Alec observed the overwhelming Zerg swarm descending on the city walls. While the barbarian guards were confused and Amazon archers unleashed Qi-infused arrows, Alec relied on his system's artillery, the mortar and cannons, to decimate the enemy. Just as the defenses seemed to hold, a new, airborne type of Zerg appeared.

Alec couldn’t understand it, there were close to two hundred of these new Zergs rising into the air, he had already used his Inspect skill on them, yet he still couldn’t get any proper information about their abilities.

The only thing he had managed to uncover were their names.

Many of them seemed to share the same names, yet their body sizes and structures were so drastically different that it left him baffled as he tried to understand how members of the same race could vary this much.

After observing them closely, however, he was able to arrive at one conclusion, the Brood Guard Zergs were the only ones who seemed to share any real resemblance with one another, they mainly had humanoid shapes,

And each of them wielded bone weapons that looked as though they had been further reinforced with technology, judging by the strange features and functions those weapons displayed.

Then there were the Stalker Zergs, the one thing Alec could immediately infer about them was speed, even their name alone already felt like a warning to this testament, and the fact that they had slender bodies with blade-like metal protrusions jutting out from the joints of their limbs only reinforced that thought.

Everything about them suggested that they were the kind of creatures that would take pleasure in hunting down their prey.

Many of them didn’t even look alike, but among them were a few with humanoid forms, and from the way they carried themselves compared to the rest of the swarm, Alec could already tell they were probably far more intelligent than he wanted them to be.

He knew the Zerg race was supposed to evolve based on whatever they had consumed, but at this moment, he truly hoped that the more bizarre-looking ones hadn’t developed some twisted abilities he wouldn’t be able to counter.

And then there were the Ravager Zergs. Not only were they the tallest, bulkiest, and most muscular members of the current Zerg swarm, but no matter their shape, form, or whatever race they seemed to have evolved from, they all possessed one feature that made them stand out.

A very sturdy-looking bony, almost steel-like exoskeleton covered their bodies like a dependable suit of armor.

As for the ones in humanoid form, every single one of them wielded heavy weapons that seemed capable of causing massive destruction, almost as if they were trying to make up for that they had relatively smaller bodies in comparison to the Other Ravager Zergs with the sheer size and intimidation of the weapons they carried.

Just then, a few of the Brood Guard Zergs began making a strange sound, very different from the usual shrieking and screeching of the average Zergs.

By the time that sound died down, the Zergs had already reached the city walls, digging their bladed limbs into the sturdy surface as they climbed upward.

However, the archers never stopped, they would step to the edge of the city wall, loose their arrows, then retreat backward in one swift, smooth motion; the way they moved with such precision made it seem this was a tactic they had practiced side by side for years.

As for the sound that had been sent out, Alec knew it was a command, he was certain of that, because the Zergs who had done nothing but charge mindlessly since they first appeared now seemed to gain clarity and purpose the moment those few Brood Guard Zergs among them took control of the swarm’s assault.

But that only made Alec place an even higher priority on killing them first.

The Zergs that had been getting shot down and denied the chance to climb any higher on the wall soon received yet another command from the Brood Guard Zergs, who now seemed both furious and impatient after watching more and more of their kind get slaughtered.

After that final screeching order, they changed tactics completely, those in front who should have been the first to receive the new volley of arrows suddenly moved their arms backward, linking hands with the ones directly beneath them.

Once their grips locked together, they poured all their strength into hurling their fellow predators high into the air, hoping the ones they launched would be able to reach the tops of the towering walls.

And then cause a little chaos, which would in turn benefit them, in their minds, as long as they could reach the top of the city walls, then about sixty percent of their conquest would already be complete.

Then the first set of Zergs were flung into the air, their faces of the ones launched forward twisted with menace, ready to tear apart whatever stood in their path.

However; what awaited them on top of the walls just happened to be a group of barbarians who had been itching out of their minds for a chance to finally throw hands.

They had spent all this time watching the Amazon archers they were supposed to protect kill more and more Zergs, while they, who craved battle the most, were forced to stand at the side and endure it, so when the chance finally came, they seized it without hesitation.

Smiles broke across their faces as the first wave of Zergs hurled upward were met by the brutal slashing and hacking of the barbarian warriors, who roared in jubilation as the heat of fresh blood splashed across their bodies for the first time.

“Kill them all!” Connor shouted.

It was almost as if the barbarians turned into a pack of crazed berserkers as they crashed into the Zergs, hacking at every creature that reached the wall, uncaring of how many more kept coming.

As time passed, the Zergs finally managed to gain a foothold on the wall, forcing the barbarians back step by step, but that still didn’t change the fact that they were being cut down in large numbers.

Though the barbarians had started to take casualties as well, but with the way they still fought with such savage ferocity and grins on their faces made Alec feel that these were exactly the kind of warriors one would always want backing them, no matter what.

However, just as he was watching, Alec suddenly felt his mental sense ring out, in an instant, he blinked, the next moment his eyes opened again, his irises had turned light blue, as a faded color started blending into his normal vision.

It was almost as if his sight had been inverted, yet in this state, Alec believed he could see the most, including things invisible to normal eyes.

But that wasn’t the only thing he activated, he made sure to spread his mental sense out fully, pushing it to its limit. In that instant, he located about five Zergs already surrounding him, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Though they might have been invisible to ordinary sight, however to his energy eyes, which could pick up the life force within living beings, they were as clear as day.

“Finally, some action.” Alec muttered as he slowly drew out his bone katana.
