The Kingmaker System Chapter 758 - 757. Better Sooner Than Later (3)
Previously on The Kingmaker System...
Issyrha sighed deeply once again glancing at the setting sun. The dusk was approaching and Issyrha couldn’t help but feel relieved that it did because she felt the sun wouldn’t set any time sooner. She was frustrated beyond words.
The reason for her frustration was presently standing before her, his expression resolute as it was when he first sought her out.
"It’s time." He spoke, reminding her as if she hadn’t realised that already.
"I know, I see it." She suppressed the urge to beat the hell out of him right then and there.
It was in the afternoon that this insolent brat- as she preferred to call him- came looking for her to make a request of taking him to Edrisyl.
She had intimidated him with her Presence enough to nearly put him in a serious condition but Kai’s healing cured him quickly enough for him to try again.
He’s been pestering her for hours.
"I need to go now! You know Ocean is not in a good condition! He’s a child and in that unfamiliar place! I need to go! Please, take me there! I beg of you, please!"
Issyrha clamped her ears while he kept urging, though politely but it was irritating enough.
She tried her best to ignore him as he had just aroused from getting healed but the urge to knock him out was overwhelming and Kai could see that which was why he kept looking in between both of them anxiously.
"D-Davian, wait a moment." Kai spoke up, "I-I mean, Master did say there are people to take care of him, right? So, you don’t need to rush."
Issyrha felt as if the young Dragon adopted by their youngest Supreme Aqua Dragon was the older one for the present situation considering the human young man was persistent.
"Ocean would never say if anything is amiss, he is the kind to always downplay his actual condition to not worry others, how could you trust his word that he’s fine?" Davian argued.
"He sounded like a child and said he had no mana that means he’s basically in the form of a human child there, do you understand what that means? He could get in any danger and none of us are there!"
Issyrha felt a vein starting to bulge from her forehead as she kept trying to push Davian’s voice out of her ears but soon enough, her patience hit its limits and she faced Davian. The air around her turning to smoke as the frigid mana burst through.
"Shut up!"
Both Davian and Kai sealed their mouths shut at once.
"It is night time on Edrisyl right now. You want me to bring you there while Ocean and others are asleep. Do you realise how juvenile that sounds?! Don’t you humans follow etiquette while visiting others or have you abandoned it, you insolent wretch?!"
Davian’s mouth opened and closed after Issyrha was done shouting.
Kai didn’t dare say a word as his eyes moved between Davian and Issyrha.
"... So, is evening fine?" Davian asked.
Issyrha looked like she would just throw every ounce of hesitation out of the window along with Davian but Kai quickly stepped in.
"Ah! Kin Issyrha, I-I smell the vegetable stew that Big Brothers and Sisters were telling me about, it’s my favourite! Why don’t we eat together? I’m sure you must be hungry too, right?"
Kai beamed brightly and Issyrha looked down at him, her eyes icy as ever. Slowly, her tense shoulders relaxed and a fraction bit of softness appeared in her eyes.
"All right." She spoke and then threw a glare at Davian.
"I’ll take you in evening."
Davian grinned hearing the response and Kai quickly led Issyrha out of the room.
Coming back to the present, Davian and Issyrha now stood out in Ryujin mansion since use of teleportation or other spells apart from simple communication was strictly forbidden the entire hill of Eldarf manor.
Issyrha glared down at Davian before she brought her hand up and Kai quickly handed her the communication brooch.
"Uh, please return by tomorrow with the brooch Kin Issyrha we will need it here." Kai reminded her politely.
Issyrha nodded and then lifted her hand gently ruffling Kai’s head before she glanced back at Davian.
He looked eager.
Issyrha sighed, resigned to the task at this point and then gestured for Davian’s hand. Davian held Issyrha’s long, pristine white fingers feeling as if he had touched ice but he gripped tightly as he knew if he let go mid-journey he would most possibly be lost in space.
Issyrha glanced once at Kai and Roan before she glanced at the communication brooch and thought of Edrisyl and specifically the link that was normally invisible to eye. The link that connected all of the devices made of the mana stone of the same Dragon. It was a mystery to Issyrha as to how the youngest Dragon developed such a technology but it was pretty convenient.
Issyrha focused on the two links that she saw on Edrisyl and she chose the one closest to the World Tree as she knew that’s where the youngest would be.
Securing the link, the teleportation happened within a split second as the process was swift.
Davian’s feet were suspended in space for just a few seconds before he found the stable ground again and he opened his eyes.
Davian quickly turned his head looking for Ocean but instead of Ocean he saw Elves.
Issyrha also looked around watching the Elf King and some Elder Elves who were bowing to her.
"We welcome Lord Dragon of Frost and our Guardian Dragon’s guest to Elvenland." The Elves spoke.
Davian was taken aback, the last time he came to Edrisyl was by chance when he grabbed Ocean while he was headed here but instead of Elves, last time he had seen Dwarves who clearly didn’t seem pleased at his presence. Ocean had sternly sent him back with a scolding back then so, he hadn’t thought much until now.
The Elves and Dwarves shared this island and protected the World Tree for ages. But they were wary of aura users apart from Merfolk.
Having the Elves treat him was respect was a little unsettling but it didn’t last long as he searched for the one he was here for.
"Where’s O- I mean, Master Ocean?" He quickly asked the youngest looking Elf.
The Elder Elves exchanged glances while the young Elf smiled.
"They are waiting for you," he said.
Davian nodded and the Elf turned his head just as one Dark Elf approached.
"Please come with me." He bowed his head and Davian smiled.
"All right,"
Davian smiled at the young Elf and some kinder looking Elder Elves before he quickly strode after the Dark Elf.
Issyrha watched him leave before she sighed, wishing her youngest good luck for putting up with this stubborn human.
"Lord Dragon, may we escort you to the dining chambers for breakfast or would you like to head to the resting chambers?" One of the Elders spoke reverently.
Issyrha sighed, "Bring my meal to my room."
She did need rest.
Davian followed the young Dark Elf who didn’t look older than a teenager out of the palace. The stone cobbled path led them through the wisteria to the boundary wall made of white stones. There was a gate which Davian assumed to be the back gate that led into the forest.
The Dark Elf opened the gate and gestured for Davian to follow. Since it was still approaching dawn so the forest appeared a little dark but the young Elf had no problem navigating and guiding Davian.
Davian walked behind him and then ended up asking, "What’s your name?"
"Fior."
Davian nodded, "I’m Davian Montaire."
The Dark Elf didn’t respond but just kept walking.
"Hey, say... Is Ocean all right?" He asked, "I mean... he wasn’t injured while fighting here, right?"
The Dark Elf turned his head slightly meeting Davian’s eyes briefly before he shook his head.
Davian sighed deeply feeling relieved to some extent before he started hearing the sound of splashing waves.
As they walked, the sound of the waves grew closer and closer until the treeline finally opened, revealing a wide stretch of pale sand. Beyond it, the sea stretched beneath the soft colors of dawn, its waters reflecting the faint pink and golden light of the sky.
Davian stopped for a moment, stunned. He had never seen a beach before. The sight was unlike anything he had imagined. He simply stood there, watching the waves roll gently onto the shore, a quiet smile slowly appearing on his face.
Ocean chose quite a romantic place to meet. Davian felt the strange tickling sensation in his chest as he turned and faced Fior who stood beside him.
"There." Fior pointed in the distance where the rocks were.
"Huh?" Davian frowned as he squinted his eyes trying to wonder if it was just him or there wasn’t anything over there apart from rocks.
It was mostly a sandy beach apart from some rocks that were at some distance, the jagged seeming rocks that were shaped by waves of the sea.
"Um... It’s just rocks... Where’s Ocean?" Davian asked.
Fior didn’t say anything but simply repeated, "There."
Davian then watched as Fior simply bowed and then walked off towards the forest leaving him standing there.
"Wait... What...?" Davian was at a loss.
He looked back at the black rocks and then started making his way towards them.
However, he couldn’t go farther than a few steps as his boots kept sinking in the sand. He groaned and then removed his boots.
The sensation of the soft, cool sand against the soles of his feet was a strange feeling.
Davian started walking ahead holding his boots in his hands. The cool breeze flowed from land towards the sea ruffling his coat and hair as he walked ahead.
He reached at the rocks in no time and stood there looking around expectantly.
"Ocean?" He called.
It was strange, he couldn’t sense Ocean but he had a feeling that he wasn’t alone. It may be because Ocean didn’t have the sun-like presence since his mana was all expended and it brought back the worry.
"Ocean? You are here, right?" He spoke up a little louder.
For a moment, nothing but the sound of the waves filled the silence as Davian felt his heart starting to pick its pace.
He opened his mouth growing even more worried, "O-"
But then a voice responded.
"I’m here."
The voice was soft and unmistakably that of a child.
Davian’s body relaxed in an instant but he still couldn’t see anyone, and he couldn’t even pinpoint where the voice came from. It was as if the words were carried by the wind.
"Ocean, where are you? I can’t see you. Are you hiding or something?" Davian asked with a chuckle.
"I am." Ocean responded, but there was no humor or mirth in the voice.
Davian shook his head with a smile, "I know you’re embarrassed because you’re not in your usual form but don’t worry, even though you’d be extremely adorable I’ll try not to baby you. Promise. So, come out."
There was no response for a few seconds and Davian’s eyebrows furrowed slightly starting to feel uneasy creep through.
"Ocean, what’s wrong? Why don’t you come out? It’s just me." Davian said.
"... Do you remember what I told you when we met the last time before the Third Trial?"
Davian frowned but then recalled.
"You... said you wanted to tell me something... about some secret." Davian spoke, uncertain.
"Is this about your secret?" Davian asked.
"...Yes."
Davian relaxed his posture again and smiled, "Then, take your time and tell me. I’m right here."
For a long moment, nothing happened apart from the sun slowly starting to rise in the eastern horizon and the temperatures to rise from the chilly dawn to a more comfortable warmth.
"... I’m ready Kin Caelthir. You can do it now." Davian heard the soft voice again and he looked straight ahead at the rocks this time.
Suddenly where he couldn’t see anything more than rocks before was now someone. His heart pounded in excitement as he took a step ahead but, then he froze. The image in his mind and the one before him wasn’t the same or even similar.
He had expected to see an adorable young boy with shimmering aqua blue hair and an angelic face standing before him but what he saw was completely different.
