Alec spent his energy to upgrade his city walls, arrow towers, and barracks. He then summoned 350 Barbarian Warriors and 150 Amazon Archers, along with their respective heroes, Connan and the Amazon Warrior Queen, to defend his settlement. As the first wave of Zergs approaches, his troops and newly acquired defenses are put in place.

The earth quaked with immense force as the Zerg horde advanced, a living torrent of countless bodies scrambling over each other without a care. Their hideous shrieks melded into a deafening cacophony that resonated throughout the region, the very same unsettling chorus that had compelled Alec to take flight.

The fifty barbarians assigned to his protection appeared bewildered, unsure of how to confront such a dire situation. Although they were mid-rank warriors, Alec could already discern that their power operated on a different spectrum than the mages of the Origin World.

Their strength stemmed from a unique life force, making their Qi far more potent than usual. Consequently, without mana, they lacked the mid-rank ability of flight.

From a distance, Alec had perceived the Zergs as a dark flood engulfing all in its path. Yet, as they drew nearer, their individual monstrosities became starkly apparent: razor-sharp claws raked the ground, rows of jagged teeth snapped with ravenous intent, and their glowing eyes were fixed upon the barbarians on the city walls as if they were mere sustenance.

The smaller Zergs led the vanguard of the swarm, darting erratically amongst the larger beasts, akin to starving predators eager to feast first. Behind them, the heavier creatures crushed the debris under their immense weight without the slightest falter in their advance.

Dust and fractured earth erupted into the atmosphere from the sheer pressure of the charging bodies. The noise alone was overwhelming—thousands of limbs pounding the ground in a chaotic cadence, reminiscent of an approaching avalanche.

Despite the swarm's seemingly disordered appearance at first glance, a terrifying coherence permeated their movement. There was no hesitation, no fear, only an unending hunger as the entire horde surged directly toward the defenders atop the city wall, a nightmare made manifest.

“Archers, take aim... ready... shoot!”

For the first time, Alec felt a chill creep into his veins upon witnessing the sheer multitude of Zergs hurtling toward them. Although many were of low rank, the mere thought of being isolated amidst that throng made one truth abundantly clear: he would not survive unless he fled.

However, the instant Alec heard the Amazon Warrior Queen’s command, he snapped out of his stupor and observed the Amazon archers unleash their inaugural volley into the sky.

Ting!!!!

Though the Amazon archers possessed comely visages, they were undeniably merciless in combat. Prior to loosing their arrows, each warrior imbued the shafts with her own Qi.

It was Alec’s initial encounter with individuals who could ignite their inner Qi and infuse it with elemental properties. Clearly, in a realm devoid of magic, the Amazon archers had devised their own method for unleashing elemental assaults by igniting the power within their Qi and exploiting its latent potential.

The arrows traversed the air in beautiful arcs, as if guided by emissaries of death.

Upon witnessing that deadly rain descend, Alec finally grasped the true peril masked by such elegance. The arrows pierced the smaller Zergs at the forefront, felling them in considerable numbers. Some projectiles were even potent enough to penetrate multiple foes simultaneously.

Yet, to the Zerg swarm, the demise of those at the front signified virtually nothing. Some simply trampled over the carcasses of their fallen comrades and pressed onward.

Others inflicted savage bites upon the deceased before continuing their charge, yet even then, their eyes blazed with the same insatiable hunger, as if nothing could ever assuage it.

“Aim! Set target! Fire!” The Amazon Warrior Queen betrayed no surprise at the Zergs’ relentless advance, barking another command and instructing her archers to unleash a second volley without any delay. There was no time to squander.

Just as Alec resolved to contribute to the bombardment, a surge of fighting spirit rising within him, a loud boom erupted behind him. He turned in time to witness the mortar propel its first massive, flaming shell into the air.

The concussive sound was so intense that Alec suddenly recalled purchasing defensive artillery to aid their cause. The fiery mortar shell traced an arc through the sky before impacting directly into the surging Zerg swarm.

Due to their extreme density, the blast efficiently eradicated another substantial portion of the horde. It was almost as if a sudden realization dawned upon Alec.

He finally understood that if he intended to secure victory in this battle, his most reliable asset would undoubtedly be the machinery acquired from the system.

The sheer power of that mortar alone gave him the impression that it possessed destructive capabilities and an operational range comparable to a Tier 6 mage following the magic path.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he employed his mental energy to draw the cube toward him before initiating the blueprint for his newly established settlement.

With a slight ascent, the cube revealed a detailed map of the settlement below. The holographic projection presented a miniature reenactment of the unfolding battle.

Quickly repositioning the cannons, which were initially aimed elsewhere, Alec directed them toward the incoming Zergs. Although they hadn't fired yet, it was solely because the enemy hadn't entered their effective range.

Yet, Alec felt confident about one thing: the moment the Zergs breached the mortar's bombardment zone, they would inevitably enter the cannons' range, triggering them automatically.

Indeed, the distance between the mortar's reach and the cannons' firing line was not substantial.

Once finished, he dismissed the interface, allowing the cube to return to its central position within the settlement. He then watched as the two cannons he had just adjusted were propelled through the air, as if guided by unseen magical forces, to align perfectly with the other two cannons on the city wall.

Alec had pondered numerous times how the system managed such feats, conjuring objects from nothingness with such effortless grace.

However, even now, a definitive explanation remained elusive, leading him to eventually abandon his quest for an answer.

At that precise instant, the anticipated metallic sound finally echoed. He heard the cannons groan as they slowly pivoted into position, akin to beings stirring from slumber.

Operating without direct command, all four cannons, now forming a straight line across various points of the settlement, acquired their targets. Subsequently, another deafening roar erupted across the battlefield, harmonizing with the mortar's rhythmic bombardment, as the Zerg bodies were effortlessly torn apart.

For a fleeting moment, all seemed to be progressing favorably, and the city appeared poised to maintain control of the situation. Yet, this sense of security proved ephemeral as a new development emerged.

A different type of Zerg appeared.

This new wave of Zergs bore a striking dissimilarity to the first group, who were still charging forward without discernible strategy. These creatures hovered in the air, and with a single glance, Alec understood they would not be so easily neutralized by his machinery or his army's onslaught.
