Luo Yan's father has discovered his relationship with Shen Ji Yun. Luo Jin arrives and discusses the situation with his brother, learning that their father caught them in a compromising situation. Luo Jin offers to speak with their father alongside Luo Yan, and they plan to inform their elder brother about the situation as well. Shen Ji Yun is still expected to attend the party, and Luo Yan anticipates needing to inform his uncles and aunts about his relationship soon.

Within the car, SHEN JI YUN gazed out at the unfolding cityscape. Occupying the back seat, he was flanked by his uncle and Uncle Yue, who were seated in the front. Their destination was a renowned upscale hotel, the venue for Luo Yan and Luo Jin's joint birthday celebration.

He suppressed a yawn, his eyelids heavy. Sleep had been a scarce commodity the previous night. How could he possibly rest after his boyfriend's father learned of their relationship? Even now, Shen Ji Yun felt an unsettling flutter in his chest, as if Uncle Wei Tian might materialize at any moment and deliver an unexpected blow.

Beyond this immediate fear, his mind was a whirlwind of worst-case scenarios. What if Uncle Wei Tian insisted they end their relationship? This directive had, in fact, been issued last night. Shen Ji Yun suspected a breakup would have been the inevitable outcome had he not been sent home. He barely recalled his journey back, but upon finally reaching his room, a realization dawned: he was fortunate. Incredibly fortunate that Uncle Wei Tian had dismissed him. It signified that the man was attempting to maintain composure rather than succumbing to rage. Had Shen Ji Yun acted differently, not only might he have faced physical retribution, but Luo Yan could already be on a flight to another country.

He recognized his fortune in having Uncle Wei Tian as a father figure. Even in such a charged situation, the man had considered Luo Yan's feelings. Consequently, Shen Ji Yun felt assured that physical violence wouldn't be employed. His own imagination was merely running wild, conjuring the bleakest possibilities.

Shen Ji Yun shook his head, determined to put the events of the previous night behind him. The impending conversation with Uncle Wei Tian tomorrow was paramount. This thought propelled his mind back to earlier that morning, to the discussion he'd had with his uncle.

=====

Descending to the kitchen, Shen Ji Yun found his uncle preparing coffee. A single glance from the elder man was enough to capture his attention.

"You appear quite unwell," his uncle observed, setting down his mug. "Has a lack of sleep due to excitement for tonight's festivities left you this way?"

"I wish that were the reason," Shen Ji Yun replied, settling onto a bar stool.

The playful glint in his uncle's eyes faded. "Did something transpire?"

With a sigh, Shen Ji Yun recounted the entire ordeal: Uncle Wei Tian's discovery of their relationship upon seeing them outside the gate, the subsequent summons to the study for questioning, and his eventual dismissal.

His uncle's demeanor shifted to one of gravity. He scrutinized Shen Ji Yun intently. "Was he enraged?" A brief pause, then, "No, of course, he was furious. Any father would be. I meant... did he attempt to strike you? Did he inflict any harm?"

"Indeed, his fury was palpable," Shen Ji Yun confessed. "However, he refrained from any physical action, though I sensed his strong inclination to do so."

A wave of relief washed over his uncle's features, though concern remained etched in his eyes. "And what lies ahead? Have you and Xiao Yan devised a strategy?"

"Yan Yan contacted me shortly thereafter. Uncle Wei Tian has requested our presence tomorrow for a formal discussion," Shen Ji Yun stated. "He specifically asked for you to accompany us." He paused, then added, "As for a plan... my primary objective is to ensure our relationship remains unaffected by these events."

Shen Ji Yun resolved to employ every means necessary to safeguard his bond with Luo Yan. He intended to confront Uncle Wei Tian with unwavering honesty, demonstrating the depth of his affection for Luo Yan.

His uncle remained silent for a beat before exhaling softly. "Very well. It seems my presence will be required. Shall I intercede on your behalf? Perhaps offer Brother Luo a favorable opinion of you, highlighting your suitability for Xiao Yan?"

The earnestness in his uncle's expression left no doubt that he would act on this offer if not dissuaded.

"There is no necessity. Your attendance alone will suffice." He omitted the thought that such an intervention might prove counterproductive.

=====

"Are you feeling apprehensive, Xiao Yun?"

Uncle Yue's voice drew Shen Ji Yun back to the present. He glanced towards the front seat, meeting the older man's gaze, which was filled with concern.

"No, Uncle Yue, I am quite alright," Shen Ji Yun responded, offering a reassuring smile.

Shen Ji Yun understood the reason for Uncle Yue's inquiry. The latter had inadvertently overheard fragments of his conversation with his uncle that morning. Promptly inquiring about Shen Ji Yun and Luo Yan's well-being, he had even offered to join them, believing that his and Uncle Yi Mu's presence might subtly demonstrate to Uncle Wei Tian the normalcy of a same-sex partnership.

Shen Ji Yun nearly agreed, but a second thought stopped him. The offer felt a bit too much like coercion. He was determined to persuade Uncle Wei Tian himself. Furthermore, Uncle Wei Tian had only summoned him and his uncle; he didn't wish to provoke further anger from the other party. Consequently, he politely declined Uncle Yue's proposition.

Jiang Yue acknowledged the refusal with a nod, his brows still knitted in concern. He had met Luo Yan's father on one occasion, and the man had appeared respectable. Nevertheless, a sense of unease lingered. He had experienced a comparable situation with Shen Yi Mu, and he truly wished to spare Shen Ji Yun and Luo Yan from enduring identical hardships.

Given the prevailing narrow-mindedness within their society regarding such relationships, his hopes might be too ambitious. Thus, Jiang Yue could only pray that Shen Ji Yun and Luo Yan would at least receive unwavering support from their closest kin.

Lost in his anxious thoughts, the vehicle finally reached its destination.
