Dao Xuzi, Gu Qingheng, and Ming Guang continue their search for the Flame Sect's hidden captives, but find no trace. They decide to rest for the night, only to be confronted by a wolfdog, which leads them to a hunter named Arang.

Arang remained silent but signaled for the wolfhound, Blackhead, to return to their encampment. Nearing the forest's edge, he looked back, warning, "It would be best if you no longer ventured into these mountains. Depart quickly, or you might very well lose your lives. Here, take this." He tossed one of the rabbits their way before vanishing into the dense woods.

Gu Qingheng and Dao Xuzi exchanged a knowing look and swiftly followed.

Ming Guang happily accepted the rabbit, his mind already on the prospect of roasted rabbit meat.

On the opposite side of their camp, within a mountain hollow, Ayang, disguised, was diligently administering rabbit blood into Jin Bao’s mouth. Without access to milk, animal blood was their alternative, a practice not uncommon for Miaojiang children who were accustomed to a varied diet from a young age, with mothers also having no strict dietary restrictions during pregnancy, thus posing no digestive concerns.

"Arang, are you certain those three possess martial arts skills?" Ran Lei asked, pulling Arang aside for a huspired conversation.

"I overheard them conversing in the official Daxuan dialect," Arang confirmed with a nod.

Abruptly, Blackhead, which had been previously lying down, rose to its feet, assuming a defensive stance and emitting a low growl.

Ran Lei instinctively grasped the curved knife at his waist and moved towards Ayang, positioning himself to shield her and the child behind him.

"Do not be alarmed; we merely came to express our gratitude to this young fellow," Gu Qingheng explained, gesturing towards the rabbit held by Ming Guang and then indicating Arang.

Arang murmured something to Ran Lei and Ayang.

Despite the distance, Gu Qingheng’s profound Inner Strength allowed him to clearly hear the words, "It’s those three people," confirming their suspicions based on their earlier discussion.

"Who exactly are you?" Ran Lei questioned, his alertness instantly heightened. "What brings you to Miaojiang?"

"We hail from a village situated beyond the mountains," Gu Qingheng replied, his gaze assessing the trio, who were clearly no ordinary individuals. "We entered the mountains in search of medicinal herbs but have been unsuccessful for several days."

"Are you from Daxuan?" Ran Lei abruptly switched to the Daxuan language.

"Indeed," Gu Qingheng affirmed with a nod.

"Then how is it that you speak our Miao tongue?"

"Having lived at the base of these mountains, I've frequently interacted with the Miao people, thus naturally acquiring the language," Gu Qingheng stated with a faint smile, replying in the Daxuan language. His early education had included proficiency in various regional and ethnic languages, Miao included.

Ran Lei's gaze narrowed as he studied Gu Qingheng. Despite his unassuming appearance, Gu Qingheng's eyes possessed a remarkable clarity and righteousness that made him instantly memorable.

"Cease your idle chatter; this roasted meat is quite delicious," Dao Xuzi declared, indicating the rabbit. "Hurry and gather some firewood."

"Let’s build a fire!" Ming Guang exclaimed enthusiastically upon hearing this. "Find some wood!"

"No fire allowed," Ayang interjected, unable to contain her exclamation.

"Apologies?" Dao Xuzi stammered, taken aback. "How does one roast without fire? Are we expected to consume it raw, like the little one? That’s detrimental to one's well-being." He recalled Yang Ruxin's persistent advice: always avoid raw food and untreated water whenever possible.

"No raw food," Ming Guang concurred, nodding. "Xinxin warned that eating raw causes stomachaches."

Ayang quickly lowered her gaze and held her brother closer, her earlier anxiety evident.

"Regardless of who you are, I strongly advise you to depart from this place immediately," Ran Lei stated, turning and slinging Jin Bao onto his back. "Otherwise, should you encounter certain dangers... well, without life, nothing else matters." With that, he took Ayang's hand and they prepared to leave.
