The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse Chapter 1688: Answers
Previously on The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse...
The Six-Tails Elder Mantis had never, even in its wildest dreams, expected that the ones who would bring it down would be four beasts and a human who was only a demigod.
But as its body slowly sank into the water, its soul fractured and its body scorched and melting even beneath the sea, the realization finally struck it.
It had been defeated in what could only be considered five seconds of confrontation. It had remained in seclusion for thousands of years and had only just emerged.
By sheer luck, the moment it came out of seclusion, five elementals with powerful bloodlines had presented themselves before it.
It needed those snacks to nourish its soul, so when General Nura and her team tried to escape, it came after them, hoping to get its claws on them.
Never had it expected Kaden to appear and destroy everything it had spent millions of years building. The soul attack from the Soul Fury Forbidden Flame dealt devastating damage to it, while the Chaotic Nirvana Forbidden Flame amplified its fury and scorched its flesh.
Now, as it sank deeper into the water, regret and anger surged through its body.
But then again, could it afford to be angry right now? After all, it was sinking into the most dangerous sea in the Elemental Garden. If anything, it should focus on surviving the horrors that dwelled within.
It had travelled far from its territory, after all.
But while the Six-Tails Elder Mantis was sinking with regret, Kaden and his teammates found themselves back in the western region of the Three Elemental Sea.
Jane had moved them far away from the danger and brought them to safety. With her being a Universe God now, traversing several light-years in the blink of an eye was as simple as drinking water.
They had also brought General Nura and her team, whom Pickle Berry had already begun healing. She could cast healing magic, so she was tending to their injuries.
Meanwhile, Kaden, the Primordial Flame Spirits, his three wives, and Franklina engaged in a fierce battle against several God-Tier and Supreme-Tier beasts that just couldn’t take the hint.
The battle lasted no more than thirty minutes before every last beast was killed.
After the final beast fell, Kaden took everyone into the Demon Bead, leaving it floating in the lifeless expanse of the Elemental Sea.
There was no danger nearby, so he left it there. At the first sign of danger, it would be pulled into the void, escaping any threat long enough for him to return from the Demon Bead and put it away.
The moment they were finally out of harm’s way, many breathed a sigh of relief.
The dangers of the Three Elemental Sea were far greater than they had imagined. That realization only deepened after they encountered the Six-Tails Elder Mantis.
They could all sense that it was much stronger than any of the other beasts they had fought, making them dread the day they would encounter another one.
Of course, they also knew Kaden had a trump card, but no one knew what they would face next or how difficult it would be to use that attack again.
Now, inside the tower, everyone turned their attention to the five people they had rescued. None of them had passed out, so as Kaden’s group looked at them, they returned the gaze.
The injury on General Nura’s shoulder had completely healed, as had most of the life-threatening injuries the group had sustained. They were now capable of talking and even fighting, albeit not at the same level as before their injuries.
Finally, Kaden spoke...
"My name is Kaden, and these are my friends. May I know who you all are?"
General Nura answered, "My name is General Nura, and these are my teammates: Auren, Gorbag, Jaden, and Nilla."
Kaden looked at the people beside General Nura and nodded. He could tell they shared a deep bond, so he didn’t focus much on exploring their team dynamics. Instead, he moved on to the most important matter.
"We’re a little lost, so if you can point us in the right direction, we’d be very grateful. That said, we’d like to know where you came from, as that will help us determine where we need to go next."
General Nura studied Kaden for a few moments before sighing. "We are from Gaukin City, serving under the rule of Lord Arshan..."
"Hold on a minute. Did you just say Lord Arshan, as in Emperor Arshan?" Franklina cut her off. However, instead of being angry, General Nura seemed pleased by the way Franklina referred to the man they served.
"It appears there are still some who remember Lord Arshan’s former glory."
"Well, I do. But didn’t he vanish several years ago, with no one knowing where he had gone or when he would return?" She frowned. "To think he ventured here. I suppose we don’t look so crazy anymore."
"Ventured here?" General Nura narrowed her eyes. "What kind of nonsense are you spouting? Lord Arshan didn’t come here of his own accord. He was betrayed by his wife, just as most of us ended up here."
Kaden furrowed his brows hearing what General Nura said. For a moment, he did his best to hold back the urge to laugh. However, he failed miserably, letting the laughter escaped him anyway.
Everyone frowned as they watched him laugh as though he had just heard the greatest joke in history. Unable to contain his anger any longer, Auren asked, "Mind telling us why Lord Arshan getting betrayed is such a happy thing?"
Kaden laughed for a couple more minutes before finally calming down.
"You know, karma is indeed a bitch. Who knew that bastard would also get the short end of the stick after betraying me?" Kaden laughed again before Pickle Berry asked,
"Big Brother, do you and this Lord Arshan share some past history?"
"Yes, Pickle Berry. During the Blood Era, he was a general of the Elemental Race and one of my closest friends in that race. He played an active role in the battle against the Chaos Beasts, so you could say he was one of the few warriors outside the Asura Race I trusted enough to watch my back.
"Well, at least I trusted him. But he and some of the people I fought side by side with, after learning how we Asuras grow stronger, chose to change their minds when the Heavens Court came after us, claiming we used innocent blood to cultivate.
"Arshan was one of the few people I counted on to stand by me, but I guess he was a coward. So he chose the easy way out."
The expressions on General Nura and her teammates’ faces darkened with anger. They didn’t like how Kaden was speaking ill of their lord, who had once been the Emperor of the Elemental Race.
"Big Brother, do you think he would remember you?" Jane asked.
"Oh, he will. After all, before he narrowly escaped with his life back then, I gave him a very stern warning." Kaden took a deep breath before saying, "I promised him that the next time we met would be the day he died. He betrayed me, and for that, killing him is exactly what I’ll do, even if billions of years have passed."
The air between them became tense.
