Outside the hotel.
Simon was supporting Mo Zhizi, cradling her head as he guided her into the car.
Suddenly, an arm snaked out, grabbing Mo Zhizi’s own arm, and a deep, commanding voice boomed, "Don't go!"
Mo Zhizi’s body went rigid, and as she turned, she saw Gu Mocheng’s face there, almost as if by magic.
In a daze, she believed herself to be truly drunk.
Then, with an indifferent expression, she detached Gu Mocheng’s hand, stating, "It has nothing to do with you. Young Master Gu should attend to those who require his attention."
With those words spoken, Mo Zhizi cast a fleeting glance at him before entering the car.
Simon smirked and shut the car door.
Even the imposing dignity of Gu Mocheng seemed wounded; it was the first time his pride had been stomped on by a woman, nearly driving him to laugh in sheer anger.
"Young Master Gu's method of pursuing women is quite distinct."
"Are you intentionally crossing Mo Chen, or do you simply covet Mo Chen's women? First, you set your sights on his woman without success, and now you’ve taken an interest in his cousin?"
As Gu Mocheng spoke, his gaze remained fixed on the car window, as if he could perceive the woman within.
What exactly was transpiring in this fool’s mind? Could it be that he had genuinely developed feelings for Simon?
Simon responded with a laugh that held no anger, "Ruoxin is on the verge of marriage; can't I pursue other women?"
"You cannot! Is Mo Zhizi someone you can pursue? She is the woman I have decided upon!" Gu Mocheng immediately assumed the role of a protective boyfriend, acting as though he had already become Mo Zhizi’s rightful partner.
"To my understanding, Miss Mo has not yet agreed to your advances."
Having conveyed this, Simon also opened his car door and entered.
Gu Mocheng watched the car recede slowly, his expression displeased. He clicked his tongue against the back of his teeth before turning and getting into his own vehicle.
He ignited the engine and pressed down on the accelerator, giving chase.
… Inside the car.
Simon observed the rearview mirror and noted the black Maybach persistently trailing behind, presumably Gu Mocheng's vehicle.
"It appears Young Master Gu is deeply infatuated with you; do you not feel even a little moved?"
Mo Zhizi glanced back, a slight frown creasing her brow. "Do not concern yourself with him."
"Young Master Gu possesses excellent qualities in all aspects; why not grant him an opportunity to pursue you?" Simon inquired.
Mo Zhizi's gaze shifted subtly. "I do not wish to like someone a second time once my affections have already been given."
Simon probed further, "Is Young Master Gu your former boyfriend?"
"No."
"Then how is he someone you once fancied?"
Mo Zhizi let out a scoff. "Is it not ridiculous? He is unaware that I ever liked him; he completely failed to notice my existence back then."
"As a man, my interpretation is that his attention was surely focused on another woman at that time."
Mo Zhizi appeared slightly taken aback. "You are correct; his eyes were entirely captivated by the radiant Qiao Ruoxin."
Qiao Ruoxin?
Upon hearing this name, Simon's brow furrowed with displeasure. This particular young lady was evidently more of a heart-stealer than he had initially imagined.
Silence descended upon the car; no further words were exchanged.
Mo Zhizi, however, broke the quiet with a laugh. "How did you convince yourself to relinquish Qiao Ruoxin?"
Simon pressed his lips together firmly.
Relinquish? He had never entertained the notion of letting go. In fact, his father had already issued a directive to escort Qiao Ruoxin back to the United States to contend for the family inheritance.
Once he brought Qiao Ruoxin back this time, he would afford her absolutely no opportunity to flee again.
His previous oversight, stemming from excessive trust in Jiang Ruolin, had inadvertently provided Qiao Ruoxin with the chance to escape.
"Why the silence? Or perhaps you claim to have let go, but your heart has not truly released its hold?" Mo Zhizi could not resist asking.
Simon chuckled. "No, time erodes all things; it’s as simple as that."
