The Kingmaker System Chapter 756 - 755. Better Sooner Than Later (1)
Previously on The Kingmaker System...
There was momentary silence after the two words that Reina spoke.
The men who knew about Reina’s secret stared at the brooch swinging between disbelief and confusion. She had never been impulsive enough to give in to anyone’s pleadings, she had always been very meticulous.
Duke Arthur who came to his senses first couldn’t help but lean ahead.
"Re-Master Ocean, are you sure?"
Rune nodded along as he said, "Yes, I mean... there might be some problems considering..."
Silas and Marquis Fairisles didn’t say anything, they simply maintained silence while Kai and Roan seemed a little conflicted.
Dahlia sighed as she spoke up, "Master Ocean, there’s no need for you to agree to it if you’re uncomfortable."
Davian looked at his mother who gave him a stern look, "And Davian, it’s not good for you to push him in a corner like this when he’s already recuperating over there after fighting such a long battle."
Davian opened his mouth to argue but then closed it again, he didn’t know what to do anymore. If it was something that was right or something that his heart wished.
"Lady Dahlia, everyone," Reina spoke up, "I appreciate your concern but, it’s fine... I think it’s time."
"Are you sure?" Marquis asked.
"Better sooner than later." Reina said.
She thought for a moment, before she gave some set of instructions for Davian to arrive at Edrisyl.
It was impossible for him to arrive there solely by himself, he would have to use up all his aura and it could be life-threatening. The reason Reina or Ocean could travel regardless of the distance or time was because of the vast amount of Dragon’s mana. But for humans it was impossible.
The only three options were for Davian to take a ship but then again it would take several months for him to arrive. The second option was for a Dragon to give him a ride which would only take half a day but would his body be able to handle the speed at which a Dragon flies to cover that much distance was another matter that worried Reina.
Then there was this third method of someone with a huge amount of mana would pour their mana into the communication brooch in Ocean’s office and teleport with Davian to Edrisyl.
For now the third option was the safest and efficient.
"I understand." Davian responded.
Reina resisted the sigh and then asked Kai to do the needful.
"If there’s nothing else, this meeting is adjourned." Reina spoke, concluding the meeting.
The glow of the mana stone faded and Reina handed it back to Aelfric before she slumped back into the back of the chair she was seated on.
Aelfric bowed and then left the room closing the door behind him.
Caelthir observed her for a long moment before he spoke, "Do you regret it?"
"I don’t know..."
Reina closed her eyes, it was after quite a long time that she felt her emotions overpowering her rationality. It was unsettling, almost as if she was standing amid the battlefield with all of her strength stripped off.
The cool, gentle breeze swept by her and she heard the soft rustling of the leaves of the World Tree.
"Hm? Don’t worry, she’s not sick... Are you, child?"
Reina opened her eyelids a little glancing at Caelthir.
"What are you talking about?"
"The World Tree is worried you’re sick, are you?"
Reina’s eyebrows furrowed a little, "I’m fine... How do you know what it’s saying?"
Caelthir smirked and instead of an explanation, the wind simply blew through him making his long silvery strands dance in the air.
"Go and sleep, young one. You will need strength for tomorrow."
Reina sighed as she pushed her small body off the chair and made her way to the queen sized bed. She crawled under the sheets and lay still for a moment.
With how things were hectic just a few hours ago, Reina wondered if sleep would even come as quickly as her body needed but then again, maybe it was because her body had been weakened too much that it couldn’t even carry the weight of her thoughts anymore and before she knew it, Reina had drifted off to the deepest slumber that she had had in her present life.
The rest of the day in Sestia had been filled with following out the instructions given by the Master.
The preparations came first which would take at least a day or two.
Duke Arthur Aurelius, Rune and others returned to their places each having multiple questions about Davian’s behaviour butbthey decided to pry into it later, once Reina returned.
Dahlia could see her son practically glow with anticipation but she also felt a sense of dread. What would he do once he got to know the truth?
It would be shocking at the very least, she couldn’t even dare wonder the extreme possibilities and those were what scared her for him. He was her son after all.
Davian and Kai as per instructed left Ryujin mansion and went to Eldarf where Issyrha was staying, she had returned in the morning but was resting so, they had only confirmed her return.
For now, she was the one who could help Davian teleport all the way to the Edrisyl. Davian had to convince her to do that on his own as per the instructions.
The kids once they noticed Kai and Davian welcomed them warmly.
"How are you, Davian? It’s been so long!"
"You’ve grown taller!"
"You almost look like an adult now."
Davian laughed along, noting as how the teens from Eldarf were just as warm, cheerful and welcoming as always.
"Um... We’re here to see Kin Issyrha." Kai prompted.
"Ah, she’s in the back."
Davian nodded and started heading towards the back door while Kai was held back.
"Kai, did you eat dinner yet?"
"...No."
"Great, we are making something really good!"
"We’ll also make your favourite dessert so, stay for dinner!"
"Yes, stay!"
"It’s been so long since you shared a meal with us!"
Kai couldn’t bring himself to refuse so, he ended up agreeing and was dragged off to the kitchen.
Davian, on the other hand, stepped out of the back door. The training ground was empty, he looked around but Issyrha was nowhere to be seen.
He stepped out and looked around. The skies were painted in the hues of beautiful pink and gold as the twilight set in.
Davian walked around for a while before he sensed the strong mana belonging to a Dragon. He followed the dirt path until he was in a clearing.
Issyrha was there, the air around her was sharp and cutting as the whole clearing was frozen over. Davian felt his breath freezing into smoke as he stepped closer.
The sound of the ice blade slicing through the wind was audible even from some distance and the impactful shockwaves reached the treeline.
Issyrha seemed to have noticed him but didn’t acknowledge as she continued swinging the huge claymore in her hands.
Davian stopped a few feet away from her before he spoke up.
"I need your help."
Issyrha’s claymore sliced through the air before it stopped just a hair breadth away from Davian’s neck.
He didn’t flinch or step away as Issyrha’s icy gaze settled onto him.
"Do you think you’re worthy enough to ask for my aid, human?" Her voice was as icy as her gaze.
"I need to go to Edrisyl to Ocean, for that only you can help me." Davian spoke without hesitation and a calm expression.
Issyrha’s eyes narrowed as she announced, "I’m not helping you."
"I’m sorry but I can’t take a no for an answer."
Issyrha wasn’t exactly a petite little woman in her human form. Her tall form easily towered over Davian as she stepped closer enough to look down at him.
In the next moment, Davian felt the overwhelming pressure come over his body. It was her Dragon’s Presence.
Every heartbeat sounded like a hammer inside his ears. It was enough to make him feel as if he was being crushed under an extremely heavy boulder. His knees trembled threatening to buckle, his jaw tightly clenched and his fists balled up so tight that his knuckles had turned as white as Issyrha’s snow white hair.
Davian’s head slowly lowered as his whole body trembled. The corners of his eyes felt as if the darkness was slowly seeping in. The frozen ground beneath his feet cracked and his feet sank in.
"When asking for. Dragon’s aid," Issyrha spoke.
Davian felt the breath freezing in his chest, his lungs felt like there were needles inside. He couldn’t draw a single breath of air and his organs were slowly being crushed to death. His aura reacted in an instant resisting the hostile force but it wasn’t enough.
"You must always have a sense of humility, human. Whoever you are, remember that." Issyrha said as Davian’s single knee buckled underneath him sending him down.
"I am not obliged to act on the whims of just anyone." She announced before she walked past him but then stopped.
She turned around finding the hem of her robe being tightly gripped by Davian. Her eyebrows twitched and she thought of increasing the effect of her Presence on him. Any more and his internal organs would burst and his bones would be crushed. He would die horribly.
"Let go, human." Issyrha spoke.
"I... need to go to... Ocean..." Davian spoke through his teeth.
Issyrha’s eyebrows twitched as she looked down at Davian. He lifted his head looking up at her with his violet orbs blazing while his eyes were bloodshot. He was determined to get what he wanted.
Apart from his determination, Issyrha also felt the power of his aura slowly growing or rather instead of growing, it was expanding and condensing fighting against her Presence.
With the threat to his body grown by the constant pressure the aura within his body had shifted to the primal focus. Survival.
The clash of her Dragon’s Presence and Davian’s violet mana created palpable tension that was enough to give Davian a little more strength to get back to his feet again.
"I... request... Please..." He bowed his head and Issyrha observed him for a long moment.
No human was strong enough to last this far after being under the pressure of a Dragon’s Presence and a Supreme Dragon at that.
"Are you in love or something?" Issyrha couldn’t help but asked.
The corners of Davian’s lips curled up as he looked up at Issyrha again, "Yes."
Issyrha watched him for a few seconds before she lifted her Presence and Davian who had been resisting it stumbled and almost fell back with the sudden loss in pressure. Davian felt the air finding its way back on his lungs and he tried his best to not falter as he staggered to keep himself upright.
"Please... Dragon..."
"It’s Lord Dragon," Issyrha corrected angrily before she sighed, still irked.
"And fine," she said.
Davian grinned before his eyes rolled back and he fell backwards, dropping like a rock on the cracked snowy ground.
Issyrha only watched him pass out before she ran her hand through her hair.
"Way to go, youngest. If the empire in human kingdom wasn’t enough, you’ve chosen yourself an insane human mate as well."
