The Legend of Futian Chapter 2962 - Commoner

Previously on The Legend of Futian...
Ye Futian enjoyed a tranquil moment fishing by the lake with Xia Qingyuan, embracing a fleeting sense of peace in their lives. Meanwhile, far away, Ye Futian sought guidance from his master about breaking free from the constraints of time, receiving profound insights into existence and the nature of being. Tension brewed in the world, as ominous signs heralded the imminent arrival of the Immortal Sovereign, which could alter the balance of power. In Qingzhou, the Cao Clan convened to discuss a potential marriage alliance for Cao Yuan with Hua Nianyu, a move that could strengthen their influence over Qingzhou Academy.

Early in the morning, snow descended upon Qingzhou, draping the entire region in a shimmering silver veil.

Upon entering the courtyard, Ye Futian’s vision was greeted by a world of white. In the center, Hua Nianyu was busy crafting a snowman and had even convinced Hua Jieyu to assist her, while Xia Qingyuan watched them with a smile from the side.

Witnessing this scene, Ye Futian felt no winter chill; instead, a profound warmth radiated from the depths of his soul.

The beauty of an ordinary existence can only be truly appreciated by those who have navigated the heights of prosperity and the hardships of life before returning to a simple life.

“Brother-in-law, who do these look like to you?” Hua Nianyu asked, grinning broadly. She had fashioned three snow figures. A male figure stood in the middle, flanked by two female figures. Clearly, they represented Ye Futian, Hua Jieyu, and Xia Qingyuan.

“What are those things?” Ye Futian teased, a smirk playing on his lips.

Hua Nianyu puffed out her cheeks like a pufferfish, feeling that mere snowmen could never truly capture the elegant temperament of her brother-in-law and sister.

“Let’s take a stroll through the city to admire the snowfall.” With a gentle smile, Ye Futian began to walk forward, his boots leaving a trail of prints in the fresh snow.

Without a second thought, Hua Jieyu and Xia Qingyuan followed after him.

Leaving the yard behind, they arrived at Qingzhou Academy, where many young students were gathered. As the group approached, the youths stepped aside to make a path and called out, “Brother Ye.”

Ye Futian gave a cheerful nod. Suddenly, a cold gust of wind whipped through his long hair. Hua Jieyu immediately stepped behind him to drape a white coat over his shoulders. With a slight shrug, he wrapped the garment tightly around himself while Xia Qingyuan moved to the front to adjust his collar.

“Wow...” the young boys on the sidelines whispered in awe. They watched Ye Futian with expressions of joy and innocence, unable to hide their envy.

Ye Futian was quite well-known within Qingzhou Academy because of his good looks, his sense of humor, and his tendency to boast.

Once the group had moved further away, one student remarked, “See that? What’s so bad about being commoners? Isn’t Brother Ye an ordinary person? Yet look at him, surrounded by such beautiful women. He’s incredibly lucky!”

“Have you looked in a mirror lately?” a girl retorted with a look of disdain. The boy’s face instantly fell. It was undeniable that Ye Futian possessed a stunning appearance.

“Considering Brother Ye’s temperament, he doesn't seem like an average man. He might not possess the power to turn his eyes into the sun and moon or grasp the stars in his palms, but as the disciple of Mr. Hua, he won't remain an ordinary person forever,” the girl added.

Her voice then dropped to a soft murmur as she added, “Who can say? Perhaps that part about his eyes becoming the sun and moon might actually be true.”

“Don’t tell me you’ve developed a crush on Brother Ye?” a boy teased. The girl’s face flushed a deep red all the way to her ears.

“Well, if you compare your looks to Miss Jieyu, ahem...” The boy continued to tease. Though the girl was young and pretty, she couldn't hold a candle to Hua Jieyu.

“Do you have a death wish?” the girl snapped, glaring at him.

“Fine, I’ll shut up!” the boy said. “Didn’t you see that Brother Ye needed a coat just to step outside? Because he fears the cold, he must be a normal person. I’ll admit his looks and temperament are remarkable, but it doesn’t change the fact that he is just an ordinary person. It’s obvious, isn't it?”

“Maybe he’s just acting this way because of an injury?” the girl suggested.

“Oh, wow!” The boy stared at her and whispered, “She’s completely lost her heart to him!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he spun around to flee while the girl manifested a sharp sword will and chased after him.

Because of them, the winter at Qingzhou Academy felt much more vibrant.

As they left the academy and walked the city streets, Ye Futian drew many eyes since many local citizens recognized him. They offered warm greetings and showed great respect toward Hua Jieyu and Hua Nianyu.

The entirety of Qingzhou was buried under a layer of white. Ancient trees were encrusted with hoarfrost, transforming their branches into silver displays of magnificence.

Ye Futian wandered aimlessly through the snow. His stride slowed significantly, with each step forward taking a long duration. Hua Jieyu and the others did not disturb his peace, following silently behind him.

At one point, Ye Futian’s form began to turn translucent, as if he might vanish into the air at any moment.

Xia Qingyuan grew concerned, fearing that something might happen to him.

She glanced at Hua Jieyu, who stood at her side, but Jieyu shook her head, signaling her not to interfere. Possessing a higher level of Cultivation, she understood that Ye Futian had been in a constant state of meditation recently.

Ye Futian’s body shifted from a solid state to an insubstantial one before gradually becoming tangible again.

“I am the Heavenly Path; I am who I am.” A voice echoed within his mind. In that instant, he radiated a transcendent temperament like a god or an immortal, only to suddenly shift back into a commoner with no detectable aura.

Ultimately, he returned to his previous state, continuing his search for his true self.

Ye Futian wore a faint smile and remained silent as he walked on, leaving a trail of footprints in the snow. Passersby watched him with curiosity.

They found his behavior quite strange and wondered what he was doing.

...

The atmosphere at Qingzhou Academy was lively. The falling snow excited the youths, who were all playing together in the drifts.

However, the sounds of their laughter eventually faded. Many of them froze for a moment before turning their heads in the same direction.

A sudden silence fell over the area as every eye fixed on the edge of the snowy field. A figure dressed in black had abruptly appeared.

The man was burly and gallant, possessing a striking temperament. One could tell at a glance that he was extraordinary, as he radiated a domineering aura. People instinctively lowered their heads when their eyes met his, feeling nervous in his presence.

“Who is that?” the crowd whispered.

The muscular man cast a brief look toward Qingzhou Academy and stood motionless in the snow, appearing to wait for someone.

The falling snow slowly turned his black robes and hair white.

Yet, he remained as still as a statue, rooted to the spot despite the freezing gale and snowstorm.

“Who could he be waiting for?” The teenagers grew more curious by the second. After some time, another figure approached the academy through the snow. It was a handsome man in white—Ye Futian.

The moment Ye Futian saw the silhouette, his spirits lifted, and he hurried toward the man.

The hearts of the Qingzhou Academy students raced at the sight. Had that man come specifically for Brother Ye?

Was Brother Ye not an ordinary person after all?

“You’ve finally arrived,” Ye Futian said, coming to a stop in front of Yu Sheng.

“Yeah.” Yu Sheng nodded, remaining quiet.

“Walk with me,” Ye Futian requested. He turned and began to stroll, with Yu Sheng following closely as they wandered through the grounds of Qingzhou Academy.

Watching this from the academy grounds, Hua Fengliu felt a sense of nostalgia.

It felt as though time had reversed. Many years ago, two young men used to walk through Qingzhou Academy in exactly this way.

The two reached an old tree and stopped. This location had been their residence back when they were students at the academy. There was a tree there that they used to lean against while resting.

Ye Futian paused before the tree and sat down in the snow, leaning his back against the ancient trunk.

Yu Sheng did the same, sitting beside him and leaning against the tree.

Snowflakes continued to drift down from the sky. The world was silent as neither man spoke. They sat in stillness, letting the white snow accumulate on their shoulders.

Who could have guessed that the two figures sitting so quietly were actually the avatar of the Heavenly Path and the Devil Emperor who commanded the Devil Realm?
