The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse Chapter 1481: Power of the Star Monarch
Previously on The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse...
Millions of years ago, when the Star Monarch visited the Jade Nest, the God Beast Beyhos was merely a Nirvana stage Beast. She wasn’t even an Immortal, a fact suggesting she wasn’t significant enough to attract the attention of the Jade Ant Queen.
This obscurity is precisely why she and a few others remained unharmed when they concealed themselves in a cave during the Heavenly Court’s coordinated assaults on the Jade Ant Queen.
However, despite the harrowing nature of those battles, the confrontation between the Jade Ant Queen and the Star Monarch was the one that resonated most profoundly with them all.
On that fateful day, she had just survived an ambush by another Calamity Beast and was struggling back to safety when a shockwave swept over her.
It was the day she witnessed the Star Monarch, and ever since, his visage had been indelibly etched in her memory. Indeed, even after a millennium, his face remained vividly recalled.
Naturally, remembering him was inevitable; after all, it was because of him that her bloodline had awakened.
The Star Monarch was renowned for many attributes, one of which was his innate ability to unlock the latent potential within beasts and monsters. His mere presence irrevocably altered the destinies of countless creatures, and Lady Beyhos was a prime example.
Provided his bloodline resonated with a being, he invariably left an indelible mark upon their existence, one way or another.
Therefore, the notion of forgetting such an individual was practically inconceivable.
What she had never anticipated was that the very first human she encountered after the war concluded with the Heavenly Court would turn out to be the Star Monarch himself.
Her immediate inclination was to dismiss his claims as falsehoods. Yet, this thought was abruptly superseded by another, causing her eyes to narrow slightly.
’How could he possibly know my name, my bloodline, and even the intricacies of how Calamity Beasts ascend beyond the rank of True God?’ Crux, for certain, possessed no knowledge of the first two points.
Thus, even if I were the one to divulge the evolutionary path of a Calamity Beast to him, he wouldn’t have discovered my name or bloodline.’
This deduction indicated that Klaus was far from ordinary, and as someone who had experienced her bloodline’s awakening simply by beholding a man, she recognized a kernel of truth in Klaus’s assertions.
“You find my words difficult to accept, do you not?” Klaus inquired, a subtle smile gracing his features.
“I would likely share your skepticism, Lady Beyhos. While I am tempted to laugh and declare it all a jest, I am, in fact, the Star Monarch, and I require your assistance.
Though, perhaps 'assistance' is a grand term. It is more akin to a mutual need for survival in the weeks ahead.”
“If you are indeed the Star Monarch, then prove it to me.”
“First, enlighten me about your understanding of the Star Monarch, and subsequently, I shall furnish my proof,” Klaus replied, leaning back in his chair with an air of utter relaxation, as if unconcerned by the presence of a deity.
The sole occasion he had neared the precipice of death during the Star Monarch era was when confronting the Jade Ant Queen. In the past, whenever he sensed a connection with a beast, their interactions often became remarkably amicable, facilitating easier discourse.
Consequently, he harbored no apprehension towards Lady Beyhos. If anything, his objective was to glean further insight into those who had orchestrated the present predicament and, if feasible, to enlist her aid. By soliciting details about the Star Monarch, she would necessarily reveal the source of her knowledge.
Klaus had long harbored a suspicion that his resonance with beasts tended to foster a more civilized demeanor, thereby simplifying interactions. The more they conversed, the less resistance they exhibited, until ultimately, it dissolved entirely.
“From my knowledge, the Star Monarch was an entity possessing a unique affinity with beasts, which led him to subjugate numerous creatures to serve his purposes.”
“Subjugate?” Klaus arched an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Allow me to surmise, this information was conveyed to you by someone.”
Lady Beyhos inclined her head in affirmation.
“May I inquire as to their identity?”
She let out a sigh before beginning her explanation, “Ten thousand years subsequent to the sealing of the Jade Nest, an individual approached four of us with an proposition. He pledged to aid us in attaining godhood, with the stipulation that upon the unsealing of this realm, we were to eliminate every human interloper. Afterward, he promised to transport us elsewhere and facilitate our ascent to Supremacy.
We assented, and thus, he commenced dispatching aid at intervals of one hundred thousand years. On one such occasion, I sought information regarding the Star Monarch, and he provided this treatise.”
Retrieving a pristine tome, she presented it to Klaus.
He made no move to open it.
Placing it against his forehead, every word assimilated into his mind, a faint smile gracing his features.
Within the book’s pages, the Star Monarch was depicted as a malevolent figure, one who enslaved beasts and manipulated them as mere pawns in his grand design. The text included lurid depictions of beasts under the Star Monarch’s dominion being slaughtered while executing his commands.
The most disquieting element was the exhibition of thousands of images chronicling the final conflict between the Star Monarch’s warriors and the forces of Heaven.
Upon witnessing this, his eyes narrowed perceptibly, a palpable wave of killing intent radiating from him.
"Oh, they are quite audacious, incredibly audacious." Klaus clenched his fists, his teeth gritted. "My fury knows no bounds; I am deeply insulted right now."
Naturally, he was incandescent with rage.
Nevertheless, suppressing his anger, he turned to Lady Beyhos. "I require you to examine something minor." Klaus pressed his index finger to his forehead, extracting a fragment of his memories, which he then dispatched towards Lady Beyhos.
"Peruse it yourself and ascertain if the individual they depicted was indeed the person I was... and am."
A flicker of hesitation crossed her features. Yet, driven by her voracious curiosity about the Star Monarch, she accepted the memory, eager for more insight.
Within the memory, it unfolded how Klaus had encountered some of his beast companions, the extent of his assistance in their transformation into formidable powerhouses, and their subsequent role in aiding his return.
He did not present a one-sided narrative; the less favorable aspects were also revealed. These recollections showcased instances where they faced ambushes numerous times, and occasions where his beast companions, defying his counsel, chose self-sacrifice to ensure his survival.
The anguish, the psychological scars, and the spectrum of emotions he endured were laid bare. Consequently, by the memory's conclusion, Lady Beyhos perceived that she had been misled.
As a deity, discerning falsehood was second nature to her. The memory Klaus provided was utterly genuine, leading her to realize that all her preconceptions about the Star Monarch were fabricated.
"You see, my initial intention was to end your existence simply out of fear that you might subjugate me, as foretold in their records. However, now enlightened as to your true nature, a singular question arises: can I place my trust in you?"
A smile touched Klaus's lips. Instead of a direct response, he posed a counter-question: "Have you ever encountered the legend of the Three True Calamities?"
Lady Beyhos's eyes narrowed. "As a Calamity Beast, naturally, I am familiar with them. Yet, what is your interest in them? And choose your words with caution, if you please."
