Luna revealed the ancient history of Krave, detailing how she manipulated three powerful Abyssal Trench-Lords into destroying each other through cunning deception. She then explained that Krave is currently employing a similar tactic against Austin, playing the role of a vulnerable victim to trap him. Austin, realizing the danger, decided to counter Krave's plan by embracing unpredictable irrationality with Luna's help.

With a heavy sound, we walked out.

I stepped out into the massive, echoing corridor of the Sunken Throne, taking a slow breath of the artificially circulated, ozone-scented air. Behind me, the steady, rhythmic clicking of heavy claws against the stone signalled Luna’s arrival. She bumped her massive shoulder against my hip, letting out a long, dramatic exhale that ruffled the edge of my heavy coat.

"This place is too big for my taste. It is designed to accommodate a leviathan, yet it is currently inhabited by a woman who pretends to be small and fragile. That is just irritating."

Luna projected directly into my mind, her nose twitching as she analysed the sterile, scentless environment.

"It’s designed to make you feel insignificant when you build a house this big and leave it empty; every footstep sounds like a reminder of who owns the floor. It’s an intimidation tactic."

I replied mildly, slipping my hands into my pockets as we began to walk down the sweeping, bioluminescent path.

"I am getting tired of the long walks, and currently, I require calories."

Luna snorted, her tail giving a slow, arrogant swish.

I smiled, shaking my head. I reached into my spatial storage and pulled out a thick, heavily spiced strip of abyssal sea-drake jerky. I didn’t toss it to her. I held it down by my side as we walked. Luna snapped it out of my hand with the practised, terrifying precision of a bear trap, her fangs cleanly missing my fingers by a fraction of a millimetre. The sharp crunch of the dense bone and dried meat echoed loudly through the silent, glowing corridor, violently shattering the pristine quiet of the empty kingdom.

In a world run by ancient, calculating sociopaths, the absolute, unrefined simplicity of her trust was the only thing that kept me grounded. I didn’t need to guard my back around her. I didn’t need to parse her words for hidden daggers or dual meanings. If Luna wanted something, she demanded it. If she liked something, she ate it. Her honesty was brutal, but it was absolute.

"Alright, so everything confirms she is a psychopath, right?"

I murmured, bringing up the translucent blue screen of the System interface.

I let the digital panel hover in the air just ahead of us.

"Since she is a survivor, I gotta find some new ways to break her in."

I corrected, scrolling past the raw stats down to the psychological description I had reviewed back in the room. Luna stopped chewing for a fraction of a second. She swallowed the massive chunk of drake meat whole, letting out a low, vibrating rumble of sheer contempt.

"She cut out her own heart because she was afraid it would get her killed, a highly efficient survival tactic. Also incredibly pathetic."

Luna stated flatly, falling into step perfectly beside me.

"That is why when we deal with her, we’ve got to be careful, every move Krave has made since we met. The way she leaned against my shoulder on the balcony last night. The way she looked at me when we were alone, feeding me those perfectly timed confessions of eternal loneliness. She isn’t feeling affection, Luna. She’s playing me."

I said, my eyes scanning the glowing blue text as we passed beneath another sprawling archway, this one woven from trapped abyssal starlight that pulsed with a slow, hypnotic rhythm.

"A performance."

"Exactly. A flawless, millennial-tested performance. She studied me from the second I walked into her. She saw that I like to take control. She noticed that I enjoy breaking arrogant people and outsmarting the local elites. So, she perfectly tailored a persona to feed that exact ego. She’s playing the majestic, untouchable queen who is secretly desperate for an equal, because she knows that’s the exact kind of bait a manipulator like me would bite."

"You are rather predictable when it comes to women with terrible personalities."

Luna pointed out, her telepathic voice entirely deadpan.

"Cough.....I don’t know what you’re talking about."

I bumped my knee lightly against her silver flank as we walked. Luna flashed her teeth in a lazy, terrifying grin. She nudged her wet nose aggressively against my hand, silently demanding another piece of jerky. I pulled out a second strip, feeding it to her as we strolled through a massive, open gallery lined with frozen waterfalls of pale moon-coral.

The quiet intimacy of the moment—just the two of us sharing food and talking casually in the heart of an ancient god’s empty kingdom—felt incredibly warm. It was a stark, almost blinding contrast to the sterile, lonely perfection of the palace around us. Krave had thousands of Dragonic-level maids at her beck and call, entities that could shatter continents, yet she walked these halls completely alone. I had a gluttonous, sarcastic wolf who shed silver fur on my coat, and I was infinitely richer for it.

"If her affection is fake, then her loyalty is non-existent. She is feeding you scraps of intimacy to make you dependent on her authority. Once you are properly leashed and your ego is satisfied, she will use you."

Luna projected, chewing rhythmically,

"She can try, but a machine can only process the data it’s programmed to receive. She expects me to act like a rational, ambitious mortal. She expects me to fall in line, enjoy the novelty of her body and her power, and slowly become a willing piece on her chessboard."

I smiled, the expression cold, sharp, and entirely devoid of the warmth I showed my companion.

I swiped a finger through the air, closing the System interface. The blue light vanished, leaving only the soft, pulsing gold of the corridor to illuminate our path.

"How do you defeat an enemy who feels absolutely nothing, Luna?"

The silver wolf didn’t hesitate.

"You bite their head off before they can formulate a counter-attack."

"Aside from brute force, you force them to feel."

I laughed softly, the sound echoing gently off the dark crystal. I looked up at the glowing ceiling. The architecture of the Sunken Throne was flawless. Every crystal was cut to mathematical perfection. Every pearl pillar was aligned to project maximum authority. But it was completely dead. Just like its ruler.

"She thinks because she was used to emotions, she won’t fall like the rest of the gods, and for that thought of hers, I will have a lot of surprise for her, a lot..."

"That is gonna backfire in some way, I can already see it."

"I want to drag it out of her, kicking and screaming. Right now, she’s playing a game where she holds all the cards and has absolutely zero personal stakes. She doesn’t care if she loses me. I’m just a toy. A fleeting distraction in an endless lifespan. But if I can fracture that perfectly sterile, emotionless shell... if I can introduce genuine, unpredictable chaos into her carefully maintained algorithm..."

I corrected, my tone dropping into a deadly serious register.

"She will break; a mind that has not processed genuine fear or affection in three thousand years will not be able to handle the sudden reintroduction of that psychological weight. She will panic. She will make mistakes."

Luna finished, her tail giving a slow, satisfied swish.

"And then, we win."

We turned a corner, the corridor opening up into a massive, sloping ramp of polished obsidian that seemed to spiral endlessly downward into the glowing depths of the palace. I stopped at the edge, resting my hands on the smooth, cold stone of the railing, looking down at the intricate, pulsing veins of mana running through the floor.

"We need to play her game, but we need to play it better than she does. I’ll give her exactly what she wants to see. I’ll play the lost puppy. I’ll act completely mesmerised by her power and her beauty. I’ll let her think she’s successfully reeling me in, feeding her that sense of absolute control she craves."

I said, my eyes tracking the faint, shifting currents of energy.

"And also enjoy her body at the same time too. I know how you think, you needy man."

Luna asked, sitting down heavily beside me, her shoulder pressing firmly against my leg.

"Yeah, can’t deny that. To get me, she will willingly play with some of my desires, not knowing that I will be conditioning her. I will introduce her to a level of stuff she doesn’t even know."

I grinned, resting my hand on her broad, silver head, scratching the thick fur behind her ears.

Luna leaned her weight entirely against me, a deep, rumbling purr vibrating through her massive chest; the system had also sold me her inner, hidden desires she herself doesn’t know, too.

"I don’t like seeing that or knowing about it."

"I know, but you can’t lie; you won’t enjoy seeing her face crack."

I laughed, looking down at her.

The silence settled over us again. It wasn’t the heavy, oppressive silence of the deep ocean, nor was it the sterile, manufactured quiet of the Sunken Throne. It was the comfortable, unshakable quiet of two predators who entirely understood each other.

I looked at the silver wolf. She possessed enough raw, apocalyptic power to swallow this entire palace whole, tearing through the pearl archways and dark crystal as if it were spun sugar. Yet here she was, resting against my leg, entirely content to follow my lead in a psychological war against a divine kraken.

Krave had spent her entire existence isolating herself. She had cut away her own heart, traded her capacity to love for the ability to rule, just to survive the dark.

She didn’t understand what real loyalty looked like.

She didn’t understand that true strength wasn’t sitting alone on an empty throne, manipulating ghosts and terrorising subordinates. It was having someone entirely capable of destroying you, who actively chose to walk beside you instead.

I thought, a cold, confident smile forming on my face.

"Come on,"

I said, pushing off the obsidian railing and adjusting the heavy fabric of my coat.

"Let’s keep moving. I want to see just how deep this empty cage really goes before we start breaking the place."
