"Therefore, you should weigh your options with great care. When confronting Xuan Zhen, the threat of death is ever-present. Exercise extreme caution if you value your life. In my view, Brother Yang Chen possesses significant talent; contributing to other efforts within Bi Shuangxing would be of great benefit to our race. There is truly no requirement to go out of your way to challenge Xuan Zhen. While we currently lack a more effective strategy to handle him, we wish to avoid any further unnecessary loss of life." The expressions on the faces of Lin Tianyi and Han Bo were heavy with gravity.
Ji Yue Shuang glanced toward Yang Chen, uncertain if he truly grasped the weight of their warning. Xuan Zhen’s power was indeed a terrifying thing to behold.
Nevertheless, Yang Chen couldn’t suppress a light laugh as he replied, "I still wish to encounter Xuan Zhen first. Even if we do not exchange blows, we could at least exchange greetings."
Han Bo and Lin Tianyi assumed that Yang Chen’s mention of a greeting was merely a way to retreat from the challenge while preserving his dignity. They nodded at him, acting as though they understood his intent.
What they failed to realize, however, was that Yang Chen genuinely intended to speak with Xuan Zhen.
They had no way of knowing what kind of expression Xuan Zhen would wear when they reunited at Bi Shuangxing, following their brief parting during their last encounter.
Han Bo spoke up, "Very well, Junior Sister, you and Brother Yang Chen should settle into the city and rest for now. Tomorrow, I shall arrange for a guide to escort you to the East City District to scout the area and assess the current state of affairs."
"That is fine," Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang answered in unison.
With a wave of his hand, Han Bo signaled his subordinates to make the necessary arrangements for the pair’s departure.
Though the residence provided could not compare to the grandeur of the Divine Night Sect, Yang Chen was not one to dwell on such things. He remained there for two days, and on the morning of the third, several weathered old men arrived at the entrance of their dwelling.
"Lady Ji, Brother Yang Chen, I am Guo Huaian. Sir Han Bo has appointed me as your guide to lead you to the East City District." The Boundaryless Elder maintained a respectful posture, waiting with sincere patience.
Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang emerged together, acknowledging Guo Huaian with a nod of their heads.
Ji Yue Shuang had always maintained a cold indifference toward those of lower status, whereas Yang Chen treated all individuals with equal consideration.
"My thanks to you," Yang Chen said, cupping his hands in a polite greeting.
Guo Huaian then led Yang Chen and the accompanying Boundaryless experts toward the city's East City District.
Every district in the city faced a different direction, held different mineral resources, maintained varying garrison sizes, and required unique strategic approaches.
In contrast to the other sectors, the primary defensive force in the East City consisted of Boundaryless cultivators. Although Yang Chen spotted a few Heaven-separated Realm experts, their presence was not particularly large.
"We have arrived at the East City District. Brother Yang Chen, Lady Ji, if you ascend to the top of this wall, the distant mine resources will be visible to you. We are here under the orders of Sir Han Bo to support you both in the struggle against Xuan Zhen of the Spirit God Race." A flicker of dread and a heavy sigh escaped Guo Huaian as he spoke Xuan Zhen's name.
Standing atop the high city wall, Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang looked out over the horizon. Before them lay a vast expanse of various mines.
Along the wall, cultivators of diverse ranks were stationed at their posts. Among them, those at the Boundaryless level were clearly the most elite troops present.
"Take me down to the mines nearby," Yang Chen commanded.
"Follow me and stay close to Brother Yang Chen," Guo Huaian instructed his men.
A group of Boundaryless cultivators followed in their wake, their demeanor toward Yang Chen being neither warm nor particularly cold. Compared to their reverence for Ji Yue Shuang, they held him in much lower regard.
Even Guo Huaian shared this sentiment. Although Yang Chen showed him more respect, the guide was far more cordial toward Ji Yue Shuang, consistently addressing her as 'Lady'.
This was because they were well aware of the identity of Ji Yue Shuang’s master. Since Han Bo had not given Yang Chen any special distinction, their attitude toward him was naturally less favorable.
As for the idea of Yang Chen confronting Xuan Zhen?
If even Ji Yue Shuang was incapable of such a feat, what possible use could Yang Chen be?
Under Yang Chen’s lead, the group of Boundaryless cultivators reached the base of the wall near the mining area and began to survey the grounds.
It must be noted that the shimmering, multi-colored ores within these mines truly captured Yang Chen’s interest and curiosity.
"Are there channels through which we cultivators can acquire these ores?" Yang Chen inquired.
"Provided one earns enough merit, there is a chance to obtain them. However, it is an arduous task. Cultivators like us might toil here for several centuries just to trade for a small amount of ore," Guo Huaian explained honestly.
"Is the allure of these minerals truly that powerful for you?" Yang Chen could not help but ask.
"Indeed, these ores possess immense utility. Should they be sold, Heaven-separated Realm experts at any Star Domain Interface would pay a staggering price for them. Furthermore, the most vital of them is the Liuli Ore, which is capable of assisting us in breaking through to the Heaven-separated Realm," Guo Huaian said.
"So, the Liuli Ore is the primary reason so many cultivators gather here?" Yang Chen asked.
Not every practitioner belonged to the Divine Night Sect. Many were merely peripheral associates who used the sect's reputation but lacked a status anywhere near that of Ji Yue Shuang.
Men like Guo Huaian and his followers were perfect examples of this.
Rubbing his brow, Yang Chen asked, "On that note, when was the most recent time Xuan Zhen struck this mine and caused chaos?"
"It happened at the Earth-made Mine over there. That mine yields materials for extremely rare Formations, which is why the Spirit God Race has been targeting it lately." Guo Huaian pointed the location out to Yang Chen.
Yang Chen observed the massive mine, which was currently shrouded in black smoke. Very few guards remained near the site, and the ground was still stained with blood and littered with corpses, giving off a putrid stench.
"Why is this place left unguarded?" Yang Chen questioned.
"Well, although Xuan Zhen failed to seize it last time after being repelled by the four Heaven-separated Realm experts stationed here, he is certain to return. When he does, the mine will surely fall. It was deemed wiser to concentrate our forces on defending the other mines instead." Guo Huaian explained.
"So, your plan is to simply abandon it?" Yang Chen’s eyebrows rose in surprise.
"That is correct. This position is no longer defensible," Guo Huaian replied.
Seeing the situation, Yang Chen spoke with a serious tone, "Brother Guo, gather the men and bring them here."
"Brother Yang Chen, what are you implying...?" Guo Huaian asked, looking slightly stunned.
"Since I have arrived, I must take action. Guard this mine diligently; the moment Xuan Zhen shows himself, simply send word to me." Yang Chen offered a small smile.
Guo Huaian looked as though he were on the verge of tears, saying mournfully, "Brother Yang Chen, do you realize that if we relocate everyone here and Xuan Zhen appears to cause destruction, the casualties would be catastrophic? You say to notify you, but can you truly resolve the crisis once you are informed?"
