Gu Qingheng and his companions learn that Princess Ahyang is held in Misty Forest. Despite knowing the forest is filled with poisonous mist and is a dangerous place, Gu Qingheng decides to enter it alone due to his immunity to poisons. Ming Guang, however, insists on accompanying him.

However, what was peculiar was the presence of a narrow, winding path leading into the forest, clearly showing signs of frequent passage, indicating that others had indeed traversed this route.

Gu Qingheng proceeded along this path, but after only a few steps, he suddenly perceived a swift movement of something flying towards him from the surrounding dense foliage.

"Watch out!" Ming Guang exclaimed, but before his warning could be fully registered or acted upon, a streak of golden light zipped past.

The golden entity shot through the air with lightning speed, contorted its body, and with a flick of its small mouth, it ingeniously swallowed the approaching venomous insect whole. It then smacked its lips with apparent satisfaction, remarking internally that while tasty, the toxicity was somewhat lacking.

Ming Guang’s eyes widened in astonishment as he observed the golden creature's actions, letting out a snort. He grumbled about this little snake "stealing his job," deeming it far from cute.

The gold settled on Gu Qingheng’s shoulder, teasingly flicking its tongue towards Ming Guang. The unspoken message was clear: 'Who told you to be so slow?'

Gu Qingheng, however, had no time to indulge in the playful banter between his companions. His attention was fully focused on cautiously surveying their surroundings, probing the way forward into the depths. Abruptly, a surge of dark fog billowed towards him.

Gu Qingheng quickly brought his hands to his mouth and nose, attempting to shield himself.

"Cough, cough!" Ming Guang was suddenly seized by a coughing fit.

"Master, are you alright?" Gu Qingheng swiftly grasped Ming Guang’s arm, realizing the poor visibility made it perilously easy to become disoriented without physical contact.

"It’s suffocatingly potent," Ming Guang's voice, though muffled, carried a tone of annoyance. "What a dreadful place?" He too covered his mouth and nose with his sleeve.

Gu Qingheng felt a wave of relief wash over him; this indicated that his master was evidently unaffected by these noxious fumes.

Pressing onward for approximately another fifteen minutes, the oppressive black fog gradually dissipated, allowing visibility to return. Ahead, a clearing emerged. As they advanced further, the terrain underfoot grew increasingly soft, and in certain spots, a faint mist seemed to perpetually rise.

It became apparent that they had entered a swamp permeated by toxic gases.

Yet, before Gu Qingheng could even contemplate a strategy for traversing the treacherous swamp, he distinctly heard sibilant sounds emanating from the surrounding trees. Soon, numerous creatures began to appear perched on the branches – some were familiar species like venomous snakes and centipedes, while others were bizarre, unknown entities. However, without exception, all were lethally venomous.

The gold instantly became agitated, persistently nuzzling against Gu Qingheng.

"Go on," Gu Qingheng gently patted the gold’s head.

The gold darted forward with the ferocity of a wolf descending upon a flock of sheep.

Despite Gu Qingheng’s keen eyesight, he could barely discern the gold’s rapid movements, only catching fleeting glimpses of golden light.

Suddenly, a cacophony of screeching and squeaking sounds broke out, undoubtedly the death cries of the poisonous creatures. Many, in fact, did not even have time to react before finding themselves engulfed within the gold’s gullet.

At last, the golden flashes ceased. The majority of the venomous creatures that had initially intended to attack them had vanished, while the remainder lay vanquished or severely injured.

Gu Qingheng’s lips twitched slightly. Other venomous creatures had either been consumed or fatally bitten, but the snakes, remarkably, remained unharmed, huddled together and seemingly too intimidated to flee.

The gold let out a contented belch. It mused that it should inform its parents that the venomous fauna on Miaojiang Mountain were far more abundant and potent than those found on Xiaocang Mountain. If an opportunity arose, perhaps Xinxin could orchestrate a culinary expedition for their family of three to this very location.

While Gu Qingheng might not grasp the gold’s intricate thoughts as completely as Yang Ruxin, he certainly apprehended the general sentiment conveyed by its actions, prompting him to pat the small creature's head and praise, "Good job."

The gold flicked its tongue, as if to convey, "It was nothing."

With the menace of the venomous insects neutralized, the next challenge was to navigate the swamp itself.
