Chapter 1: The Return of the Eternal Emperor Soul in the Heart of the Night. Emperor Immortal Sect, Emperor Peak.

A grand, imposing hall stood at the mountain's summit, radiating an atmosphere of supreme majesty. Tucked away behind this magnificent structure, however, sat a lowly and unremarkable cottage that looked entirely out of place in such a prestigious setting. The inhabitant of this humble dwelling was none other than the infamous disgrace of the Lie Tian Heavenly Country, the official son-in-law of the Emperor Immortal Sect—Ye Xuan.

Inside the cottage, young Ye Xuan sat perfectly still on his bed. His eyes were vacant and unfocused, devoid of any spark of consciousness, as he whispered incoherent words to himself, seemingly oblivious to his own speech.

Bang!

The door was suddenly kicked open with force. Zhou Bingyi strode into the room. Upon seeing the catatonic Ye Xuan perched on the bed, she wrinkled her nose in obvious disgust. "Mother mentioned a distinguished guest is arriving today. You are forbidden from leaving; stay locked inside this house."

"Do you understand me?"

Ye Xuan remained motionless.

After a short silence, he murmured under his breath, "After an eternity traversing the ages, sleeping for ninety thousand years, I have finally returned..."

"Changxi, Mu Yun, my dear wives, and my former disciples—none of you shall escape!"

"What are you muttering about now?" The look of loathing in Zhou Bingyi's eyes deepened.

Ye Xuan shook off his daze, suddenly lifting his head to fix a cold, piercing gaze upon Zhou Bingyi.

Startled by his sudden change of demeanor, Zhou Bingyi retorted angrily, "What are you staring at! Did you not hear a word I just said? You are not permitted to set foot outside today!"

"Having someone like you as a brother-in-law is such a stroke of misfortune."

"I cannot fathom what my sister was thinking, ignoring so many brilliant talents only to marry someone as hopeless as you. Aside from being unable to perform any Cultivation, you are nothing but an idiot..."

As her frustration spilled over, Zhou Bingyi grit her teeth, glaring at him. "Why don't you just die instead of clinging to my sister?"

"Son-in-law, good-for-nothing, idiot..." Sparks flickered in Ye Xuan’s eyes as suppressed memories flooded back into his mind.

He was originally the young master of the Ye Family in Wan’an City of Yun Country. At age eleven, he was abducted by the terrifying Sovereign of the Burial Emperor and thrust into the distant Mythical Era, bound within an undying monster’s vessel. Ever since, he had traveled across the heavens and braved countless lethal domains. Following myriad calamities and tribulations, he at last broke free from the Sovereign of the Burial Emperor’s control, rising to dominate the Qian Kun. However, his original body, stripped of its Life Soul, had been reduced to an empty shell.

Last year, he was brought to the Emperor Immortal Sect to wed their Princess, Zhou Youwei—his current wife—making him the sect’s official son-in-law. Throughout his year in the sect, he had been denied any shred of respect, suffering constant humiliation. His standing within the Emperor Immortal Sect was barely that of a common dog and, had it not been for the protection of his wife, Zhou Youwei, he would have perished long ago.

Seeing Ye Xuan’s lack of response, Zhou Bingyi prepared to lash out again but stopped herself with a mocking laugh. "Forget it. Why bother wasting my rage on a fool?"

With those words, she spun around and stormed out, slamming the door hard enough to rattle the entire cottage.

Ye Xuan pulled himself back to reality. Gazing at the closing door, his eyes glinted with a freezing coldness. "An idiot, you say? That moniker shall plague me no longer..."

With his soul successfully reunited with his mortal shell, he now held potential far beyond the reach of ordinary men. Settling back onto the bed, Ye Xuan began to exert his Soul Power. Feeling the familiar resonance of his spirit, he released a sigh of relief. "After ninety thousand years of slumber, though my Soul Power has severely withered, at least half remains intact."

"Wait, my physique..." Ye Xuan was startled, sensing something highly unusual within his own body.

"Could this be the legendary physique that the Sovereign of the Burial Emperor has been hunting for all this time?!"

At that realization, Ye Xuan was paralyzed by shock and uncertainty. After taking his Life Soul, that being had tasked him only with discovering a uniquely mysterious physique. Now, having transcended vast epochs and returned to his body, he realized his own frame was anything but ordinary.

"If this is indeed that rare physique, then I shall surely trample the Sovereign of the Burial Emperor beneath my feet to settle our blood-soaked past!"

Even with his disciplined temperament, Ye Xuan felt a pulse of genuine excitement. "I must find a Qi Condensing Pill and test my limits..."

While Ye Xuan probed his own physical state, Emperor Peak played host to a young man radiating immense arrogance. The youth possessed striking features and wore opulent garments, moving with the distinct grace of nobility, marred only by the foul air of contempt he projected.

Greeting him was a woman in her early thirties with a composed, dignified aura. She was Jiang Jing—Ye Xuan’s mother-in-law, an Elder of the sect, and wife to the Emperor Immortal Sect's Master.

"Auntie," the youth said, bowing toward Jiang Jing.

"Yulong has arrived; come, enter the hall immediately," Jiang Jing replied, eyes crinkling in genuine pleasure as she ushered him inside.

"Auntie, you are far too kind. I have come today specifically to visit Youwei," Zhao Yulong explained while bowing again before entering the main hall.

"You have chosen a poor time, Yulong. Youwei is currently in deep seclusion, striving to break into the prince level," Jiang Jing said, wearing a warm smile.

Zhao Yulong looked genuinely impressed. "It is no wonder Youwei is the unrivaled goddess of the Lie Tian Heavenly Country. Barely eighteen and already attempting to cross the threshold into the prince realm."

"You are too modest, Yulong. Youwei’s aptitude is certainly inferior to yours. Having exited your own seclusion, surely you have already ascended to the prince realm," Jiang Jing added, her eyes bright with admiration.

Zhao Yulong sighed heavily. "I entered seclusion specifically for that purpose, but upon emerging, I learned that Youwei had already married. It is the greatest regret of my life."

A complicated shadow flickered across Jiang Jing’s face at the mention of the marriage. Zhao Yulong was a prominent suitor for Zhou Youwei. As the Saint Heir of the Luotian Sacred Land, with a father as Sect Master and an influential mother who was an Elder, he held immense power. The Luotian Sacred Land dwarfed the Emperor Immortal Sect in both influence and strength. Zhao Yulong and Zhou Youwei had long been considered an ideal pair, and their families had nearly finalized a formal union. Years ago, Jiang Jing had favored him deeply, only for Youwei to insist on marrying the pathetic Ye Xuan—a move that pushed the two sects to the brink of hostility. The memory still made Jiang Jing’s blood boil.

Noticing the shift in Jiang Jing’s demeanor, Zhao Yulong offered a cold, internal sneer but maintained an air of calm. "Since Youwei is unavailable, why not bring out her husband to greet us instead?"

The suggestion only fueled Jiang Jing’s suppressed irritation. Having Ye Xuan appear would be an absolute embarrassment to her. She spoke stiffly, "Unfortunately, he is also currently in seclusion."

"Oh?" Zhao Yulong feigned surprise. "I have heard that Youwei’s husband is a born fool who cannot even cultivate. He is sequestered as well?"

Jiang Jing found herself at a loss for a retort.

"Mother, I have already spoken with that idiot, Ye Xuan," Zhou Bingyi interjected as she walked into the room. The air instantly turned suffocatingly awkward.

"Zhao Yulong?" Zhou Bingyi noticed his presence and frowned at her mother. "Mother, is he the honored guest you were expecting?" She hid her disdain for Zhao Yulong poorly, as she detested him even more than her brother-in-law.

"Sister Bingyi, are you talking about Ye Xuan, that idiot husband of yours?" Zhao Yulong seized the opening.

Zhou Bingyi scoffed. "I have never recognized him as my brother-in-law."
