The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1966: Advantage of a Lowborn
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
From the moment Rex was chosen to be a Scion of Vertex and was allocated to the Anger Stratum, his soul and fate are bound to the Highseat of Invincibility. His existence was elevated due to the connection he has with the place above, even the Gods.
Probing into his soul was the same as probing into that connection.
And a mere Awakened Demigod isn’t nearly strong enough to even glimpse the surface.
Rex grinned in hubris at the sight of the Awakened Demigod committing suicide.
It was the first time anyone had attempted such a thing against him.
And though the Awakened Demigod’s death was deeply disturbing, especially for Farhan and Mayla—Rex found it useful. A much-appreciated sacrifice. He glanced skyward again and noted how Farhan’s attention had drifted, snared by the grisly spectacle.
But then again, his comrade committed suicide out of nowhere.
Even a hardened military veteran would be caught off guard by the sight.
Swish—!
From the side, the golden disc hummed with life energy and sliced the air with precision and speed.
It struck the massive ice sword that was still pressing down on Rex and snapped it in two.
Only then did Farhan snap out of his daze, but he was already too late.
A black sphere hovered at the ceiling of the pocket dimension, even above the floating Farhan. It was crackling with black lightning and was emanating an incredible amount of arcane lightning mana. During the chaos, when the hailstorm blotted the area, Rex had already concentrated his black lightning element to manifest this sphere.
He exercised his new mastery over his element into that sphere, focusing on the core’s outer layer.
Just as Farhan sensed the ripple in the air and looked up, it already detonated.
"Great Spell: Sky Rupture Assortment!"
BLITZ—!
A discharge happened.
Farhan’s eyes reflected a thousand lightning strikes spreading—and branching across the entire pocket dimension. He raised his hand and created a barrier to protect himself from the reaches of lightning, yet a frown soon formed on his face.
’So weak...’ He thought inside.
Despite being under the barrage of a thousand lightning strikes, the translucent ice barrier held.
Not a problem at all.
All the black lightning did was crawl across the barrier’s surface and then continue onward.
It left no damage.
But Farhan knew that nothing Rex did was meaningless; he had already amply shown that multiple times throughout this battle. Just like how he baited them to attack—only to brand them with a crown-shaped mark.
And he was right.
His eyes darted down to where Rex had been a few seconds earlier.
Inside, his heart pounded against his ribcage out of fear that Rex had already made use of his momentary distraction to attack. But fortunately, Rex was still there. His crimson eyes still burned between the dark flashes of the thousand lightning strikes around him.
Even from a distance, Farhan could see his growing grin.
Almost as if Rex wanted him to see what was about to happen in the next second.
Crack—!
Another black lightning strike descended, blotting Rex’s figure for a split second, and when it dissipated like the passing wind, Rex disappeared. The sound of crackling lightning seeped into Farhan’s ears from behind, and when he looked back, Rex was already there.
"Great Spell: Lunar Incandescent Axe!"
Rex made an overhead axe kick charged with lunar mana.
His heel shattered the ice barrier and slammed into Farhan’s head, sending him straight down.
Boom—!
Farhan bounced once and rolled forward in an instant, narrowly avoiding another strike that cracked the flowery plain open. His ice sword scraped against the ground as he slid to a stop, lightning strikes still raining down on his body, but he ignored it.
His body is strong, and the black lightning strikes only tickled him.
"Inner Soul of Ice: Slush of Absolute Winter!"
Immediately, Farhan slammed both palms against the ground.
Melted snow spread out from his palms and covered a good area around him—emanating sharp energy that made his body glow blue. He looked ahead and saw the predatory gaze from Rex that stripped his confidence completely.
He felt that it wasn’t enough.
And as he was about to use another ability, another lightning strike descended, and Rex disappeared.
"Inner Soul of Ice: Ancient Warrior of Rantas!"
Just as he chanted the ability, Rex materialized from lightning particles behind him with his fist already fully charged with kingly energy. He then thrust forward, breaking the sound barrier with this move, and then fired a thick beam of crimson.
Farhan’s breath was stuck in his throat at the sight.
The sight of Mayla losing her arm from getting his by this attack flashed in his mind.
But in the nick of time, a massive hunk of an ice warrior rose from the ground and raised its shield.
Clang—!
Even with the Slush of Absolute Winter reinforcing every icy construct to an almost impossible degree, the shield shattered in the same instant as the beam. Fragments exploded outward like shrapnel—jagged and merciless, slicing through Farhan’s skin as they tore past him.
Rex didn’t stop there.
His excitement from the pain made him move even faster.
Again, his body dissolved into crackling particles of lightning, only to materialize at a new angle and lose another Brutal Impulse straight at Farhan. He didn’t pause. Didn’t slow down. Ten strikes in under five seconds, and the barrage kept coming.
A phantom of living lightning wielding the ruinous force of a falling moon.
Farhan defended the same way.
His ancient warriors constantly rose from the ground, shattered, and then replaced by another one.
It was an endless loop.
’I can’t keep going like this for long!’ Farhan screamed inside as another ancient warrior shattered right before him—crumbling into ice shards. ’His attack speed is increasing. It’s almost like the more pain he endured, the stronger he became!’
That was precisely what was happening.
Every time Rex used the Brutal Impulse, the backlash hurt him, and it was only getting worse.
Despite only being a pocket dimension, it seemed to possess a sliver of sentience—and the backlash it hurled at Rex grew fiercer with every violation. But Rex was no ordinary person. With the excitement of a madman and the hunger of a werewolf starved for pain, flesh, and blood, he only grew stronger and stronger in response.
Others may call it Hell; the pain would be torturous to the pain and soul.
But for Rex, this was Heaven.
’I have to stop him from using that ability,’ the thought clawed at Farhan’s mind, but the barrage all around him was relentless. Lightning strikes rain down without pause, each being a potential anchor for Rex’s instantaneous teleportation. ’How do I even intercept him?’
Farhan saw no opening.
No way to reach Rex when he’s in this flow of lightning.
But then, he remembered something.
’No, wait—the sphere. I can stop him using the sphere!’
Farhan looked up at the sphere that was constantly spewing black lightning strikes.
As if scenting Farhan’s intent on the air, Rex materialized directly above him and loosed another Brutal Impulse. But this time, the Red Dawn of Kaiser thrummed with surging life energy—and the Law of Inevitability ignited within it.
The crimson beam that erupted was faster and denser—a honed strike aimed to kill.
It pierced through the ancient warrior and almost severed Farhan’s arm.
By the time Farhan blinked and hissed at the pain, two more crimson beams were heading his way, and he quickly blasted himself away to avoid the deadly beams. He rolled across the ground, and when he came to a halt, a blast of lightning detonated from his back, frying his nerves and paralyzing his body for a good moment.
But the moment he skidded to a halt, lightning erupted against his back.
A detonation that fried his nerves and locked his body in agonizing paralysis.
Farhan gritted his teeth.
He realized that the black lightning strikes could also mark him.
It was a slow-forming mark that he didn’t even sense as his focus was entirely on Rex, not the harmless black lightning strikes that fizzled out the moment they touched his body. Farhan’s pupils dilated when Rex materialized right in front of him.
Rex’s claws were already coated with black lightning as he thrust forward, aiming for the chest.
"Great Spell: Sharp Lightning!"
Blitz—!
Brutally, Rex’s claws pierced through his face.
Flesh, bone, and brain before emerging on the other side.
No notification appeared; Farhan didn’t die, and it didn’t surprise him at all.
Farhan’s body turned into ice and shattered, while the real body emerged across the way.
’He attacked with real killing intent for the first time,’ He thought inside as his body turned into flesh— and blood again. ’Is he playing with us like he wanted? But why do I feel like I am missing something? Like, I’m not seeing the bigger picture.’
Seeing Farhan survive the lethal attack, Rex grinned.
His Blood Moon King Mark glowed even brighter as he punched the air five times consecutively. Dark writings crawled into existence and spread across the space before him, and when he straightened his back, five crimson beams streaked through the air.
Instinctively, Farhan leaped skyward to avoid all five.
He fought through the lightning strikes and went to the sphere, but stopped mid-air.
’Mayla!’
Just then, he remembered Mayla.
Due to avoiding the lethal attack, she was supposed to be right behind him, and yet he dodged the five crimson beams. He looked back to the ground—and could breathe easily when he saw that Mayla was still fine.
She was coughing up blood from exerting herself earlier, but was still alive.
But then, his eyes were fixated on the multiple vacuum holes on the swirling vortex behind Mayla.
It must be because of the Brutal Impulses that Rex had launched.
Farhan was about to continue skyward, yet his body stiffened as realization dawned upon him.
His heart dropped to his stomach.
Farhan had embarked on this gold-star mission to probe Rex with a full squad—nine comrades at his side, with a tenth absent, the one infiltrating Larta City, which made this possible. But somewhere in the chaos, consumed by his fixation on Rex, that fact had slipped from his mind entirely.
Most of the Brutal Impulses that were hurled towards him earlier were blocked by the ancient warriors.
But not all of them were blocked.
Some were parried, and some cuts went through the air but missed Farhan completely.
He thought Rex had bad aim, but now he remembered that he wasn’t the only target.
Seeing the realization dawning on Farhan’s face made Rex grin ear-to-ear. He watched as Farhan came back down, completely forgetting about the sphere and landing right before Mayla. And then, he utilized the innate law over the pocket dimension to get rid of the vortex.
Once the howling wind dissipated and the full view of the flowery plain was revealed, Farhan’s entire body froze.
Every single one of his comrades was down on the ground.
Most of them were missing a limb, likely from being struck by one of the stray Brutal Impulses.
None of them died, but they were all incapacitated completely from the fight.
Around them, the phantom wolves stood on guard, baring their fangs at him.
Farhan had believed the crimson beams were blind—wild, desperate fire. He was wrong. Every strike had been calculated, placed with surgical intent not only to keep him distracted—but to systematically incapacitate the eight Awakened Demigods still outside the vortex.
Now, the only ones capable of standing are he and Mayla.
But Mayla isn’t in good condition, so it was practically only him.
"Let me tell you something more about myself." Rex stood as motionless as a statue, his predatory gaze boring into Farhan’s back. "I came from a low-tier realm, the Mortal Realm. So, from the moment I set foot in this place, I’ve been attuned to everything around me. Every sound. Every presence. Every threat. I live in a constant state of caution and awareness.
"You must be someone born from the God Realm. A Highborn. You’re not aware at all."
