Vampire's Slice Of Life Chapter 1190: Stage Two
Previously on Vampire's Slice Of Life...
The battlefield of the Smoldering Maw was a scene of escalating chaos.
As the Asura forces continued to suffer heavy casualties, the Evure soldiers pressed their advantage, inching closer toward the base of the roaring volcano.
The commanding generals at the rear could no longer remain idle observers.
A massive, nine-foot-tall general draped in a fur coat leaped onto the frontlines, his heavy club whistling through the air before colliding with the heads of Evure soldiers.
Skulls shattered like popping soap bubbles as a fresh wave of slaughter commenced under his brutal strength.
Watching this from a distance, the Evure generals—specifically Roy and the Sixth Pillar—maintained stoic expressions, looking as though every development was proceeding according to plan.
From his vantage point on the cliff, Lith observed the tactical landscape, noting a bishop move from the black side of the board to systematically threaten his pawns.
Remaining completely composed, Lith commanded, "Fei, move the knight to capture the bishop."
Fei gave a nod of acknowledgment. However, as the pieces shifted, the situation took an unexpected turn.
Rather than engaging the knight, the bishop maneuvered around it. Within a few strategic moves, an additional bishop and knight emerged from the enemy’s side to trap the lone knight.
Lith found this development quite intriguing.
Should Roy charge into the thick of the fray, he would be in significant peril, potentially ending up as just another corpse on this battlefield.
"Order Roy to engage that General," Lith directed.
Fei’s eyebrows shot up in curiosity, wondering about her Master’s true intentions. To her, this appeared to be a blatant suicide mission for Roy.
Nevertheless, she wasn't in a position to challenge his authority. In truth, Roy’s survival held little importance to her; she simply felt it was inefficient to throw away a valuable piece so early in the game.
Fei was oblivious to the corruption tainting the golden threads connected to Roy, which explained her skepticism.
Standing nearby, Sylvia immediately set to work, dispatching the order to Roy via one of her messenger butterflies.
Down on the battlefield, Roy’s face twisted into a deep scowl upon receiving the command.
'What kind of order is this? Is he actually sending me to my death?'
Roy understood his own limits perfectly. While he could handle a single general with ease, this battlefield was crawling with several of them.
Making a move now was incredibly hazardous. He had purposefully avoided the frontlines until now for that very reason.
Had he joined the fight earlier, the tide of the battle might have turned much sooner.
Yet, Roy found himself unable to argue against the directive.
How could he possibly refuse?
His very life was held in Lith’s palm. If he hesitated now, he risked being executed on the spot under suspicion of treachery.
Roy bit down on his lip so hard that his fangs drew blood, the metallic taste filling his mouth.
With his fists tightly clenched, he barked at the Sixth Pillar, "Ensure that no one manages to assassinate me!"
"Go on," the Sixth Pillar replied with a calm tone that offered Roy a shred of confidence.
Unfurling his wings, Roy gave a powerful flap and vanished, reappearing instantly in front of the massive General.
He launched a swift punch aimed at the general's liver, but the burly man was quick to leap backward.
The General was no amateur; he retreated several paces while laughing at Roy with a manic intensity.
"I never imagined the EGC generals would be such absolute idiots."
With those words, the general let out a sharp whistle.
Dark, shadowy figures suddenly materialized across the field, effectively encircling Roy.
There was no need for subtle assassinations when they possessed such an overwhelming numerical advantage.
Five individuals surrounded Roy, every single one of them being a powerhouse at the Legendary Rank.
Among them was a Marquis from the AGC's primary world, a high-ranking noble of great status.
The Asuras were desperate. They were now prepared to exhaust every resource in their possession.
A large portion of their military was still tied up in various other territories. The EGC forces currently in Octavia weren't yet numerous enough to justify the Asuras abandoning all other fronts to focus entirely on this location.
Recalling those troops would mean sacrificing vital economic and strategic hubs—losses that would take decades to mend. Such a setback might strip the Asuras of their status as the second most powerful force in Shen Ze, making a recovery nearly impossible under the weight of the Central Alliance and the EGC.
Regardless, the generals present were more than enough to handle one EGC general. They were well-informed about Roy and the Sixth Pillar, as both factions had embedded spies who provided data on such prominent figures.
Without a word of dialogue, both sides plunged into combat.
The Asura Marquis began weaving hand seals, manifesting a glowing magic circle above Roy that rained down a relentless storm of lightning.
Roy’s wings worked frantically as he dodged the electrical barrage.
A golden spear forged of Light appeared in his grasp. With a rapid spin, he hurled it toward a black-robed general who was busy chanting. Though the man tried to stay hidden, he couldn't escape Roy’s sharp perception.
"Guhhh…"
The spear pierced the figure's chest, breaking his concentration and causing a violent magical backlash.
Roy didn't pause; he reached upward, and another spear of Light materialized in his hand.
Wielding it like a staff, he parried the physical strikes of the nearby generals.
'I can't keep this up much longer! Dammit!'
Roy was forced back, summoning yet another spear to deflect incoming attacks from his blind spots.
From the cliff, Lith watched the spectacle with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Sylvia, begin the second stage."
Sylvia nodded and rose to her feet. She walked to the cliff’s edge and started chanting her incantations.
A few moments passed.
The space above the burning skies of Octavia began to warp as several gray portals groaned open.
The generals engaged with Roy immediately halted their assault, stepping back to witness the phenomenon.
Roy finally caught a moment to breathe and put some distance between himself and his foes.
Drenched in blood from his forehead and covered in deep gashes, he panted heavily while staring at the heavens.
"Fuck!" Roy cursed under his breath. 'If you had a trump card like this, you should have used it from the start!'
The orange sky was reflected in the wide eyes of the generals as countless black specks began to pour out from the gateways.
The burly General couldn't help but mutter, "Son of a bitch…"
