Stella turned to Valeria and asked.
"Which ship belongs to the Red Skins?"
Valeria gave Stella a hard look before she just turned around and pointed at a ship in the distance. It was a beautiful ship with the image of a skull painted on its side. Although it wasn’t the largest ship in the dock, it didn’t look like it would lose out to any other ship in terms of speed or durability! It was perfect!
"Why do you want to know about the ship? Is Jason planning to steal it? If he’s planning something like that, then we have to make sure we take care of all the Red Skins first. It’s not a good idea to have mercenaries chasing you down after you steal from them."
Valeria had experienced many manhunts in the past, and a lot of times, it involved a mercenary hunting someone for stealing something from them. Mercenaries were very vindictive people! Stella was about to say something in response, but another voice cut her off from behind.
"You don’t need to worry about that."
"!"
Both Stella and Valeria almost jumped out of their skin as they heard this voice, and they turned around to see Jason walking out of the shadows calmly! Valeria had already put her hand over her sword, but once she saw that it was Jason, she relaxed and put her hand over her face while letting out a hard breath! Jason was going to kill her with a heart attack one of these days!
"Master, welcome back. Did things go well?"
Jason hummed at Stella and gestured towards the wall as ten mercenaries walked out of it. All ten of them were subordinates, but unless you looked very closely, you would never be able to tell that they weren’t real! Valeria looked up at the imposing figure of Malovena, and she almost scoffed when she saw the state that proud woman had been reduced to! Malovena used to be a thorn in Valeria’s side, but now Malovena was nothing more than another one of Jason’s servants!
"Your power is really terrifying... how are we going to take the ship?"
Valeria said the first part to Jason while shaking her head, but then she turned to look at the ship in the distance while saying the second part. But Valeria was surprised when Jason simply moved past her and began walking towards the ship with his subordinates following behind him. Valeria’s eyes widened slightly, but she couldn’t do anything as Jason, Stella, and the ten Red Skins all walked out into the open.
"Dammit. What the hell is he thinking?"
Valeria cursed as she followed after them quickly, and she noticed multiple people looking in their direction.
"Hey, it’s the Red Skins. Who are those people around them?"
"I don’t know. Maybe it’s some more mercenaries they picked for a job?"
"Do you think they’re hiring? Maybe I can apply. I’ve been looking for a new group to join."
"No way, they’ll turn you down immediately. Don’t you know the Red Skins only take the best."
"But don’t they look a little strange? It’s like their skin is glowing."
"I don’t know. Maybe it’s some artefact they’re using. Get back to work."
The conversation around the docking station continued as usual, and no one bothered to get close to the Red Skins. As Jason and the Red Skins got to the ship, a large man walked up to them with a scowl on his face, and Malovena reached into a pouch and threw two gold coins at the man. The man took them, nodded, and then left.
That man was one of the underlings of the ganglord that ruled this section of the Pit. Since the Pit was so large, it was governed by various ganglords who had taken over certain sections, and each of them maintained the peace in their own section while extorting any business that opened up in the area! The ganglord in this section always collected a fee from mercenaries who docked, and since Jason didn’t want to cause a scene here, he just told Malovena to pay the fare.
Once everything was settled, they all moved towards the ship. Malovena put in the access code, and the ramp came down and allowed them to climb up into the ship. The inside of the ship was even more futuristic than the outside. It was spacious and clean, with metallic walls filled with lights and machines that had various readings on them. There was a pathway that led to some stairs, and once Jason and the others entered the ship, Jason heard someone coming down the stairs. Jason immediately asked Malovena who was on the ship, and Malovena explained.
’The one coming towards us now is Ruduls, the ship’s cleaner and servant. I kidnapped him from a world called Vuna a decade ago to sell to a researcher. But the researcher died before the sale could go through, so I turned him into our cleaner instead. He is harmless. The other person is one of my right-hand men, Fang. He is a psychopath, so we usually leave him on the ship so he doesn’t cause problems during missions. It’s best to kill him before he finds out what happens.’
The footsteps came even closer until a short, bald man appeared from the stairs with his head bowed. The man looked human, but his mannerism and personality immediately reminded Jason of a scared rabbit!
"M-Madam Malovena. I-I’ve finished cleaning the..."
Ruduls trailed off as he looked up and finally got a good look at all the people in the ship. Ruduls took a step back in surprise when he noticed that there was something very wrong with Malovena and the other Red Skins! The Red Skins suddenly vanished into the shadows as Jason ordered them to go and take care of the psychopath, Fang, and Ruduls spoke up in fear!
"W-What’s going on!?"
Jason raised his hand to his lips and told Ruduls to be quiet, and Ruduls immediately threw both hands up to his mouth and shut up! Jason felt amused by Ruduls’s actions, but Jason spoke in a calm voice.
"Your previous employer is permanently indisposed, so you’re under new management now. You have two options. The first: you try to fight me here, and you get killed immediately. The second option: you walk out of this ship right now and run away. That way, we never have to see each other again. Choose quickly."
Ruduls looked absolutely confused at that moment as he looked from Jason to Valeria and then towards Stella, but Jason’s hands suddenly flashed with a golden fire, and Ruduls jolted as he realised that Jason wasn’t joking! Rudul put his hand up to his head, and he spoke in a terrified voice!
"I-I want to stay and continue working! Please!"
Jason raised a curious brow when he heard this! That wasn’t one of the options he had given the small man. Jason asked Ruduls why he wanted to stay, and Ruduls rubbed his hands together nervously as he answered.
"I-I’ve never been out of the ship before. I was taken when I was very young, and I’ve only lived in here and cleaned the rooms. I won’t survive outside in the Pit. Please don’t let me go. I’ll be a good boy! I’ll clean and never complain! You can even beat me or burn me. I don’t care. Just let me stay."
Jason’s eyes narrowed when he heard Ruduls’s words. Jason could only imagine how Malovena must’ve treated Ruduls for Ruduls to be so ready to accept punishment in exchange for him staying.
