"And if I am... what's your problem?"
Thomas's expression froze.
"Are you challenging me?" he asked coldly.
"Let's just say I am," Nolan replied casually, without a hint of fear.
"Hahaha!" Thomas suddenly burst into laughter and clapped his hands. "Good... very good!"
He rubbed his temple and shook his head.
"I don't know who you are, but, buddy, let's be honest—you're asking for trouble."
His laughter faded, replaced by an icy expression.
"You don't know who I am, do you? Well, I'll be happy to tell you."
He patted his chest and introduced himself.
"My name is Thomas Evtar, the Third Prince of the Great Kingdom of Horland. Never heard of the Great Kingdom of Horland? Well, I guess a country bumpkin like you wouldn't."
He let out a mocking chuckle.
"The Great Kingdom of Horland is the strongest kingdom on the Western Continent! Only the dragon race is worthy of standing against us. And I am its third prince. Do you understand now, country bumpkin?"
Malverna remained calm, but inwardly, she desperately wanted to laugh.
"How stupid... This is the first time I've seen someone this dumb."
Thomas was unbelievably arrogant. She couldn't understand how someone could be so full of himself.
What intrigued her, however, was Nolan's reaction. That was what she was looking forward to.
"The Great Kingdom of Horland? Wow! The strongest kingdom on the Western Continent? That's so cool!" Nolan exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with admiration.
Thomas was caught off guard by Nolan's reaction. He had expected the man to be frightened, but instead, he looked genuinely impressed.
"Good. Then get out of here within five seconds," he ordered coldly. "That's my final act of kindness. If you don't..."
His voice trailed off, but the threat was crystal clear.
Instead of showing any fear, Nolan simply smiled.
"The Great Kingdom of Horland? The strongest kingdom on the Western Continent?" Nolan repeated, clapping his hands.
He glanced at Malverna and asked, "If a meteor fell from the sky, could a kingdom that powerful survive?"
Malverna was slightly surprised by the question. However, she immediately understood what Nolan meant and gave a cynical smile.
"Of course not. The entire kingdom would be reduced to rubble."
Nolan gave a slight nod.
"Leave nothing behind. But try to keep the casualties to a minimum."
Malverna's smile remained as she vanished from sight.
Thomas was slightly surprised. The ability to vanish so effortlessly proved that the woman was a mage.
Even so, he wasn't the least bit afraid.
"The five seconds are up. You really are tired of living," Thomas sneered.
He glanced at one of his soldiers and ordered, "Behead him."
The soldier gave a slight nod, dismounted, and walked toward Nolan.
"W-Wait! Don't do it!" Melina screamed hysterically.
But the soldier beside her grabbed her tightly, preventing her from moving.
"No!" Melina sobbed, reaching out as if she could somehow save Nolan.
Thomas paid no attention to her cries. He folded his arms across his chest and looked at Nolan with an amused smile.
He wanted to see the fear on the man's face as death drew near.
The soldier walked toward Nolan with his sword raised.
Wearing a smug grin, he said in a mocking tone, "Kid, don't blame me. I'm just following orders. Besides, this is your own fault for disobeying His Highness."
Slash!
He swung his sword at Nolan's neck.
Clang!
But the sword suddenly bounced off.
"W-What!?" The soldier's eyes widened in shock.
Thomas and the others were just as stunned.
The swords used by the soldiers of the Great Kingdom of Horland were forged from high-quality materials. They could easily slice through iron, let alone a human neck.
Yet the sword had just bounced off as if it had struck solid steel.
"Ouch! Did it miss? Or is your sword just too weak?"
Nolan rubbed his neck, pretending to be surprised.
Enraged by the provocation, the soldier attacked again.
Clang!
"Again!"
Clang!
But it was useless. Nolan's neck was unbelievably hard, like steel that had been forged countless times.
Panic began to set in. The soldier quickly changed his target, aiming for Nolan's heart instead.
With a desperate thrust, he drove the tip of his sword toward Nolan's chest.
Clang!
The sword stopped dead against Nolan's chest, unable to move even an inch.
"H-How is that possible?!" he cried in terror.
He immediately let go of the hilt and stumbled back several steps.
Cold sweat covered his forehead and soaked the back of his neck.
Thomas narrowed his eyes, his expression turning wary. His worst fear had come true—this man was no ordinary person.
"Back off!" he shouted.
The soldier hurriedly turned to run, but Nolan stopped him by grabbing him by the throat.
"After you attacked me, isn't it my turn now?"
"N-No! Please, don't!" the soldier cried in terror. "Y-Your Highness! Please save me!"
"Don't kill him!" Thomas shouted angrily. "Let him go, and I'll pretend none of this ever happened!"
Nolan glanced at him indifferently.
"Do you really think I'd let someone who tried to kill me walk away?"
Thomas's expression darkened. This was the first time anyone had dared to treat him with such disrespect. Even so, he knew he couldn't afford to provoke the man any further.
He didn't have a mage with him. Defeating someone like Nolan was impossible.
"Let's just forget this ever happened," Thomas said in a heavy voice. "I'll compensate you. Whatever you want, I'll give it to you. Just let that soldier go first."
It was the only choice he had. Otherwise, the soldier would die. If that happened, the others might start seeing him as a leader who didn't care about his own men.
That could cause his support within the royal military to plummet.
Nolan merely smiled. He slowly lifted the soldier off the ground by his throat.
Under everyone's gaze, his fingers tightened around the man's neck.
Crack!
The sound of snapping bones echoed through the silent surroundings.
The soldier's eyes widened before the light in them slowly faded.
"Oops! My hand slipped. Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to."
Nolan let go, and the soldier's body hit the ground with a heavy thud.
A heavy silence fell over the area.
Even Melina could only stand there, speechless, her mouth hanging open. She couldn't believe what she had just witnessed.
The soldier had been killed just like that, and the handsome man had boldly defied Thomas's authority.
There was no outcome but death.
Her breathing grew ragged, and the urge to help Nolan surged within her.
"Y-Your Highness—"
Before she could finish, Thomas, his face as red as a chili pepper, pointed at Nolan with a trembling finger.
"All soldiers... Kill that bastard!"
Instantly, hundreds of mounted soldiers turned their horses and surrounded Nolan.
Nolan stood in the center as hundreds of swords and spears were leveled at him.
Yet he wasn't the least bit afraid. Instead, he smiled and muttered, "Now this is getting interesting."
