The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse Chapter 1791: Return of the Asura Race (18)
Previously on The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse...
"What the fuck just happened?" Drakhar, the patriarch of the Drakhar Ancient Family, asked, staring at the crack in the air where the Primordial had retreated with a stunned look on his face.
All six of them were overjoyed when the third Primordial appeared.
After all, to them, whenever a Primordial appeared, Paragon was getting closer to being defeated. It was a fact, and they could already tell from just how desperate Klaus became whenever a Primordial arrived.
So when this one appeared, and he asked Matthew to fight her, it was at the back of their minds that one way or another, she would defeat Matthew and finish what she had come here to do.
But that didn’t happen, and looking at Matthew’s back now, the six patriarchs felt real fear.
They didn’t know what Matthew had done that caused the third Primordial to run, but they could tell that whatever he had done was lethal even to Primordials.
"Matthew, looks like you will have to wait a little while for a worthy opponent," Klaus said, and Matthew nodded.
He didn’t know what had happened to make his opponent run that fast, but he knew, somehow, his Sword Dao was more lethal than he’d given it credit for.
Thus, Matthew jumped back into the battle and started killing.
Paragon retreated back to the cage and asked, "Well then, are you willing to sign the contract now, or do you wish to watch your men die? After all, I plan to send the next Primordial their way, and well, we both know how that will end."
Paragon spoke with a smile on his face, but the insidious air lacing his tone said it all. He wasn’t joking around, and the six patriarchs could tell that.
However, there was something they had been warned about, and that thing was preventing them from siding with Paragon, even if that would save their men.
"I know you guys are evil men, but I never expected this level of coldness from you. While your men are putting their lives on the line to save face for you, instead of doing the right thing to save their lives, here you are, acting all high and mighty."
Already, people across the universe watching had started to ask why the six patriarchs were just standing there while their men died one by one.
It just didn’t make sense to them.
However, since they had no idea a cage had been used to trap the six of them, people could only speculate and say that maybe they were waiting for more dreadful opponents, since the battle required them to fight opponents far too dangerous for ordinary warriors.
"Very well. As long as the six of you stay put, we will figure out another way to handle this. Just know that if we succeed without you six, then your status as Ancient Families will be stripped by me once this battle is over."
Paragon turned away, but he kept his attention on the six patriarchs. He really expected them to accept his offer and sign the contract. However, here they all were, minutes later, and they still remained stubborn.
"CRACK!"
Suddenly, another crack formed in the air, and from within, a powerful pressure descended on the battlefield. Just then, a pale figure clad in dark armor, his face completely covered by a Transformer-like helmet, walked out holding a long sword in his hand.
Just as he appeared, the lady who had retreated also appeared beside the armored Primordial and grinned...
"I am back, Paragon."
Paragon, whose expression had already turned ugly due to the pressure he sensed from the armored Primordial, looked at the lady and replied, "So you ran from a mere Pseudo-Primordial, and for what? To go call your big brother?"
Paragon smirked. "Have you no shame? A whole Primordial running from someone who isn’t even close to becoming one. If you ask me, I’d say even a bug has more spine than you, little bitch."
Her expression turned ugly. "Big brother, kill him for me."
The armored Primordial didn’t address Paragon.
Rather, he turned and looked at a few people on the battlefield. Some of Klaus’s wives were known to be accomplished swordswomen.
Most especially, the one whose gaze lingered on the longest was Aoi, who held his unblinking gaze, showing no fear toward this man.
Luckily, the armored Primordial didn’t focus much on her. When his gaze landed on Matthew, he stopped and asked,
"State your name and your mastery level."
Matthew crossed his arms over his chest and replied, "What is there to even ask about that? From where I stand, you are just another obstacle in my way, so prepare to be cut down."
"Arrogant, but I like that. I am going to enjoy cutting you down."
The sword in his hand trembled, and the power of a Sword Dao was activated, filling the air with sword intent. Matthew showed no reaction. Instead, he also activated his Sword Dao, and the two clashed.
On one side, a fiery domain formed from sword intent moved like a raging lion, intent on ending the battle before it even began.
However, it met a domain of ice fashioned into thousands of swords, each filled with the power of Matthew’s Sword Dao. The moment they crashed into each other, everyone felt a terrifying wave of sharpness wash over them.
Matthew moved, and the armored figure moved as well.
The next second, they clashed, and the power of their Sword Daos started to cancel each other out. Klaus, who stood on the side, knew it wouldn’t be long until a winner was decided.
He hoped it would be Matthew since he was his friend, and his win would boost morale.
However, they now had to defend against one more Primordial whose gaze had turned toward the six patriarchs.
Klaus immediately felt a sense of terrible foreboding when he saw the lady looking at the patriarchs.
Right now, he could tell the chaos beasts might have the heavens’ permission to use their Primordial Qi in this universe, but the laws were still preventing them from sending more Primordials.
Unlike this universe, which restricted warriors from becoming Primordials, the outside realms had no such restrictions, and so he could already tell there were more to come, but it would take time.
However, if the six patriarchs were freed, things would turn ugly.
His fear came true when the lady suddenly teleported and arrived before Paragon in a flash. Her spear stabbed forward, aiming to pierce right through him...
However, Paragon evaded, only for him to feel a chill run down his spine.
