After Mo Yan returns the wedding dress, the shop assistant criticizes her for ruining it, claiming it smells and is dirty. Mo Yan tries to explain, but the assistant continues to insult her, doubting she can afford any repairs.

Before Mo Yan could utter a word, the saleswoman snatched the calculator and began punching numbers. “The dry cleaning fee is 3,000 yuan, the compensation for the wedding dress is 5,000 yuan, and the rental is 2,000 yuan. That makes a total of 10,000 yuan. Please pay up.”

With that, a bill was presented to Mo Yan.

The original price of this wedding dress was less than 10,000 yuan, yet the saleswoman was demanding she pay 10,000 yuan? This was outright extortion!

Mo Yan clenched her teeth and protested, “How can that be right? This wedding dress isn’t even damaged. Why should I pay 10,000 yuan? I refuse!”

“Fine, so you’re refusing to pay. I’ll call the police to have you arrested right now!” The sales assistant scoffed dismissively, grabbing her phone to make the call.

“Who are you planning on calling the police to arrest?”

Suddenly, a figure entered from the doorway. Mo Yan turned and saw that it was Luo Tao.

Luo Tao strode towards them. Upon noticing Mo Yan’s tear-reddened eyes, his brow furrowed instantly. He turned a cold gaze to the saleswoman and demanded, “Demanding exorbitant prices and even threatening customers – is this how you conduct business?”

Seeing Luo Tao, the saleswoman’s demeanor somewhat calmed. However, she still cast a disdainful sidelong glance at the pair. “You two are biting off more than you can chew,” she sneered. “You can’t even afford a wedding dress for your own ceremony. You’re just delusional, poor wretches!”

The saleswoman’s sharp voice immediately drew the attention of those nearby, prompting whispers and gossip.

Both Mo Yan and Luo Tao were taken aback. Luo Tao had never been called poor before. Mo Yan’s face darkened, and she rebuked, “What utter nonsense are you spouting! How dare you speak about our marriage matters like that?”

Though Mo Yan typically possessed a gentle nature and was not one for arguments, she would fiercely defend anyone she cared about when they were treated unfairly. In this moment, Luo Tao, whom she had known for merely a day, became someone she felt compelled to protect.

Observing Mo Yan’s sudden spirited defense, a flicker of interest appeared in Luo Tao’s eyes. Mo Yan continued, her voice gaining strength, “So what if we’re poor? Are we stealing your food? Even if we’re poor, we still have our integrity. We don’t look down on others like you! Even if we’re poor now, it’s just temporary. In the future, we’ll be wealthy. But you, your heart will remain black forever!”

Speaking with newfound boldness, Mo Yan took another step forward, instinctively positioning herself in front of Luo Tao. She continued to raise her voice, reprimanding, “You treated me so nicely when I first came to rent the dress. But now, you’re inventing reasons to charge me more when I want to return it? Doesn’t your conscience bother you? How much is this wedding dress even worth? You want me to pay 10,000 yuan? Aren’t you ashamed of extorting money I worked for? Moreover, if you expect me to pay such a high price, you need to provide a justifiable reason!”

Mo Yan’s relentless barrage left the saleswoman gaping, utterly speechless. The commotion also alerted another manager within the store. A man wearing glasses emerged, frowning as he inquired, “Who is causing trouble here?”

Luo Tao stepped forward and gently embraced Mo Yan, who was trembling slightly with anger. He expressionlessly produced a card and handed it to the male manager. “We will pay what is due,” he stated coldly, “but…”

He paused, his gaze chillingly fixed on the female employee, who, with a roll of her eyes, still appeared unconvinced.

Seeing Luo Tao present a card, the female employee sneered, “Trying to play rich when you’ve got no money? You’re truly laughable.”

“Given the caliber of this shop,” Luo Tao countered, raising an eyebrow as he surveyed the surroundings, “I don’t need to pretend to be rich.”

He gestured towards a glass display case at the shop’s entrance, where the shop’s signature wedding dress was prominently showcased. He lowered his head and asked Mo Yan, “How about that one? Do you like it?”

Mo Yan followed his finger to a classic design wedding dress. What caught her eye was a special diamond embedded near the hem, which perfectly complemented the simple, elegant design, exuding an air of generosity and nobility.

It was indeed a beautiful dress, but Mo Yan couldn't fathom Luo Tao's intention. Hesitantly, she asked, “Huh?”

“Perfect,” Luo Tao declared. Turning his head, he instructed casually, “If your service attitude improves, I’ll buy it.”

“Buy it? Do you even know the price of that wedding dress? It’s a designer piece, costing 58,000!” The saleswoman scoffed, rolling her eyes again, fully convinced the pair couldn't afford it and thus dismissing them.

However, the male manager beside her seemed visibly excited. He had noticed when Luo Tao produced his card earlier that it was no ordinary bank card.

The saleswoman failed to identify the card's significance, but he recognized it instantly. This was no ordinary piece of plastic; it represented the pinnacle of wealth – a black card! Upon entering the card number for a second time, he definitively ascertained the owner's identity. It was confirmed: Luo Tao was an individual far beyond their capacity to offend!
