They found their places within the cabin, Luo Yan opting for the window seat with Shen Ji Yun settling in next to him. The boat began to move forward with an automated grace, the driver concealed behind a partition, leaving the intimate space entirely to them. Through the expansive glass panes, the cityscape trailed by in a leisurely, unbroken procession. The luminescence from the towering structures shimmered upon the water's surface, elongating and fragmenting with the boat's gentle undulations.
Inside, the soft radiance from a discreet ceiling light bathed the space between them in warmth. Luo Yan nestled against Shen Ji Yun, his weight leaning into his companion, who responded by encircling his shoulders with an arm, drawing him nearer.
"Do you desire a treat?" Shen Ji Yun inquired.
"Will you be the one to feed me?" Luo Yan tilted his head upwards, his gaze meeting Shen Ji Yun's.
A low chuckle escaped Shen Ji Yun. Without a verbal reply, he selected a strawberry from the nearby platter, coated it in chocolate, and presented it to Luo Yan's lips. Luo Yan obliged, parting his mouth to take a bite.
"Mmm... this is delightful," he murmured, a trace of chocolate remaining on his lips.
Shen Ji Yun's focus locked onto Luo Yan's mouth. He observed the unhurried, deliberate sweep of his tongue across his lips, a sight that parched his own throat. The urge to lean in, to taste the chocolate himself, to ascertain its sweetness, became overwhelming. The distance separating them felt cavernous, and only closing that gap occupied his thoughts.
A knowing smile touched Luo Yan's lips. A mere glance at Shen Ji Yun's expression, the way his eyes lingered on his mouth, was sufficient to decipher his thoughts. Being the considerate boyfriend he was, he intended to assist. However, his mischievous side also wished to prolong the anticipation a little longer.
"Would you care for a strawberry as well?" he asked, feigning innocence.
"Yes," Shen Ji Yun responded, his voice husky, his gaze still captivated by Luo Yan's mouth.
Luo Yan selected a particularly luscious strawberry from the plate. He dipped half of it into the chocolate sauce. Then, taking the unadorned end into his mouth, he held the fruit between his teeth and turned his head towards Shen Ji Yun. His eyes, bright with unspoken invitation, met Shen Ji Yun's. Recognizing the cue, Shen Ji Yun leaned forward and took a bite from the chocolate-coated portion. Their faces drew incredibly close, close enough for Luo Yan to feel the gentle warmth of Shen Ji Yun's breath against his skin.
He bit down on his end of the strawberry. Shen Ji Yun mirrored his action. Their lips brushed as they both took a bite, the fruit yielding between them. A stream of sweet juice and rich chocolate flooded Luo Yan's mouth. Shen Ji Yun's lips pressed against his, a warm, insistent pressure. Luo Yan parted his lips, allowing Shen Ji Yun's tongue to explore, tasting the strawberry, the chocolate, and beneath it all, the familiar essence of Shen Ji Yun.
The kiss deepened, beginning with a languid pace before intensifying, as if neither wished to break the connection. Luo Yan's hand rose to clutch the front of Shen Ji Yun's jacket, anchoring him. When they finally drew apart, both were breathing heavily, their faces still close, the remnants of the shared strawberry long vanished.
"That was..." Shen Ji Yun began.
"Intense," Luo Yan supplied with a grin. "I know."
They met each other's gaze, and simultaneous laughter erupted between them.
Luo Yan once again rested his head on Shen Ji Yun's shoulder. "So, what inspired the boat excursion?"
"Well, since it's your birthday, I wanted to do something memorable," Shen Ji Yun stated. He lifted Luo Yan's hand, pressing a kiss to its back. "I suspected a material gift might not elicit the precise reaction I desired, so I opted for something that could never be taken away." He paused, turning Luo Yan's hand over in his grasp. "Memories."
Luo Yan's heart fluttered at his words. He cherished every gift Shen Ji Yun bestowed upon him, and indeed, his room now housed a small, carefully preserved collection. Yet, this – the boat journey, their shared time, the very memories they were forging – this was what he desired above all else.
He surrendered to the moment, melting back into Shen Ji Yun's embrace. They sat in comfortable silence, enveloped by the cabin's gentle warmth, observing the river's steady flow. The dark, placid water mirrored the lights from the shoreline structures. Ripples distorted the reflections with each slow movement of the boat, elongating them into delicate streaks of gold and white that traversed the surface. The city appeared as an impressionistic painting upon the water, morphing and reforming as they drifted. Luo Yan felt Shen Ji Yun's arm tighten around him, and he pressed closer, savoring the tranquility of the moment.
They remained thus, intertwined, as the boat began its return journey along the river. The city lights continued their silent, rhythmic parade. As the vessel approached the dock from which they had embarked, the first brilliant cascade of fireworks erupted from the distant bank, igniting the sky above in a breathtaking display of color.
One after another, the fireworks ascended, each display unique. Some soared as single streaks only to fracture into vast clouds of gold and crimson. Others split into constellations of light, lingering briefly in the sky before dissolving. A cascade of blue and silver blossoms unfurled in rapid succession, close-set and overlapping like delicate petals. Following this, a verdant wave expanded in protracted, trailing lines, drifting earthward toward the water before vanishing. The vibrant hues mirrored upon the river's surface, which shimmered with every fresh detonation.
Luo Yan observed, his head tilted upward, the luminescence of the fireworks bathing his features. He was so engrossed in the spectacle that he barely registered the gentle touch of lips upon his cheek. Turning his head, he encountered Shen Ji Yun's gaze. Those blue eyes overflowed with an profound affection. Affection directed solely at him.
Shen Ji Yun offered a smile. "Happy birthday, Yan Yan."
