Guan Qingyue receives a bottle of poison from a mysterious person, intending to use it against Yang Ruxin. Meanwhile, Diewu, who orchestrated the encounter, escapes unseen after sensing danger. Guan Qingyue returns home to her father's anger and her mother's talk of her brother's upcoming departure to Beijing for imperial exams. Guan Qingyue harbors resentment towards her brother for favoring Yang Ruxin, vowing revenge once Yang Ruxin is dead. Guan Danian is upset that his brother, Lingling's father, has sent Lingling to accompany their son Qingshu to Beijing, claiming she will be family soon.

"This is quite troubling..." Guan Tongshi furrowed her brow upon hearing this. "Qingshu needs to focus on his studies for these two years. Wouldn't bringing Lingling along just invite more problems?"

"Those two are excessively cunning," Guan Danian scoffed. "We had an agreement that Lingling would be welcomed into the family eventually, but they're worried Qingshu might marry someone of higher status, leaving Lingling in an inferior position. Their plan is to have her bear a child for Qingshu first."

Guan Tongshi lowered her head, remaining silent. After all, they were her brother's family, making it difficult to voice direct opposition.

"Fortunately, I paid them a visit yesterday," Guan Danian stated, taking a seat as he entered the room. "Otherwise, Qingshu might not have been able to manage. I flatly refused their proposal."

"It's good that you refused," Guan Tongshi exhaled in relief. She was well aware of her niece's difficult nature; the girl was hardly suited to looking after others and would undoubtedly create more chaos for her son. Her son remained her top priority. "However, this situation does serve as a reminder. Shouldn't we find a study companion for Qingshu? Otherwise, he'll be traveling to Beijing alone with no one to help with his belongings. In the event something happens, there will be no one to look after him."

"Your point is valid," Guan Danian mused, rubbing his chin. "Beijing is quite far; it's indeed not ideal for him to go by himself. Someone should escort him." He paused, considering. "However, we don't have anyone suitable readily available, and it's too late to acquire new staff. Skilled servants are not something our current family can afford."

A brief silence fell between the two, then they suddenly looked up simultaneously. Their eyes met, only to be quickly filled with disappointment once more.

"Head of the household, perhaps we could try asking them?" Guan Tongshi proposed tentatively. "We won't know unless we ask, will we?" She explained, "Yang Ruxin has a transportation business with many capable individuals. If our son could travel with them to Shangjing, it would undoubtedly be the safest arrangement."

"Ah..." Guan Danian sighed, falling silent for a moment before finally nodding. "You handle this matter. She's pregnant, isn't she? Take a few eggs to gauge her reaction."

"I..."

"Their household consists entirely of women; how appropriate would it be for a man of my standing to approach them?" Guan Danian gestured irritably. Franky, he lacked the nerve to go and apologize himself.

"I will go," Guan Tongshi agreed calmly. "Tomorrow..."

"Go now," Guan Danian insisted with another glare. "If it proves successful, I shall inform our son tomorrow."

Guan Tongshi hurried towards the kitchen, carefully placing the eggs she had been saving into a basket.

"Mom, I'll go with you!" Guan Qingyue exclaimed, her excitement evident. She hadn't anticipated the chance to visit the Yang Family materializing so soon.

"Why do you want to go?" Guan Tongshi inquired, shaking her head. "You should stay home and handle the cooking."

"Mom, I made a mistake before, and I offended Yang Ruxin. Now is a perfect opportunity to apologize and mend things," Guan Qingyue stated firmly, determined to accompany her mother. "Yang Ruxin is so accomplished now; it would be beneficial for us to maintain a positive relationship with her."

Guan Tongshi regarded her daughter with surprise.

"Mom, don't look at me that way. I'm not foolish; it was just envy before. Now, there's nothing to be jealous of," Guan Qingyue declared with apparent sincerity. "If I went alone to apologize, it would be quite awkward. Today presents an excellent chance."

"It's commendable that Xiaoyue has come to this realization," Guan Danian interjected, entering the room. "Take her along." He cast a stern look at his daughter. "You are responsible for your own conduct; do not cause any trouble, or I will arrange your marriage the very next day."
