said. However, he still hadn't gathered any information regarding the world he was in or his specific situation. All he heard were the warm, loving words his mother and sister showered him with. It was clear to him that they both cherished him deeply.
By the time Lith turned one, he could speak quite well, though his voice remained high-pitched and his grammar was childish. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't fix his baby accent since his vocal cords weren't fully developed. Accepting this, he only spoke when it was necessary. Currently, he was finishing a meal of his mother's milk.
Once he was done eating, he stood up and navigated his way off the bed. As always, Lilith watched closely to ensure he reached the floor safely. The bed was quite high for him, requiring a small hop to land. Despite him doing this successfully countless times, her anxiety never faded—unlike that first time he nearly fell on his backside and she had to catch him. He still didn't understand her incredible speed, but he chose to ignore it for now. Today was different. He needed to learn about this world. To understand his circumstances, he first needed to learn how to read and write. Only then could he study books on general knowledge and find the answers he sought.
He couldn't exactly ask his mother for a lecture on world history yet, could he? A one-year-old asking such complex questions would be far too suspicious.
Making up his mind, he performed a cute little waddle toward the bookshelf in his mother’s bedroom. He hadn't left this room in an entire year. His mother never took him outside, and he had been so preoccupied with cuddling and nursing that he hadn't really minded. His sister visited often to play, so he never felt lonely.
Standing before the shelf, he pointed at a book he couldn't reach. He looked at his mother and said, “Mama.” Understanding his gesture, she picked him up and moved closer to the books. “My baby, do you want mama to read to you?” she asked. He shook his head, leaving her slightly puzzled. He then said slowly, “Mama. Lith. Read. Book. Himself.” He spoke one word at a time, hoping his meaning was clear.
Lilith remained confused for a moment before asking, “Sweetie, do you want to learn to read by yourself?” He gave a cute nod.
“Oh. I see. But do you already know how?” He shook his head again, and she finally caught on. “Oh, so you want mama to teach you how to read?” This was exactly what he wanted, and he nodded vigorously like a pecking hen. Lilith was genuinely surprised. He was only a year old, yet he wanted to read. What kind of baby does that? She quickly brushed the thought aside, focusing instead on how to teach her only son. He had made his very first request, and as a good mother, she was determined to fulfill it. She never missed a chance to spoil him because of her immense love. In truth, she still spoiled her daughter to this day, but since her son’s birth, he had become the center of her world.
