Ye Shikai and Chen Yuxin advanced into the institute, encountering and defeating squads of guards. They were eventually lured into a corridor that sealed shut behind them, trapping them in a room with automated gun turrets. Chen Yuxin rallied the Chen family members to form defensive arrays while Ye Shikai used explosives and his supreme divine weapons to break through the traps and the sealed doors, though some casualties were sustained.

"Director Jin, something feels off here." Jing Xie suddenly felt a foreboding sense of unease. It was extremely quiet here, as they walked down a long corridor, they didn’t encounter any sealed iron doors or the sweeping fire of heavy machine guns. Instead, they directly arrived at an "abandoned" research institute. It seemed to have been deserted for a long time, with many large wooden boxes stacked around. The tables were covered in rust, and the air was filled with a musty and rusty smell which made one feel nauseous.

"Go check if there’s anyone nearby." Director Jin commanded, the GAJ members spread out. They were all professional operatives, caution and vigilance being their true traits, especially in an unfamiliar environment like this.

"Director Jin, look over here, there’s a lift." Shen Wu discovered a large lift in the corner. This was not an ordinary elevator but one used for transporting goods, hence it was large enough to carry plenty of things.

"Does it still work?" Jin Li questioned. Shen Wu blew off a thick layer of dust from the control panel, indicating it hadn’t been used in a long time.

"No, it’s not powered."

"Search around for another passage. Since this is a way through, I refuse to believe it’s a dead end." Jin Li stated firmly.

"Yes."

Jing Xie walked over to the pile of wooden boxes and touched them.

"Strange, if this place was abandoned long ago, why are these boxes so new? They show no signs of mildew, the wood has not decayed at all." Jing Xie sharply noticed the irregularity; these boxes were clearly placed here recently.

"Director Jin, these boxes are odd, their appearance is very fresh, they should’ve been placed here recently." Jing Xie called over Jin Li, pointing out the dozens of large wooden boxes stacked there.

"Let me open them and see." Phoenix suggested, intending to pry open the box to see what’s inside.

"Wait." Jin Li suddenly said, slowly raising his head, his gaze fixing on a surveillance camera in the corner, a faint red light glowing from it...

"Someone’s watching us, everyone, leave this place immediately." Jin Li called out loudly.

Suddenly, a crackling sound of electric sparks was heard nearby. The group turned around; the old wiring had sparked due to sudden power, and the overhead lights flickered on, the intense incandescent light illuminating the entire abandoned warehouse.

Bang.

"Director Jin, this is bad, the doors behind us are all blocked." A GAJ member hurriedly ran over, realizing they had fallen into an ambush.

"Looks like a bloody battle is unavoidable, everyone gather around, stay alert." Jin Li reminded them.

"Yes."

Rumble.

At this moment, the nearby lift suddenly became powered and started operating. The lights on the control panel lit up, and with a loud noise, the lift, once activated, began to descend slowly...

Roar.

The lift doors slowly opened, and from inside, more than a dozen mutants charged out, their eyes blazing with blood red. Although they could not speak, even a fool could see the hostility within them.

Twenty GAJ members charged forward with guns, spraying bullets at the mutants. Their ammunition was armor-piercing, sufficient to penetrate the mutant’s shell at such a close range.

"Director Jin, look!" Shen Wu shouted loudly. The large wooden boxes suddenly burst open, and over twenty mutants crawled out.

"So, these boxes are filled with mutants."

In a moment, more than forty mutants had gathered in this abandoned warehouse, facing off against the GAJ members.

The group entered a research lab where many researchers were dressed in white. Seeing them break in, the researchers had already crouched on the ground, hands over their heads.

"Speak, what is done here?" Ye Shikai questioned.

"This is just a research lab."

Ye Shikai carefully examined the surroundings, noticing quite a few labs resembling cages, with many people locked inside, including men, women, old, and young.

"Are these also part of the mutant project?"

"Yes... yes."

"This is inhuman." Ye Shikai cursed, but now was not the time to condemn these people.

"Hurry, release them all." Ye Shikai ordered.

"Yes."

The group opened the cages, releasing the people inside. However, they looked weak, with pale faces, as if suffering from long-term malnutrition, entirely unlike the "robust" appearance of mutants.

"They are all test subjects. Such experiments are not always successful, many frail ones might die first," Chen Yuxin said.

"Is there an antidote?" Ye Shikai dragged the researchers up, questioning coldly.

"No, this agent is irreversible."

Ye Shikai fell into a dilemma. What should be done with these subjects who had already been injected with the agent? With no antidote, they had only two paths: either die from weakness or become half-human, half-beast monsters.

"Kai, what do we do next?" Chen Yuxin asked.

"Is there really no way to reverse it?"

"Sigh, send a few people to take them all to the hall, Wuyan is there, hopefully she has some solutions," Ye Shikai said helplessly. This was the terrifying aspect of the HST project. Except for De, who was still imprisoned in the GAJ jail, he hadn’t seen any mutants able to switch between human and mutated forms. But De himself had said he was a failed product of the HST project. Although he could switch freely between human and half-beast states, he had to rely on drugs to survive. Without them, he would surely die, and no one could save him.
