The Return of the God Level Assassin Chapter 1323: YAN YAN'S 19TH BIRTHDAY (V)
Previously on The Return of the God Level Assassin...
Following their pleasant boat excursion, Luo Yan had anticipated that Shen Ji Yun would escort him back to the Bai family mansion. However, observing the direction the car was traveling, it became apparent that Shen Ji Yun had a different destination in mind.
"Where are we heading next?" Luo Yan inquired, a mixture of curiosity and amusement coloring his tone. "Surely you're not planning another surprise?"
A subtle smile graced Shen Ji Yun's lips. "Indeed. Another surprise awaits."
Luo Yan let out a light-hearted laugh. "From where are all these surprises originating today?"
"Well, our celebration isn't solely for your birthday today," Shen Ji Yun explained. "Therefore, I must put in extra effort with the surprises."
Luo Yan tilted his head, pondering if there was another significant occasion occurring today besides his birthday. He searched his memory, but nothing specific came to mind. Nevertheless, a persistent feeling lingered, a sense that he had overlooked something rather important. Before he could pinpoint what it was, the car came to a halt.
Shen Ji Yun alighted from the vehicle and traversed to the passenger side to open the door. Luo Yan stepped out, taking in his surroundings. They had arrived at a forest park, the surrounding trees cloaked in darkness. Small lanterns were strategically placed along the path, casting a gentle luminescence upon the ground. Shen Ji Yun extended his hand.
"Ready?" he asked.
Luo Yan readily accepted Shen Ji Yun's offered hand. They commenced their walk, with Shen Ji Yun taking the lead along the illuminated pathway.
The path meandered through the dense trees, its course guided by the soft radiance of the lanterns. Luo Yan observed their surroundings as they proceeded. The park was remarkably tranquil at this hour, devoid of any other visitors. Towering trees flanked them on either side, their branches forming intricate silhouettes against the nocturnal sky. After a few minutes of walking, they paused before a substantial, flat rock situated adjacent to the trail.
Shen Ji Yun effortlessly ascended the rock and turned, extending his hand once more. Luo Yan grasped it and joined him on the elevated perch. From their vantage point atop the rock, the sprawling cityscape unfolded before them. Lights extended limitlessly in every direction, structures, thoroughfares, and bridges shimmering against the darkness. The panorama stretched from one horizon to the other, a vast expanse of brilliance that captivated his gaze. Luo Yan stood transfixed, absorbing the breathtaking vista, the crisp night air caressing his face, and Shen Ji Yun's hand still clasped with his.
"It's magnificent," Luo Yan breathed, his voice laden with awe.
Shen Ji Yun leaned in, his voice a low murmur close to Luo Yan's ear. "You are far more beautiful."
Luo Yan chuckled and met Shen Ji Yun's gaze with his characteristic confident smile. "Naturally. How else could you have fallen for me if I wasn't so captivating?" he quipped, playfully brushing away an imaginary strand of hair from his shoulder.
Shen Ji Yun emitted a soft laugh and drew Luo Yan nearer, encircling him with his arms. "No, it was your personality, your compassion, the way you protect those dear to you. Your striking appearance is simply an added splendor."
Luo Yan nestled his face against Shen Ji Yun's chest. "You're making me blush now."
Shen Ji Yun gently released his embrace, just enough to cup Luo Yan's chin and tilt his face upward, their eyes meeting. The blush coloring Luo Yan's cheeks caught the faint light, appearing soft and rosy. Utterly stunning, Shen Ji Yun thought. He lowered his head and planted a brief, tender kiss upon Luo Yan's lips.
Luo Yan yearned for more, but Shen Ji Yun drew back, retrieving a small, elegant box from his pocket. Luo Yan's attention immediately fixated on it. Shen Ji Yun opened the lid, revealing two rings nestled side-by-side. Fashioned from white gold, they featured slender bands adorned with a subtly wave-like pattern etched along their surfaces. Luo Yan leaned in for a closer look.
Engraved on the inner surface of one ring, a single character was discernible. Yan. The other ring bore the character Yun. The design was understated, lacking any ostentatious embellishments, yet the metal possessed a profound luster indicative of superior craftsmanship. The delicate swirls caught the light from the nearby lanterns, reflecting small bursts of soft white luminescence. Unpretentious, yet undeniably exquisite.
Luo Yan's head snapped up almost instantly. "Brother Ji Yun, these are..."
"I am not proposing," Shen Ji Yun interjected swiftly, sensing the direction of Luo Yan's thoughts. "Not yet. When I do, the occasion will be far more romantic, and the rings will be considerably more magnificent. These are simply couple rings. Promise rings, if you wish to call them that." He paused, his thumb gently caressing the ring bearing Luo Yan's name. "I want you to wear this as a token, a constant reminder that regardless of what transpires, how much time elapses, or how distant we may be, my heart remains devoted to you. I shall cherish you for the remainder of my existence. Each day. Every fleeting moment. I will never falter in my choice of you, nor in my desire to remain by your side. This ring symbolizes that unwavering commitment."
Luo Yan remained frozen, momentarily speechless. His heart felt as though it had been flooded with warmth, filling every void within him. Shen Ji Yun's heartfelt declaration resonated deeply, causing his eyes to well up and his throat to constrict. He blinked rapidly, attempting to maintain his composure, but the tears inevitably fell, tracing paths down his cheeks before he could prevent them. It was not sadness he felt, but an overwhelming fullness, a profound love for the man before him.
Shen Ji Yun tenderly raised a hand, softly caressing the tears from Luo Yan's face. He then leaned closer, bestowing a gentle kiss upon the corner of his eye. "Don't cry, Yan Yan," he murmured.
A soft, tearful chuckle escaped Luo Yan. "Can you put it on me?"
Shen Ji Yun retrieved the ring, adorned with the character 'Yan', from its box. Gently taking Luo Yan's left hand, he slid the ring onto his fourth finger. The white gold gleamed under the light, the delicate wave pattern shimmering against his skin. He held Luo Yan's hand for a beat longer before lifting it to his lips, pressing a tender kiss upon the newly placed ring.
He met Luo Yan's gaze once more. "Happy first anniversary, my love."
