"All right, Nolan. Your mother and I have to go home and take care of some work."
Arden stood up and glanced at his watch.
Mey stood up as well, while Alice seemed reluctant to leave.
She sat on Nolan's lap, her gaze never leaving him.
"Big brother, can I come see you again later?"
Nolan smiled and gently pinched her cheek.
"Of course. Ask the driver or one of the servants to bring you here. I'll play with you."
Alice's eyes sparkled with joy at his answer.
"Mhmm! Thank you, Big Brother!"
Arden and Mey exchanged glances and smiled helplessly. Nolan and Alice had only met a few hours ago, yet they were already so close.
Still, they were thrilled. They had been worried that Nolan might reject Alice, especially since they had prepared her as a backup heir in case Nolan never woke up from his coma.
After exchanging a few more words, Arden, Mey, and Alice left the hospital room.
Only Nolan and Seira remained.
"Do you want to get back into bed?" Seira asked gently as she leaned toward him.
Nolan nodded. With Seira's help, he returned to bed and lay down, his body going limp. Sitting for too long was still uncomfortable for him.
"By the way, Seira." Nolan shot her an annoyed glance. "That surprise you mentioned… Was it Alice?"
Seira, who was tidying up the table, fell silent for a few seconds before finally smiling.
"That's right. Are you mad?"
"Mad?" Nolan chuckled softly. "Of course not. I'll admit, I was a little surprised when I found out about her. After all, my parents are already too old to have another child. Even so, I'm kind of happy."
His gaze shifted toward the ceiling.
"I'm an only child, and sometimes I imagine what it would be like to have a sibling. It must be really fun. And now that I have one, my wish has finally come true."
Seira walked toward the kitchen at the far end of the room. After finishing up, she returned to Nolan and hugged him.
"I'm glad to hear that. Alice isn't at fault, and to be honest, I was a little afraid you'd hate her."
Influential families were full of intrigue.
Although she was certain Nolan wasn't the scheming or cruel type, a lingering fear remained in Seira's heart that he might hurt Alice.
Nolan returned her hug and gently patted her back.
He naturally understood Seira's concerns and didn't blame her. What Seira didn't realize, however, was that he had never been interested in power in the first place.
He simply wanted to live freely and be himself.
Unfortunately, no one knew about that small desire of his—not even Seira.
A moment later, Seira loosened her embrace, but she didn't let go.
She brought her soft lips close to Nolan's ear.
"By the way, my love," she whispered, her warm breath sending a shiver down Nolan's spine. "Ever since I found out Uncle and Aunt had Alice, I've been feeling restless. It made me realize that I want one too. So…"
Her face slowly turned as red as an apple.
"…How about we make one?"
Nolan: "(⊙ _ ⊙)"
…
Time flew by. Before they knew it, a month had passed.
Nolan had recovered about eighty percent. His body no longer felt stiff or sore.
He could already stand and do some exercises on his own. It was all thanks to Seira's endless care and encouragement.
The meals she prepared were also packed with nutrients, helping Nolan recover faster than expected.
But there was still one problem that bothered him—Nolan couldn't move around freely yet.
He still had to undergo at least ten walking therapy sessions in a special room at the hospital.
Behind the glass walls of the room, Seira stood watching Nolan walk with the help of several doctors.
Her eyes never left his handsome figure, as if he were the only person in her world.
RING!
The sound of a smartphone notification suddenly rang out.
Seira furrowed her brows as she picked up her phone and checked the sender.
The moment she saw the name "James," her expression turned cold.
Without hesitation, she deleted the message from the notification window.
But more messages quickly appeared one after another.
"Hey, Seira, do you have time?"
"My love, I've reserved a table at that Western restaurant in your town. Come at seven p.m."
"Seira? I know you're there, my love. Please reply, okay?"
The barrage of messages made Seira feel sick. She turned off her phone and went back to watching Nolan through the glass walls of the private room.
Seeing the smile on his face, Seira found herself smiling as well. As long as Nolan was healthy and happy, that was more than enough for her.
Half an hour later, Nolan's walking therapy finally came to an end. He walked out with a cane in each hand.
The doctors watched him from a distance.
As Nolan stepped out of the room, his eyes met Seira's gentle gaze.
"Have you been waiting for me this whole time?" Nolan asked softly.
Seira didn't try to hide it.
"Mhmmm…"
Nolan sighed. He gently tapped her forehead with his finger and complained, "Didn't I tell you not to wait for me anymore? You can wait in my room, you know?"
Seira shook her head, stepped closer to Nolan, and hugged him.
She buried her face in his chest.
"I feel more at ease when I see you in person. That way, I know how your recovery is going."
Warmth spread through Nolan's heart. At the same time, he felt a deep ache in his chest.
He could only imagine how devastated Seira must have been when she saw him after the accident two years ago.
Nolan leaned his right-hand cane against the wall, then wrapped his arms around Seira and gently stroked her head.
"You're such a fool," he whispered.
Seira simply smiled and closed her eyes, savoring Nolan's affection.
"Ahem!"
A clearing of the throat came from behind them.
They both tensed and quickly broke apart.
Nolan turned around and saw Dr. Reina standing behind him.
"Dr. Reina," Nolan greeted her casually, as if the embarrassing scene from earlier had never happened. "Do you need something?"
Reina nodded and handed him a medical report.
"Your recovery is progressing much faster than we expected. In a few more days, you'll be able to leave the hospital."
Nolan took the document and glanced at the title on the cover: Nolan Frey's Medical Report.
"Huh? This soon?" Seira asked in surprise. "Didn't Nolan have to undergo at least nine therapy sessions before he could walk again, Doctor?"
Reina gave a small smile.
"That won't be necessary. The patient can already walk perfectly well. We just need to wait for his physical strength to fully recover. Of course, you're welcome to stay at the hospital until then. The choice is yours."
After saying that, she turned around and walked away, leaving the two of them behind.
"What do you think? Do you want to go home or stay at the hospital?" Seira asked.
Nolan smiled and gently pinched her cheek.
"Of course we're going home."
