Yang Miao and Chun Feng fend off two harassing men from town. Though the men claim to be relatives of the Ma family, Yang Ruxin decides to let them go after they apologize. However, she secretly tasks Chun Hua with keeping an eye on them.

With the two men retreating in shame, their eyes blackened and faces puffed up like bruised melons, Yang Ruxin accompanied the other two women. Their first stop was the furniture workshop, where they reviewed the year's orders and designs. Following that, they proceeded to the medicinal wine workshop's construction site, which was a hive of activity.

As the trio approached, the workers below offered warm greetings from a distance, their faces beaming.

In years past, winter meant dispersal; everyone scrambled for meager work, often earning mere copper coins for exhausting labor, and frequently finding no employment at all. Ever since Xinxin took charge and asserted herself, as long as they toiled diligently without slacking, each person could now secure several taels of silver monthly. Exceptional workers even reaped bonuses and benefits. Sustenance was assured, and daily meat became a reality. Envy from outsiders was almost a given.

Occasionally, when venturing out, individuals from neighboring villages would seek them out, eager to work under Xinxin, a fact that filled them with considerable pride.

Indeed, Xinxin was their beacon of fortune.

"Xinxin, you really shouldn't be wandering about with such a large belly," Li Zhong, the project supervisor, expressed concern as soon as he noticed Yang Ruxin. "I assure you, I'll manage everything competently." He then turned to Dong Wenxiu and Feng Zilan, "Ladies, please curb her wanderings; this girl is quite adventurous."

"Did you hear that?" Dong Wenxiu shot Yang Ruxin a stern look.

"I know you all watch out for my well-being; rest assured, I'm aware of my limits," Yang Ruxin quickly raised her hands in a gesture of understanding. "I won't endanger myself or the baby."

"That's good to hear," Li Zhong replied with a smile. "Alright, just take a look around and then head back. It's quite dusty here; try not to inhale too much. I need to attend to tasks over there."

"Thank you for your hard work, Uncle Zhong," Yang Ruxin acknowledged with a nod.

"Xinxin, you've arrived!" The village chief, who frequented the site daily and sometimes even lent a hand with shoveling or moving bricks, promptly set down his iron shovel. Upon seeing Yang Ruxin, he approached, making sure to greet Dong Wenxiu and Feng Zilan as well.

"Village Chief, you realize you're not getting paid for this, right?" Yang Ruxin couldn't help but chuckle at the village chief, whose boots were caked with mud.

"Oh, it's nothing," the village chief dismissed with a wave of his hand. "Xinxin, I actually wanted to discuss something with you."

"Please, do tell!"

"Once the medicinal wine workshop is complete, will you be hiring additional staff?" the village chief inquired hopefully. Despite their village's burgeoning reputation for prosperity, many surrounding hamlets still faced hardship.

"Yes, we will," Yang Ruxin confirmed with a nod.

"Might these new positions possibly be open to individuals from our neighboring villages?" The village chief clasped his hands together eagerly. "While many are currently engaged with the transport teams or are cultivating medicinal herbs, that still represents a minority, doesn't it? Some people..."

"Certainly," Yang Ruxin readily agreed.

"Ah?" The village chief seemed taken aback. He had prepared a lengthy persuasive argument, only to find it unnecessary. Her swift agreement caught him entirely off guard.

"I'll entrust this matter to you, Village Chief. As you can observe, my current condition makes it inconvenient for me to manage such affairs. Even after the baby arrives, I'll need to focus on childcare," Yang Ruxin explained with a smile. "You're well aware of my hiring criteria, so the selection process should be in your hands. Initially, we won't require a large number of workers, perhaps around a dozen. As we expand in the future, the need will grow, and at that point, we'll formalize things with employment contracts and confidentiality agreements. By then, Village Chief, your role will need to evolve into that of a manager..."
