Flame's forces massacre the Miaojiang king and his followers, burning the royal tribe to ashes. This act plunges Miaojiang into chaos, with soldiers deserting and clashing with Flame's men. Meanwhile, Ayang grieves the sudden turn of events, finding solace only in her infant brother, Jin Bao, while Ran Lei tries to rouse her to face their grim reality.

"Allow me." Ran Lei gently took Jin Bao and proceeded to feed him the rice soup spoonful by bit.

With sustenance provided, the little one ceased his cries, even waving his tiny hands with delight.

After consuming half a bowl of the nourishing soup, the baby let out a yawn and drifted back to sleep.

"He is happiest during these moments of innocent unawareness," Ayang murmured, gazing at her brother's peaceful face. She then turned her attention to Ran Lei, stating, "This was a grave error by father."

"The Flame Sect harbored wicked intentions. Even had the king not engaged with them, they would have eventually revealed their true, predatory nature," Ran Lei interjected quickly. "Therefore, you need not..."

"Save your comfort," Ayang replied with a pained smile. She gestured towards a box on the table. "It was this Divine Incense that damned father's soul to the abyss. Had father not placed such immense faith in the Flame, Miaojiang might still face peril, but it certainly wouldn't be the utter devastation we see now."

"But Ayang, he was the king..."

"Even kings err, and the repercussions of a monarch's missteps can be far more catastrophic," Ayang stated, waving a hand dismissively. "Rest assured, I am my father's daughter. I shall rectify his mistakes and ensure our tribe's blood is not shed in vain."

Ran Lei nodded, a sense of relief washing over him. It was no wonder the king held such affection for his daughter; her resolve and sharp intellect were qualities rare even among men.

"Princess, fear not, I shall remain steadfastly by your side."

"Alei, I would not wish to burden you..."

"Princess, you must understand, I served faithfully by the king's side all these years. Now that he is gone, the Flame will surely seek retribution against me," Ran Lei explained, shaking his head. "My continued presence would not only fail to protect me but could also bring further trouble to your tribe." He hesitated before adding, "Moreover, you are not entirely alone; you have Jin Bao. Attempting to reach Beijing is perilous; you risk capture the moment you depart the safety of the tribe."

Ayang fell into a thoughtful silence, acknowledging the truth of his words and her current helplessness.

"Princess..."

"Alei, there is no princess here anymore; simply call me Ayang," Ayang declared, looking up. "From this moment forward, consider me your Sister Ayang, and you, Brother Alei."

"Very well," Ran Lei agreed, nodding. "I shall escort you north, Princess."

Ayang did not protest further, and a spark of inspiration lit her eyes. "Great Xuan is currently at war with Nanzhao, are their troops not stationed in this region?"

Ran Lei confirmed with a nod.

"Then, if we were to seek refuge in Great Xuan's military encampment, would we not find safety?"

"However, we assisted the Flame Sect in numerous matters previously. Why would Great Xuan's soldiers readily offer us sanctuary?" Ran Lei expressed his concern, a sigh escaping him. Approaching them might result in them becoming targets for the soldiers' pent-up anger.

"Then what course of action should we take?"

"Unless..."

"Unless what?" Ayang inquired, her brow furrowed. "Brother Alei, do not leave me in suspense."

"Unless we can demonstrate our sincere intentions."

"But how can we possibly offer sincerity at this juncture?"

"I have an idea. Great Xuan dispatched a new general recently, as the previous one was captured by the Flame," Ran Lei revealed, his eyes gleaming. "I heard it is the prince of Great Xuan. If we could manage to rescue him, then perhaps..."

"An excellent notion, but do you truly believe we possess the strength to rescue anyone in our current state?"

"Even if a full rescue proves impossible, if we can discover information regarding the prince's whereabouts, it could provide us with a valid reason to seek Great Xuan's assistance, could it not?"
