An Zijin tends to the wounds of a mysterious stranger named Yan Yuhan, who was found injured. She offers him kindness and trust, despite his secrecy. Yan Yuhan is touched by her compassion and vows to repay her for saving his life, while An Zijin finds his surname, Yan, strangely familiar.

Sensing his intentions, An Zijin swiftly moved forward, offering her support.

“Are you bored staying indoors?” she inquired, tilting her head. Yan Yuhan responded with a nod.

A shared smile passed between them as they paused by the bamboo railing, gazing together at the distant landscape.

Since Yan Yuhan was still unable to converse, An Zijin, concerned about his boredom, recounted numerous amusing tales from their early days in the mountains.

Her storytelling was vivid, her voice melodious, and Yan Yuhan's eyes held a perpetual smile throughout.

Perhaps this unforeseen circumstance wasn't entirely negative for him.

Downstairs,

Tu Ming, tending to a pot of chicken soup, looked up upon hearing the laughter. He saw An Zijin and Yan Yuhan sharing a lighthearted moment while admiring the view.

“Alas, my dear Zijin, has she been spirited away just like that?” Tu Ming lamented dramatically to Ji Weizhong, clutching his chest.

Ji Weizhong also glanced upward, catching sight of them, and chuckled, shaking his head. “Indeed, it's as if Zijin belongs entirely to you!”

“We grew up together! We were childhood sweethearts! Why doesn't she favor me?” Tu Ming questioned, his voice thick with emotion.

“Aren't you considered brother and sister?” Ji Weizhong retorted, narrowing his eyes. “If you truly desired her, why hadn't you pursued her sooner?”

“Heh heh.” Tu Ming's expression shifted as he adopted a more composed demeanor. “I already knew she viewed me as a brother. Furthermore, her father disapproves of me! Had her family not forced this marriage, why would she have sought refuge in the mountains? I merely feared she might fall for someone of unknown origins.”

Ji Weizhong furrowed his brow, his gaze sharpening. “You just mentioned that young man isn't a bad sort.”

Tu Ming considered this, finding it plausible.

The young man's appearance suggested he was no ordinary individual.

“Ah, what can be done? A grown woman cannot be kept indefinitely! If she finds someone, we cannot interfere. I wonder if Zijin’s father will break that young man's leg should he discover their affections!” Tu Ming mused, a hint of amusement in his tone at the thought of Zijin's potential romantic troubles.

Fortunately, his attachment to Zijin wasn't so profound, allowing him to step back. He merely wished to remain a good brother.

Otherwise, dealing with the formidable Elder An would have been quite the challenge!

Ji Weizhong's eyes flickered. “You merely hope Zijin's romantic journey is fraught with difficulty! What if Elder An actually approves of this young man? That would surely irk you immensely!”

“Get lost!” Tu Ming scoffed, disengaging from the conversation. His attention returned to the simmering chicken soup.

He wasn't particularly invested in the notion of romantic love at that moment; his focus was entirely on the enticing aroma of the soup.

Ah, how delightful it promised to be!

In the evening, the group gathered around the dining table, the delicious and fragrant chicken soup already served.

An Zijin began by ladling a bowl of soup for Yan Yuhan. Tu Ming, observing this, interjected, “Why are you showing him such special treatment?”

“He is a patient,” An Zijin stated plainly, handing the spoon to Yan Yuhan.

Ji Weizhong, giving it no further thought, urged, “Soup alone isn't enough; have some meat too.”

Tu Ming immediately felt overlooked. He cradled his head, groaning, “Can’t you all show me some concern too? I’m quite frail! I’ve been subsisting on greens for days! Zijin, when are we returning to the city?”

“Didn’t we agree to stay a few more days?” An Zijin expressed her reluctance to leave just yet.

“How was I supposed to know there’d be no internet here? My game hasn't been updated in days…” Tu Ming grumbled.

He hadn't been forced into marriage; accompanying An Zijin to the mountains to study medicinal herbs was purely to assist the Crown Prince in his studies!
