Vampire's Slice Of Life Chapter 1212: Prison (6)
Previously on Vampire's Slice Of Life...
Meng Yuexin got the shock of a lifetime when she saw how Lith defeated the Laughing Pyre.
Even as a Legendary Rank, the attack she saw was out of the world and out of the norms.
She kept thinking.
The handsome and tall silver-haired man walked towards her.
Meng Yuexin had a hard time composing herself.
"You look like you’ve seen a ghost." Lith commented and shook his head.
"Anyway, let’s get going. I didn’t get the key for the last layer but at least we can go to the next layer."
Something was better than nothing. And given their circumstances, this was a good deal already.
Meng Yuexin had no words. Her mind had stopped processing everything and returning to reality may take her a few more moments.
Lith held her hands and tried descending down.
This time, there wasn’t any interference.
Everything turned dark but eventually, Lith could feel his eyes.
Opening them, he found himself in the same flower field, but something was different.
Something was much much different.
"Eeeik—!" Meng Yuexin shrieked as she opened her eyes.
"What in the heaven’s is this!?!"
Blades.
Hundreds of blades were pointed right at them with a few already about to pierce their necks.
If Lith moved even slightly, he would get a cut.
Meng Yuexin’s startled gesture caused her to get a few cuts already.
There was a sea of cultivators standing all around Lith and Meng Yuexin. Though, they were like statues, their eyes hollow and lifeless.
Lith carefully put the blades away and stood up.
He looked at Meng Yuexin and said, "If we had descended, then these soulless prisoners would’ve killed us immediately."
Meng Yuexin felt her skin crawl. Just thinking about such an outcome sent shivers down her spine.
"Just... just what is this prison? Why is it so scary and not like a proper jail?"
Even Lith was trying to figure out the answer to it.
Why did the Evure God Clan create such a sophisticated prison? What were they trying to do with it?
The initial few layers were somewhat normal compared to the one he was currently in, despite this one possessing flowers and the sun.
"Thinking of such things is pointless. Let’s get going." Lith said and walked away.
This was the end of the information given by the swordsman Meng Haoran. He did say Lith would obtain a key in the next layer to go to another layer. After that, to get out, he would need to fulfil some criteria and voila, he could leave with his sister.
What the criteria was, he didn’t explicitly say.
Also, he knew that at any given point, only two people can leave, so he never considered himself leaving.
Meng Haoran was a good brother. Lith held respect for him for this.
In this day and age, no one would hesitate to kill their own sibling if it meant rising in ranks. But sacrificing oneself for another? Nigh impossible.
"Say... who are you exactly?" Meng Yuexin tried small talk as she moved towards the tree in the sky with Lith.
Now that she had a proper look, Lith was extremely handsome. It was to the point where he would qualify to be anyone’s knight in shining armor or Prince Charming.
Lith did not turn around and kept walking, watching his surroundings. He calmly answered, "The world I come from, it has multiple continents. And each of those continents..."
Since he had nothing better to do, he began explaining about his world to pass time.
Meng Yuexin listened intently. She found Lith’s home world quite interesting.
Eventually, Lith said, "...and my mother rules over all the Vampires..."
"Oh?" Meng Yuexin’s eyes sparkled with interest. "So your mother is a Supreme Rank too like the rest?"
"No. She’s above that." Lith clarified.
"What? A Legendary Rank?" Meng Yuexin was surprised.
From Lith’s words, his world seemed to be a little lacking in terms of overall power compared to the rest of Shen Ze.
He also said the rulers were all Supreme Ranks, so it didn’t cross Meng Yuexin’s mind that his mother might be the one who was a Legendary.
It was surprising, but nothing that Meng Yuexin couldn’t digest.
Lith, however, shook his head at Meng Yuexin’s reply, confusing her.
"What?" She asked.
"A bit above." Lith answered.
"What?" Meng Yuexin didn’t quite get him.
"My mother... she’s a bit above. Above the Legendary Rank, I mean." Lith clarified when he saw how she didn’t get it yet.
"WHAT!?!" Meng Yuexin was shocked out of her wits.
What? What did he mean by above Legendary Rank!? There was someone in a backwater world making it past the ceiling of the Lower Realm!? How!?
In front of Lith, there appeared a steep cliff, at the end of which was a metallic door with a keyhole.
Past the cliff was nothing but mist.
Lith pointed at it and said, "Oh, would you look at that? We reached. Let’s get going now."
"Wait." Meng Yuexin said.
Lith didn’t stop and continued moving. He was done entertaining her.
"Wait. Wait. What do you mean by above Legendary Rank? What the fuck!" Meng Yuexin chased after Lith, but the man had reached the door already.
He inserted the key he obtained from the Laughing Pyre and without a surprise, the door opened.
"Let’s go." Lith pushed the door open and entered.
"Ugh!" Meng Yuexin felt like crap but chased after him nonetheless.
...
It was a long corridor once again.
This time though, there were multiple doors and the overall vibe felt eerie and creepy, as if one shouldn’t be here.
Meng Yuexin put her guard up and carefully looked around. She had quite a cautious personality.
The whistling sound returned. It guided Lith once again.
Lith took a few steps ahead.
Right then.
He stepped on something.
A faint rattling sound of chains resonated in the room, getting louder with each second.
The whistling sound had stopped completely due to this.
"Did you just trigger a trap?" Meng Yuexin couldn’t help but comment.
"No shit, Sherlock." Lith replied while clicking his tongue.
Thankfully this place had no restriction on weapons and he could summon Neo.
Holding the black Destruction sword, he prepared himself for the incoming onslaught.
The rattling intensified and from the other end of the corridor, a dark silhouette with blood red eyes slowly made its way towards Lith.
Lith took on an attacking stance.
A few seconds later.
A three meter tall monster with a rough and scaly body stood fifty meters from Lith. It had the head of a dragon and reptilian body, holding a heavy chain on both hands.
It let out a powerful roar as it saw Lith and Meng Yuexin.
Meng Yuexin’s body trembled but she did not back away, readying herself for whatever was to come.
Lith on the other hand, frowned.
His bloodline resonance flared up and the monster’s eyes slightly dimmed when it looked at him.
However, when it gazed at Meng Yuexin, its eyes began glowing again.
"Come closer." Lith instructed Meng Yuexin, who did as asked without questions.
Lith kept her right behind him and the monster’s eyes dimmed.
Lith’s heart was beating fast internally but on the outside, he was really calm despite knowing those chains could shred him to pieces in one blow.
Taking a step ahead, he decided to enter one of the doors in the corridor.
The whistling sound reappeared, this time with a higher intensity, as if guiding him away from the door.
If there was such a strong reaction before, Lith would’ve trusted it and gone away, but something wasn’t right this time.
Something did not feel right.
His heart was thumping loudly and his body was all riled up.
It was as if,
As if he had just come across someone with whom he shared a deep resonance.
Lith took a step to the side.
The feeling was lowered. Another step aside, and it vanished. The whistling sound returned and kept directing Lith to some other door.
However, he retracted his steps and returned to the door.
His blood churned and his heart began beating faster.
The monster at the end of the corridor was eyeing Meng Yuexin. Lith wasn’t sure how long he could provide her protection. It would definitely attack the moment it found an opening.
Meanwhile, Lith’s body was screaming to meet whatever was beyond this door.
At the back of his mind, he knew he’d regret it if he walked away.
Things would take a disastrous turn immediately from this point onwards.
But...
The whistle.
The whistling sound wasn’t wrong so far. If it was strongly asking him to not go to this door, then didn’t it mean there was danger inside?
Lith was at a crossroad.
Meng Yuexin stayed silent throughout. Her life was tied to Lith’s.
Even though she was a Legendary Rank, she felt seriously powerless in this prison. It was like she had returned to the days where she was a powerless mortal.
Sighing, she patiently waited for Lith’s next instruction.
Lith made up his mind.
He held the door knob and twisted it.
Anxiety flared up and he felt somewhat nauseous from how fast his heart was pounding. The blood was rushing to his head and made him dizzy, but Lith didn’t falter and twisted the knob completely, opening the door.
Darkness engulfed his vision and immediately, everything fell silent and pitch black.
