Celeste Linden tells Ethan Barnes she doesn't want their child, causing him distress. Despite his pleas, she insists he has no right to voice an opinion. Later, Celeste reflects on her desire for a family and her conflicting feelings about the pregnancy. The next morning, she witnesses a touching scene of Ethan bonding with their daughter Danielle as he attempts to cook breakfast, with Danielle excitedly anticipating the arrival of a baby brother.

Danielle has always wanted a little brother, and now she was over the moon, wishing her brother could be born soon so he could play with her.

Celeste lightly patted Danielle’s head. “Danielle, who told you Mommy has a little brother in her tummy?”

“Daddy did, Daddy told me~”

Celeste looked over at Ethan Barnes. Ethan turned off the stove, walked over, and wrapped an arm around her waist. “Celeste, Danielle’s been seeing you not feeling well lately and has been really worried about you, so I told her you were pregnant.”

“Is that so? I think you’re just trying to use Danielle.” Celeste saw right through his little scheme.

Ethan’s thin lips lifted in a faint smile, and then his big hand settled on her lower belly, gently rubbing. “Celeste, don’t hurt this baby. As long as you don’t get rid of him, I’ll do anything you want. Even if you want me dead, I’ll give you my life.”

Celeste quickly knocked his hand away. “Who wants your life?”

“Celeste, you can’t bear to lose me, can you?”

“Who can’t bear to lose you? Don’t flatter yourself.”

Ethan reached out and pulled her into his arms, burying his face in her silky hair, laughing happily.

“Let go of me!” Celeste tried to break free of him.

Seeing Daddy and Mommy being so loving, Danielle smiled sweetly too. She even brought over her treasured toys. “Mommy, these are all my favorite toys. When my little brother is born, I’ll give all my favorite toys to him. I’ll protect him.”

Celeste couldn’t help but laugh. Danielle was so little, yet she already knew to protect her little brother.

Although Danielle was a girl, her personality was very much like Ethan’s—independent and brave from a young age, unflinching in the face of danger. Maybe one day she’d prove that girls were every bit as good as boys.

“Danielle, you don’t need to protect anyone. You’re Mommy’s daughter. Mommy will protect you both.” Celeste stroked Danielle’s head with tender affection.

Just then Ethan’s men came over; he couldn’t stay by her side all day. “Celeste, I have to head out. You stay home and don’t run around.”

Ethan reminded her, clearly uneasy.

Celeste ignored him.

Ethan forced a kiss onto her cheek, then left.

Celeste took Danielle to school. On the way, Danielle tilted her little face up to look at Mommy. “Mommy, are you unhappy about having my little brother?”

Danielle had already sensitively picked up on Mommy’s odd mood.

Celeste immediately forced a small smile. “No, Danielle. Mommy just… just isn’t mentally prepared yet. Mommy thought she would only ever have you, and hadn’t planned on being a mom again.”

“But little brother is already here. It’s okay if Mommy isn’t ready. Daddy and I will take good care of him. Later we can all protect Mommy~”

Celeste crouched down and pulled Danielle into her arms.

…

After Danielle went to school, Celeste went to the hospital alone to have a checkup and see how the baby was developing.

The doctor had her get an ultrasound. She lay there while the doctor moved the probe around her belly. “You’re already 49 days pregnant. The baby is developing very well. The tiny fetal bud already has a heartbeat. Go home and rest well, take good care of the pregnancy, and come back for your regular checkups.”

Celeste looked at that tiny fetal bud, her long lashes trembling slightly. She realized she really couldn’t bear to part with this baby.

No matter what had happened between her and Ethan, at this moment she made up her mind: she couldn’t give up this child; she wanted this baby.

She was going to bring this child into the world.
