The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1875: Colorless Energy
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Jessie gulped hard as the realization sank in.
Having been born in the Primordial Meadow, she had explored many varied realms before. Bizarre realms held no novelty for her. The vast stretch of shallow water stretching endlessly failed to astonish her in the slightest.
She had visited a realm populated by merely a few living creatures.
Realms of this sort were far from unfamiliar.
Yet what truly stunned her was that Rex, merely an Awakened Demigod in strength, possessed ownership of this realm. The emptiness here now clicked into place. This realm was either extremely nascent or severely underdeveloped.
No matter which, Rex owning such a realm defied all logic.
Being linked to a realm or governing it was one matter entirely, while true ownership was something else.
"Who in the Gods are you?" Jessie blurted out, the words escaping her lips in sheer shock.
"Someone you don’t want as an enemy," Rex replied coolly. His grip tightened around her neck, cutting off her breath completely. "But since you’ve already crossed that line, I suppose I’m your executioner now."
Bam—!
Rex held back from outright slaying her. Instead of delivering a fatal heart-ripping strike, he slammed a powerful punch into her gut. From behind her, the Aegis of Moon Sentinel materialized without a trace, the very shield that had caused Jessie’s previous assault to miss its mark, now fully risen.
With a mere thought, he shaped black lightning into binding shackles, securing her limbs firmly to the golden sphere.
His earlier knuckles had been empowered by the Law of Misdirection, preventing her from gathering any power until he permitted it.
For added security, sharp electric shocks zapped through her body every five seconds.
These jolts disrupted her energy flow, rendering retaliation even more difficult.
In just a handful of gestures, Rex had utterly neutralized an Awakened Demigod.
Since stepping into the Spirit Realm, Rex understood that truly outstanding beings from lower realms remained superior even in higher ones. They stayed above the norm. Even mediocre or feeble natives of higher realms paled in comparison.
To be honest, neither Shadow nor Jessie could be called average.
Thus, absent that factor, Rex might simply be unparalleled.
However, Rex refused to entertain such notions.
Dwelling on it would breed arrogance, and arrogance invited catastrophe.
Rex could hear Jessie hacking up blood, yet he paid her no heed. Stooping low, he picked up the energy sword from the ground. Even with her hands restrained, its blade pulsed with a savage crimson radiance. It seemed to require no ongoing energy feed.
The weapon operated autonomously.
Once ignited, the sword maintained itself until manually deactivated.
Nevertheless, the energy sword itself wasn’t what drew Rex’s focus. Rather, it was the energy forming its blade.
"So this is that energy I couldn’t detect," Rex marveled while examining it closely. He had assumed facing a God meant he knew divine power intimately. Yet this alien energy shattered that belief. "System, scan the energy."
<Scanning...>
While awaiting the System’s scan results, Rex peered even closer.
"No... It’s not truly red."
Moonlight energy shines silver. Elemental mana varies by element. Chaos energy gleams purple. Rex figured this unknown energy followed suit, perhaps tinted by subtypes.
After battling various Godlings, he noted their energies displayed distinct hues despite shared essence.
Now scrutinizing it up close, he saw the undetectable foreign energy was actually colorless. Rex only perceived it visually thanks to the accompanying energy lending it hue.
The color and traits stemmed from the secondary energy, while the core potency derived from the colorless one.
"Arcane mana serves as an upgraded mana for elite and fortunate high-rank Awakened. Divine strands amplify energies internally, boosting their might. Could this strange energy be yet another enhancer?" Rex mused, stroking his chin in intrigue, encountering for the first time an energy beyond his sensory grasp.
Rex tested it by extending his black lightning toward it.
His attention fixed on the colorless core to gauge its response.
As black lightning advanced, the secondary energy reacted first—wild and aggressive, primed solely for assault. Only upon contact did the colorless energy stir.
It seeped into the secondary energy, infusing it with greater force.
No dramatic power surge occurred, but Rex witnessed something entirely different.
Supported by the colorless energy, the second energy's savage resistance against the black lightning, previously chaotic, started to transform. It evolved. Retaining all its brutality, it now possessed precise guidance. Rex observed meticulously as it separated into three clear streams.
The first stream collided directly with the black lightning. The second sliced through, targeting the divine strands at its heart. The third enveloped it like a shroud. Then, yet another stream emerged. Pure colorless energy, it headed straight for the black lightning.
Rex observed his black lightning disintegrate and fade away.
It shared the same savage essence, yet the colorless energy diminished it rather than bolstering it.
In the following moment, Rex's hand jerked back as the black lightning exploded apart.
<Scanning complete!>
<Notice: Two components made up the energy sword. Stellar Mana and Primus Source>
<Notice: the user doesn’t have enough gold to purchase this information.>
<Be advised, the user will obtain the information automatically upon gaining access to the energies>
"I need to complete the sudden quest effectively, huh?" Rex nodded.
From the two elements forming the energy sword, he felt confident that Jessie's energy was Stellar Mana, and the colorless one was Primus Source. Originally, he aimed to understand this energy to avoid future ambushes.
However, his objective had shifted completely now.
Through mere observation, Rex realized the Primus Source could enhance a linked energy's essence while suppressing all others. It didn't boost raw strength, but rendered it vastly more efficient.
Its ability to sap the black lightning's power showed the Primus Source identified arcane mana.
This served as clear proof of its compatibility with arcane mana.
Rex strongly suspected compatibility with any energy, since weakening another's nature demanded profound insight. The Primus Source had to be exceptional to achieve that feat.
"I can’t sense it—but I should be able to sense the Stellar Mana, this can only mean the Primus Source also infused its own nature into the energy it was attached to," Rex marveled at the energy sword. "I really need to get my hands on this energy."
After seizing powers from the Lunirich Gods, each Full Moon's essence would belong to him.
The Primus Source would undoubtedly propel him further.
As the Royal Black Prince, he was already incredibly adaptable. This Primus Source would amplify that adaptability. Looking back, it was the ideal energy for someone like him.
Rex halted briefly.
Without much hesitation, he then aimed the energy sword at his own heart.
He thrust it forward, but the Absolute Anger Effect halted it immediately.
"Hmm," Rex examined the clash between Primus Source and Absolute Anger Effect. "It can’t weaken the gift—from the Highseat of Invincibility," he determined. "Pity. I thought it would be a real advantage against Scions. Still, its nature makes it the most effective energy for the task."
At that moment, Rex remembered Scions held no fear of Gods.
He should have anticipated this outcome from the beginning.
Rex glanced at Jessie once more, but turned his head at the shifting air behind him.
Far off, a vortex swirled into existence—a twisting funnel of minor divine strands, pulled from the empty realm into one dazzling spiral of glittering wind. Evelyn and Gistella stood at its core, faces upturned, witnessing the spectacle unfold.
It appeared they had deployed the Realm Fertilizer.
Rex moved toward Jessie and struck her stomach once more to regain her focus.
She had been so absorbed in the spectacle that she ignored her predicament.
Blood dribbled from the edge of her mouth as she fixed one eye on Rex. Her form attempted to fold, but failed. Muscles seized in convulsions, trapping her breath midway between chest and throat.
In her vacant eyes, Rex detected no remaining hostility.
She was utterly powerless.
"I’m in a remarkably good mood right now. Answer my question without trouble, and I’ll let you go.
Though Jessie harbored no trust in him, no alternatives remained. Against her instincts, she gave a feeble nod. Even a slim one percent chance of freedom beat certain doom.
Rex lifted the energy sword. "How did you get the Primus Source?"
"I don’t know... what you’re talking about," she replied. Her voice was faint. Feeble.
Yet Rex's sharp ears caught it effortlessly.
"You don’t know?" Rex furrowed his brow, yet Jessie appeared genuine. "How is a seasoned assassin like you clueless, while a naive young Pale Defender knows? Lie to me, and you’ll perish before you sense it."
"I truly don’t know," Jessie denied, shaking her head. "It flowed to me instinctively."
"Hmm," Rex stroked his chin thoughtfully.
Clearly, Jessie remained ignorant of the colorless energy’s actual name.
She wielded it capably, yet had no clue about its true nature.
Under those circumstances, holding onto Jessie brought zero gains. With a casual wave, Rex unshackled her from the bindings and oppressive force. He even hurled the energy sword back her way, catching her off guard.
Jessie had assumed her energy sword was gone for good, yet here it returned.
"Get out," Rex commanded, spinning to observe the spectacle with arms folded. "Utter a word about today’s events to anyone, and your life ends precisely then."
Much like a bewildered stray lamb, Jessie shifted her gaze from Rex to the energy sword, then back to him.
The unfolding situation baffled her completely.
"Are you really letting me go?"
"Yes."
"Just like this? No questions on my backing organization? No probe into why you’re my mark?" Jessie pressed, deeming the scenario bizarrely strange. "I attempted your assassination, yet you’re freeing me anyway?"
"I’ll consult the High Lord on your organization. Plus, I doubt you’d reveal the real reason I’m targeted," Rex shot back, glancing over his shoulder with a smirk. "For someone like you, an assassin, your group can eliminate you more effectively than I could ever manage."
"Your failed hit brands you unreliable, which taints your entire organization. See?" He let out a chuckle at her confusion. "Scram now. If I were you, I wouldn’t linger—every moment matters."
Right as he spoke, a system alert materialized in his view.
<Race Evolution Quest completed!>
"Oh?" A grin of astonishment lit Rex’s face. "April wrapped up her missions? Impressively swift."
