The King’s Enchanting Chapter 1762 - 1776: Pregnancy Chronicles (10)

Both were left speechless, caught in a moment of stunned silence. It was Yu Zexiao who eventually broke the quiet, forcing a casual smile. "Grandma, what’s on your mind?"
Xia Ziyu, a woman of keen perception honed by years of social maneuvering, immediately sensed the subtle shift in the two younger individuals. Her sharp eyes inquired, "Is there some complication with Anning’s pregnancy?"
The thought solidified in her mind. A prenatal check-up followed by a visit to the Leng Family, renowned for their physician, Doctor Feng – surely this meant they were seeking a medical opinion.
Their prolonged absence only deepened her suspicion; a problem must have arisen.
Indeed, Xia Ziyu's astute observation confirmed her fears. As she processed this, other members of the Yu family approached. "Xingxing, why are you lingering by the door? Come inside quickly, it’s winter."
Jian Anning and Yu Zexiao exchanged a significant look. After a brief pause for thought, Yu Zexiao revealed, "Grandma, the situation is that the doctor informed us during the prenatal check-up today that Anning is expecting twins."
"Twins?" The announcement sent waves of elation through the room, a joyous revelation akin to a divine blessing! Yet, a flicker of concern crossed their faces, mirroring the younger couple's subdued demeanor.
"So, what exactly…"
Yu Zexiao continued, explaining, "One of the babies is smaller, and Dr. Feng mentioned its development is slightly delayed. Perhaps being so small, it was missed in earlier examinations. This is precisely why we sought further testing, leading to our delayed return."
As expected, a hush fell over the entire family. While twins are a cause for immense joy, any potential issue with the children cast a shadow of worry.
Jian Anning, understanding Yu Zexiao's intent to present the best possible outlook before any definitive bad news, added, "Dr. Feng provided several tonic recipes for me to consume daily. We just need to be a little more attentive in our daily care." She harbored little faith in winning such an unlikely lottery of fate.
Moreover, even if the worst were to occur, it wasn't an insurmountable obstacle. In this era of advanced medical science, provided there were no severe deformities, even minor complications could likely be managed.
"Then, take good care," the elders responded, their minds not delving into the gravest possibilities. For them, delayed development already signaled a significant concern, let alone more serious conditions.
Xia Ziyu added, her expression softening, "Come to think of it, you haven’t been eating much recently. It's no wonder the child's development is lagging. You must try to eat more. You haven't gained any weight since conceiving; in fact, you've lost quite a bit! Even if you don't have a large appetite, you need to eat for the baby's sake."
Jian Anning nodded obediently. The dinner table was already laden with food. This time, despite feeling little hunger, Jian Anning made an effort to eat.
Later that night, with her mind preoccupied, Jian Anning found herself tossing and turning in bed, sleep eluding her. Though she wished to shield Yu Zexiao from her anxieties, a sense of unease lingered.
"What's troubling you? Still worrying about our child?" Yu Zexiao drew nearer, his hand gently caressing her lower abdomen, where their child, still less than four months along, had yet to stir. Jian Anning remained silent, her brow furrowed slightly.
"Don't be afraid. Dr. Feng assured us our child will be perfectly healthy. That one-in-ten-thousand chance is highly unlikely to be us. Even if it were, we are the parents, and we must remain strong for our child."
