Celeste learns from Ethan that Danielle believes she is pregnant. While Ethan expresses his devotion, Celeste remains hesitant about another child. Danielle, however, is excited about a future sibling. After Danielle goes to school, Celeste visits the hospital for a checkup and sees the developing baby, ultimately resolving to keep the child.

But what was she going to do about things between her and Ethan Barnes?

On this point, she still hadn’t figured it out.

…

Ethan went home early. He’d been on edge all day, thinking about Celeste Linden.

Her words from last night kept echoing in his ears. She’d said, I don’t want this child!

He was afraid she’d really go get rid of the baby. After all, right now he had no reason to ask her to stay, to bear his child.

Ethan got home. “Celeste!”

The house was empty, no response at all, only his own voice echoing back.

Where had she gone?

“Celeste! Celeste Linden!” He searched every corner of the house but couldn’t find her.

Ethan’s heart instantly leapt into his throat. He rushed out to look for Celeste, pulling out his phone to call her.

But all he got was the cold mechanical female voice: Sorry, the number you have dialed has been switched off.

Where on earth had she gone?

Ethan was afraid something might happen to her. Even though it was pretty safe around here and nothing should happen, he knew what he feared most was still that she’d abort the baby.

“Boss.” Someone walked over just then. “Are you looking for the missus?”

“Yeah. Have you seen her?”

“We did. The missus went to the hospital.”

The hospital?

The word made Ethan’s pupils contract.

“Yes, Boss. This morning the missus went into the hospital looking really pale. She seemed… not very happy, weighed down with something. Her hand was on her lower belly, like she’d made some huge decision… Hey, Boss!”

Ethan was already running.

…

Ethan burst into the hospital and grabbed a doctor by the collar. “Where’s my wife? Where is she right now?”

“Talk properly, let me go first. She… she went into the operating room. She’s currently undergoing… an abortion.”

What?

Ethan’s face went dark as iron. “You’re saying she’s getting rid of the baby?”

“Yes. Here is the abortion consent form she personally signed. She told us herself she doesn’t want this child, she hates this child, she wants to get rid of it, and the sooner the better. She can’t wait even one more second.”

Ethan took the abortion consent form and looked down, seeing her own handwriting, the three bold characters of Celeste Linden.

Her neat, elegant script—there was no mistaking it.

She really meant to abort this child.

Ethan took long strides toward the operating room and with a loud “bang” kicked the door open.

The doctors and nurses in white coats inside jumped in fright, staring at him in terror. “Sir, this is an operating room. We’re in the middle of an abortion. You can’t come in here, please leave immediately!”

Ethan walked to Celeste Linden’s side. She was lying on the operating table, eyes tightly shut, unconscious.

“Has the baby been taken?” he asked, eyes bloodshot.

“Not yet. We were just about to begin the procedure.”

Ethan kicked the operating table aside. Bottles, jars, scalpels, and clamps all crashed to the floor in a mess. He glared at them, eyes red, and enunciated each word, “Then you should be glad you haven’t started yet. If anything happens to my child, you can all be buried with it.”

With that, Ethan shrugged off his black overcoat and wrapped it around Celeste, then lifted her up in his arms and carried her out of the hospital.

As soon as the man left, the doctors in white coats let out a long breath. Just then, someone walked in on high heels.

“Miss White, we’ve done exactly as you instructed.”
