Rex met with Liebert, who delivered a special box from Zev. Rex revealed he had anticipated the interception, knowing about Liebert's men and Zev's possible demise. He presented an empty box, implying he had already dealt with Liebert's man and had Zev unharmed. Rex then warned Liebert to tell High Lord Rashal not to undermine him or those associated with him.

Rex found himself in a predicament, his hands bound by circumstance. Several formidable enemies harbored a deep desire for his demise. While he had already contemplated actions many would deem unethical, resolving to proceed regardless, he saw no reason to actively invite another powerful adversary into his life.

Making an enemy of High Lord Rasha would be utterly disastrous for him.

More critically, it would serve only to divert his focus from his ultimate objectives.

Therefore, he needed to exercise restraint and avoid going too far. This was him holding back. Despite the instructions High Lord Rashal had given to Liebert, Rex chose not to pursue them at that precise moment. He was in a bind and could not afford divided attention.

Conveying his intended message to High Lord Rashal through Liebert's direct address should suffice.

He felt confident that High Lord Rashal would comprehend and accept this resolution.

Much like Rex himself, the High Lord was exceptionally astute and would undoubtedly recognize the respect inherent in this message.

"Do you comprehend?" Rex inquired once more, gently tugging on Liebert's hand to ensure his full attention.

"Y-Yes," Liebert responded, clearing his throat as his voice emerged slightly hoarse. "Yes, I understand. I shall deliver your message to the High Lord. I will instruct my team to release Zev. Furthermore, I apologize for my earlier rudeness—I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me." He then turned his attention to Davina and Lilliana. "Lady Davina and Lilliana, I extend the same apology to you both. I hope for your forgiveness as well."

Both women offered a nod in acknowledgment.

Although their anger from the earlier encounter still lingered, they possessed the wisdom to know when to cease their stance.

They could sense what Liebert was feeling.

They perceived Rex's considerable displeasure with the situation and his earnest efforts to maintain control.

Once he truly grasped his error, Rex released Liebert's hand and drew back, settling himself again on the sofa without breaking his gaze. He crossed one leg over the other, resting his ankle on his knee, and gestured invitingly. "Proceed, then. Convey your message."

Liebert cleared his throat once more and presented the envelope before delivering the message.

It contained a direct directive from the High Lord.

He relayed that Rex had been assigned to the Red Skull Elite Force, a specialized unit composed of elite military personnel who answered directly to the High Lord. Essentially, it functioned as the High Lord's personal kill team, known only to a select few powerful individuals.

Merely a few days prior, the Grey Realm, a vital territory within the realm cluster connected to Larta City, had suffered an invasion by enemy forces. The Red Skull Elite Force was consequently tasked with eliminating these invaders.

According to the gathered intelligence, the attackers originated from another hive city situated on the border of Larta City.

Liebert elaborated that these hive cities also encompassed several realms akin to the Cavity, which served as a cultivation ground for divine strands. Each hive city remitted taxes to the Overseer, and based on the magnitude of these tax payments, the hive city would receive significant benefits.

High Lord Rashal had recently ascended to his position.

Upon becoming the High Lord of Larta City, he was granted access to the Cavity and entrusted with its oversight. Naturally, the divine strands harvested from this area belonged to the Overseer, channeled through its extensions, the Pale Defenders.

The sheer volume of divine strands generated prevented any unauthorized exploitation; only the Pale Defenders held jurisdiction there.

Nonetheless, this did not mean High Lord Rashal gained nothing from managing the Cavity.

He received a tangible benefit.

Specifically, he obtained an additional percentage bonus calculated from the quantity of divine strands produced by the Cavity within a designated timeframe. While not a substantial percentage, it represented a noteworthy gain given the astronomical total output of divine strands.

Consequently, many other High Lords harbored envy towards High Lord Rashal.

Some had even begun to encroach upon his territory, which led to the Grey Realm becoming a target of aggression.

Rex, along with the Red Skull Elite Force, was now assigned the critical mission of neutralizing the invaders from these hostile hive cities.

Following his recent visit to the Cavity, Rex had acquired a wealth of knowledge about the place, far exceeding his initial expectations. What Liebert was currently explaining held no surprises for him. Divine strands served as the currency of the God Realm, making such conflicts an inevitable outcome.

"You will attend a briefing with the Red Skull Elite Force. Rest assured, an escort will arrive to accompany you." Liebert then shifted his gaze toward Davina and Lilliana. "Both of them may accompany you. Their presence will not pose any issues."

"Is there anything else?" Rex inquired, and Liebert responded with a shake of his head. "In that case, I shall proceed with my preparations then."

"I shall take my leave now," Liebert announced as he stood up.

Rex escorted Liebert to the door, closing it with a soft click and turning the lock.

Upon returning to the living area, he found both sisters observing him with an unreadable intensity in their gazes.

"What is it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.

"Nothing," Lilliana replied, shaking her head and resting her head against the sofa. "Just admiring."

"Admiring? Me? What are you admiring about me?"

"Of course, admiring the way you handled the situation. How do you even come up with a solution so quickly?" Her eyelids lowered partially, as if she were captivated by Rex. "To devise a solution that could even harm the High Lord on the spot, who else could do that?"

In truth, the entire plan began with a simple assumption.

Before he had left the Cavity, a sense of unease had settled in his stomach.

The System's scanning feature had swept the entire vicinity, detecting everyone present. However, with such a dense crowd, pinpointing a single spy proved extremely difficult. Ordinarily, he could have sniffed them out, but this was uncharted territory.

New scents and unfamiliar variables made everything significantly harder.

Consequently, he decided to operate under the assumption that someone had successfully spied on him.

This led him to deduce that Zev would be in trouble.

Rex placed himself in the spy's position and was certain Zev would become the target.

Zev was the only one who had interacted extensively with Rex and would undoubtedly possess valuable information.

Davina tugged on Lilliana's hair, pulling her head back as she began to flirt with Rex again. Lilliana protested, pouting slightly, but Davina ignored her. "Is that why you were making trips out early in the morning?" she asked, recalling waking up to find Rex absent from the bed beside her.

It left her feeling annoyed and empty, though she understood he was occupied with something and she didn't wish to disturb him.

"Something like that," Rex replied, sinking onto the single sofa with a weary sigh.

He had logically assessed the situation with cold, impartial reasoning. A spy possessing knowledge of his connection to Zev would undoubtedly report to their superior—specifically, the individual assigned to manage his case. Three spies immediately came to mind.

And of those three, Liebert's name surfaced.

Out of the three spies surveilling him, Liebert was the sole individual who had initiated contact.

It became evident that he was the one in charge.

From there, Rex employed Bellana's techniques to evade detection while surveilling Liebert.

Rex had simply followed Liebert's movements and intercepted the lesser spies just as they were about to deliver the Permit, extracted from Zev, to Liebert. That was how he had managed to empty the box. The effort had been painstaking, but entirely rewarding.

Now, he should be able to convey his stance to High Lord Rashal effectively.

There was no need for the High Lord to try and outmaneuver him when he held no advantageous positions.

Other than what had been established during their initial encounter, of course.

As for Zev, Rex couldn't verify his condition, as getting too close would reveal his own location. All he could do was hope Zev hadn't been killed or worse for his association with him. However, judging by Liebert's earlier demeanor, it seemed he was still alive.

Merely being held for interrogation.

Rex leaned his head back against the sofa, extended his legs onto the table, and then crossed them.

"What now?" Davina inquired.

"Now..." Rex closed his eyes for a brief moment. "We will assist the High Lord with this particular issue. Following that, we will no longer accept any requests from him. Our agreement does not extend to ongoing assistance. Therefore, we must reassess the situation after this problem is resolved."

"I doubt the High Lord will honor his word," Davina scoffed. "It's impossible for him to be truthful."

She was quite certain Rex had already secured leverage.

And he had undoubtedly done so exceptionally well.

However, they lacked the power to guarantee the High Lord would adhere to his promise.

Once the High Lord had exploited them to his fullest extent, she was convinced he would simply discard them.

If he reneged on the deal, what recourse would they have? None. And that was precisely the core of the problem.

"You are correct—" Rex nodded, his eyes still closed. He was not surprised that Davina could also pinpoint the exact issue he had yet to address. "Securing guarantees from a powerful entity like the High Lord will be challenging, but I believe both of you can assist."

"Help you?" Lilliana questioned with a frown. "How?"

"In the same way we did with Bellana..." Davina's eyes narrowed. "Is that right?"

"Precisely," Rex's lips curved slightly, expecting nothing less from his brilliant fiancée.

"You want us to make more connections?" Lilliana looked from Rex to Davina, completely bewildered. "I'm fairly confident in my social abilities, but I don't think befriending someone of the High Lord's standing, or similar, would be all that easy."

"It’s not like that, you complete fool." Davina tugged at her hair again, her voice filled with exasperation. "We have to work alongside that Red Skull Elite Force squad Liebert mentioned—the ones who report directly to the High Lord. Surely, one of them must know something. Something we can use as leverage to force the High Lord to honor his promise and give us what we are owed."

"I’m not slow," Lilliana replied with a pout, fixing her hair. She was annoyed by the situation that forced her to reconsider. "It’s just that you two are thinking a bit too quickly."

Later that same night.

Rex sat on the sofa, eyes closed in a meditative pose.

A tumult was stirring within him.

Every single one of his senses was stretched to its absolute limit, demanding his undivided attention. The surrounding atmosphere twisted and quivered; the very fabric of space seemed to distort, yet nothing materialized. It felt as though he was attempting to grasp something just beyond his current command.

Finally, his eyes fluttered open.

"Sigh..." Rex gazed down at his hand, a deep frown creasing his brow. "At this pace, it’s going to take an eternity."

In addition to making the abilities from the Night-Divine Adaptation permanent, the recently acquired quest had bestowed upon him an extra skill, which was the very reason the quest had been initiated. This skill was known as Pure God Sense.

It was a skill designed to aid him in detecting the colorless energy that permeated the God Realm.

Immortal Energy.

Rex had been deeply troubled by this specific issue, as it represented a significant weakness, placing him at a considerable disadvantage when confronting any Godlings. Previously, he could not sense immortal energy, meaning any attack conjured using that power would completely evade his perception.

Now, he possessed the precise skill he needed.

However, even with this newfound skill, he was unable to properly utilize or even sense immortal energy.

This skill was less of an ability and more of a mastery that required cultivation.

It necessitated continuous training from Rex until he could finally perceive and wield immortal energy. Contrary to his initial hopes, the skill merely offered a pathway to overcome his disadvantage. Nevertheless, he absolutely needed to gain the ability to sense immortal energy at the very least before his encounter with the elite squad.
